Overall Satisfaction with ScienceLogic SL1

Implementation is now point and click. On-premise deployments take less than a day to standup and begin monitoring of the environment.
ScienceLogic SL1 is used to fulfill many requirements. A list of them would be as follows: Enterprise visibility Monitoring Integrations AIOps Reporting Automation RCA Scope is 360 degrees of visibility across the enterprise.
On-Premise Only

Pros

  • Monitoring of Devices
  • Integrations to 3rd party software

Cons

  • Reporting is robust but not user friendly unless proper training
  • Lacks Network Flow Analytics out of the box
  • MTTR has increased nearly 80% across all functional areas
  • Deployment has been reduced from weeks to 1 day
  • RCA has reduced from 48 hours to 15 minutes
From a monitoring perspective, in my opinion, ScienceLogic SL1 meets if not exceeds in all areas. The two caveats are APM and Network Flow Analytics (NFA) where ScienceLogic SL1 does not have a native capability but does integrate well with the leading APM and NFA providers.

I think ScienceLogic SL1 is well suited for monitoring on-premise, cloud and IoT devices. It provides robust reporting, integration, visualization and automation. In my opinion, it would be benefit from incorporating more network flow and application performance monitoring.

Integrating ScienceLogic SL1

Powerflow and the SyncPacks have made integrations easy.

Change management was a big part of the implementation and was well-handled - Change Management planning was key for the success of the deployment.

ScienceLogic SL1 Reliability

There is no issues with availability or reliability of the platform. Only time we have been down is to perform required OS upgrades.
Everything is quick. We haven't had performance issues even at scale.

Configuring ScienceLogic SL1

We have used the platform for everything from discovery, monitoring, development and enterprise user activity reporting .
Make sure your dev and production environments are distributed.
Yes - we have customized the interface extensively - It was extremely easy to do in the classic UI.
Yes - we have added extensive custom code - Custom development has been extremely easy. We have extended the use of the platform far beyond what we had expected.

Using ScienceLogic SL1

1000 - Service Desk, Leadership, Programs, NOC/SOC
4 - Network Administrator, Linux Administration, Windows Administration, and Python/PHP development skills are highly recommended. The other skills typically sought after are integrations with other applications to include cloud orchestration.
