Conga Composer

There are so many opportunities to use Conga, and that's what I love about it. We use it for a few of our documents, but now I've become aware of how many more of our processes we can move from manual entry to automative processes. It's probably well suited for organizations that use word documents, write ups, and other items- probably wouldn't be well suited for organizations just needing to see the numbers

PandaDoc

Very easy to set up and fill contract templates with the dynamic fields. Easy to manage from a legal or business controller standpoint, and easy to use for the sales/legal/HR teams. The built-in theme editor makes it possible to design great templates by our design team. All in all a great solution for us. We're currently considering to move to the Enterprise offering to get more workspaces and then onboard our HR department.

Pros

Conga Composer

  • We use Conga primarily for document generation.
  • An example is Generation of Proposals
  • Another example is generation of quotes
  • We have also used Conga to generate invoices
  • At times we have used Conga to generate formal documents for Govt purposes. Essentially any type of document that is based on Salesforce data is a good use case for Conga.

PandaDoc

  • PandaDoc has a user-friendly option for online quote acceptance. It takes the paperwork out of getting sign-off from busy CEO's!
  • PandaDoc notifies my entire team when a quote is accepted, in -real-time, which lets them get to work wherever they are in the world.

Cons

Conga Composer

  • While it is a much easier experience than using code to arrive at a document solution, it can still get VERY technical. Beyond the click and drag style of document that you see in the demonstrations.
  • When it goes wrong, finding out WHERE it has gone wrong can be maddening. There is a lot of support out there but that sometimes translates to a vast amount of options to investigate when troubleshooting.

PandaDoc

  • The file management system is quite clunky. Proposals go into the root directory by default and we often find ourselves having to do a major cleanup of proposals into folders after-the-fact. Would be nice if folder selection could have a default defined for each user.
  • Lack of proper two-way data sync from Salesforce is a bit of a pain. In order to push data back into Salesforce when it's changed in a proposal, you have to set up a Zapier integration which isn't ideal.
  • PandaDoc's proposal structure isn't well-suited to multi-year proposals. We often have to create proposals with static tables instead of summary fields in order to provide pricing on a per-year basis. This is annoying and error-prone, but necessary until they enable us to create pricing table sections.
  • If you accidentally drag a module into the proposal, you have to manually delete every component in the erroneous section one-by-one. This is a HUGE pain, especially if you accidentally drag a multi-page appendix into your proposal by accident. This will almost assuredly happen at some point.

It's a big part of what we do internally, so would renew as it saves us time and is part of our process. In order to switch we'd need a good price break with same functions available

They are quick at fixing any problems that we have had which mainly came about when we were setting up the system ready to use. They also ran through some training with the team at no additional charge and we now have a team member responsible for passing that knowledge on.

Alternatives Considered

Conga Composer

We chose Conga due to the price point (cost for licenses). It was among the more affordable options but we did not have to sacrifice quality. In addition, the integration with Salesforce is key for us. We are able to connect student interactions and actions with our mailings. We also like how it is user friendly

PandaDoc

I have used DocuSign and HelloSign. I felt that they were too basic and even harder to set up new documents with. The formatting tools in PandaDoc are a bit clunky, but I got used to them after a few months, and am okay sacrificing a bit of usability for the versatility of the fields and tokens I can use in PandaDoc.I am sticking with PandaDoc mainly because of the templates and product catalog features. I haven't done an extensive review of other options, but these two features have saved us thousands of hours at this point, and PandaDoc's downsides are vastly outweighed by the benefits I get from it.

Return on Investment

Conga Composer

  • It provided a consistent quote template...everyone's quotes looked like we wanted them to.
  • It protected data integrity by controlling the output formats (i.e. PDF vs. Word).
  • It worked seamlessly behind the scenes making it easy for the team to be self sufficient generating documents.
