NetBackup, currently in version 11, is a data protection and recovery platform that provides security, automation, and management tools for cloud and on-premises workloads.

Rubrik is cloud data management and enterprise backup software provided by Palo Alto-based Rubrik, Inc. It is a software platform that provides backup, instant recovery, archival, search, analytics, compliance, and copy data management in one secure fabric across data centers and clouds.
The licensing and scalability were definite factors. We like that Rubrik can grow with buying as many or as little nodes that we need. We also like that not everything has to be stored on brick. It can be tiered off to deep and cheap cloud storage. Overall we like that it …
Rubrik has been the top choice among the ones I've managed over the past 20 years.

Selected Rubrik due to API driven, modern easy to use interface and appliances in a scale out architecture with a secure file system protecting backup data
Well, the software is the same in all. But what Rubrik offers is way better and different from these products. There are a lot of options and capability features which are offered by Rubrik such as Live recovery which we have implemented recently on a NAS share and it has …
Veritas NetBackup has been the main backup technology in our company for over 10 years. However Rubrik is better adapted to new technologies such as hybrid clouds, native cloud protection or noSQL databases. Also the operational cost of managing Rubrik is far less than NetBackup …
We have changed from NetBackup appliances to Rubrik. The admin GUI and backup/ restore process is much simpler on Rubrik than on NetBackup. Live mount of VM's are a lot simpler to use on Rubrik, even if it works fine on NetBackup also. The possibility to do complex query based …
Rubrik is much simpler and way more powerful. The archive to the cloud again trumps our old legacy product.

Both offer highly flexible solutions. Rubrik offers simplicity and stability. No solution is a set and forget but Rubrik is as close as you can ask for.
While it doesn't provide all of the platform support as some of the legacy products, Rubrik has taken something typically complex and sometimes painful to manage and simplified it. Most of the products we have used lack in agility and bringing newer features to market.

I have used (since I'm a datacenter consultant) many softwares--Veritas NetBackup, Comvault, Veep, HYCU, ArchServ, and Nakivo. But I think Rubrik is the best overall package.
Only one of the other options evaluated made data protection easier and supported the majority of things running in our environment in that one platform and that was Cohesity. We finally chose Rubrik over Cohesity because of the other customers reviews as well as the company …
Rubrik provides a unified backup/restore appliance with the ability to backup to a cloud solution that is reliable, easy to deploy and use, and easy to automate.

For ROI and ease of use much better.
Druva was simple as no on-prem appliance but very cost prohibitive due to being all cloud hosted.
Data Domain had strong points, but needed a lot of hardware and software components to get everything we needed. It also could not backup AHV/NetB…
Rubrik's API was more full-featured than Veeam's and CommVault's, and it doesn't require us to maintain a fleet of Windows servers (with patching and all that) to support the infrastructure. CommVault and Bacula Enterprise just didn't have the user interface and polish that we …
Veritas NetBackup is well suited for most backups within an organisation. This is from standard filesystem backups to full integrated SQL, Oracle and SAP HANA databases and their associated applications. Where it lacks is point in time recovery, i.e., backups are taken at a specific time and then backed up to either disk or tape, but other backup products allow incremental forever backups that, from the golden copy, allow point in time recovery down to an hour or even a minute. So if that level of granularity is required, then Veritas NetBackup may not be the best product to use.
Rubrik is still a relatively new product when compared to other solutions which tackle total data protection. The feature set is quite broad but still needs some refinements. Most of the User Interface is quite straightforward and easy, but some areas are a bit lacking in a description of what the option is used for, or the option is missing. While making the user experience easy, many tunables aren’t present and require a Support Tunnel to be open for a Support person to make a change in the customer’s environment. Seems the first question Support always asks is if you can open a tunnel for them to remote in. Then you’re not able to monitor exactly what they’re doing.
Automated test restores. I would love to setup automated and random test restores on a regular basis where Rubrik's system will restore a random file or directory to a test SharePoint folder, send a full report, and provide a path to the folder for review and confirmation.
Veritas continues to keep up with the backup game. There virtual machine backup capabilities are now top notch, and I believe they will prove valuable when our cloud presence demands a backup solution.
The support has been incredible. Any time we have had a question, it has always been answered within 24hrs. Also, the team is always will to hop on a Zoom call to help walk us through the dashboard and troubleshoot any issues we are having. Also, having the peace of mind that our data is protected should anything happen in our system.
There is a slight learning curve depending on what you wish to back up. However, as a whole it is fairly easy to use. The reporting of backups gives peace of mind to ensure data is protected. The GUI is intuitive and easy to find the correct areas you need to perform various functions. Recovery is also done via a GUI that is extremely easy to use and select the backup you wish to recover.
The support is top notch both tech and sales team, the tools are simple to use and yet still is feature rich. Security is top of the list, the product is sold and reliable, easy to configure and intuitive to use.
Rubrik's brik is designed with redundancy in mind, ensuring that if one node experiences issues, others can continue to provide backup and recovery services.
Support is pretty good but it is split between America and outsourced companies so it is hit or miss sometimes. I have actually had to argue with the outsourced support as they sometimes have no practical experience using the software which makes troubleshooting difficult when they have no practical experience using the system.
Rubrik support has been pretty good. There have been a few issues with new releases we have experienced and are still considering if we want to make the jump to version nine. There are a few things we are concerned about which are giving us pause. That being said, support is working hard to answer our questions.
Easy to follow and very thorough. Trainer was knowledgeable and helpful answering any questions and providing detailed answers where possible. It's also nice to gain another badge :) There is also the Rubrik University online tutorials to refer back to and keep updated with new innovations. I would say the exam was very hard.
From experience the implementation was smooth and easy, like a simple plug and play format but would need coordination from your network team to be able to see the entire IT infrastructure.
CrashPlan has the capability to sync data with a cloud storage source. This is great for a workstation where data is typically only for one user. However, Netbackup does a much better job for maintaining multiple levels of file restores for Enterprise Servers. Netbackup has a superior management console that does not rely on Cloud services in the event of an internet outage.
Having all our backups under one umbrella made product management easier, with not need to manage myltip contracts.
The additional analysis of the data after the fact gave insights into our user data, without the need for an addition product, or the impact on live data sets.
Veritas NetBackup is very expensive, and I think price is the main reason which some customers don't want to use this solution. The price is fair. Most people have felt this solution was somewhat expensive. licensing model is based on the number of NetBackup clients, agents, servers, and options that NetBackup will be protecting or run on. A customer purchases the same number of licenses as the count of clients, agents, servers, and options.
We are fine with the 1 year or 3 year support options that Rubrik has had. The support for the on-prem hardware has been great too. We've had them for quite a while (4+ years) and no end of support yet.
Education, Consulting and Managed services to keep our business running smooth. They provide the expertise needed to help you bridge the gap between excellent information management solutions and the information essential to help you reach maximum business value. They Meet information management goals with agility and flexibility.
We never experienced a significant system or data loss during the time we used NetBackup. We restored individuals files and small databases based upon user mistakes, but we never had to implement a DR plan. From that aspect, it is difficult to evaluate the ROI. Backups are a commodity service. Features are very similar across multiple tools. Once you decide to stay on-prem or move to the cloud, the list of options are narrowed. Then it becomes a matter of price.
From an administration and support perspective, the ROI is low. Vendor technical support is not always responsive. The first two tiers of support are not knowledgeable and their typical recommendation is to read the white paper. My small team spent a lot of time troubleshooting NetBackup, often without much vendor help.
