Recommendations for Red Hat OpenShift on any cloud platform or on-prem
Overall Satisfaction with Red Hat OpenShift on IBM Cloud
We created a POC last year using RedHat OpenShift in the IBM CLoud. IBM MQ, IBM App Connect Enterpriser and IBM WAS were all implemented in containers. This was to provide a uniform, consolidated, fully monitored, reliable platform for integrations, messaging and WAS applications. We demonstrated this POC in a company wide Hackathon for IT.
Pros
- Provides monitoring ACE, MQ, WAS
- Provides containerization to faciliate the maximum utilization of resources (cpu, memory, etc.), provides multiple versions of applications running in containers, isolates rogue applications
- eliminates many administrative tasks
- provides high availability
- utilizes storage efficiently
- easy to use, provides a well formatted interface, well documented, easy to install
- provides connectors to current database levels
- easy to configure security and keep track of certificates
- modernizes antiquated architecture
Cons
- AI for creating connectors "on-the-fly" instead of waiting for a new connector to become available
- It was very positive that RedHat OpenShift could run on any cloud platform. Our business objective is to move to the cloud and this software fits every bullet point.
- With OpenShift we can keep our existing applications (over 250) and quickly move them into containers and into the cloud environment with little modifications at all.
I prefer RedHat OpenShift because with kubernetes there are tons more installations and work effort required to get applications ready to run in the containerized environment. RedHat OpenShift is faster and easier to get up and running.

- IBM API Connect
- IBM MQ on Cloud
Using IBM portfolio of products together we are able to create an ESB environment to process 1/2 billion transactions monthly. We other companies I have been up all night handling issues in Production. At CDW because of the reliability and stability of the IBM products we very rarely get calls in the middle of the night. The systems run smoothly and without issues.
