FormAssembly
FormAssembly is an excellent tool for creating personalized web forms that integrate with Salesforce. It is a very powerful tool and although it is user-friendly, there is a learning curve. It would be less suited for very simple forms that do not integrate with other systems, as there are probably simpler tools available for that purpose.

SurveyMonkey is best suited for you if you find that you are creating multiple survey regularly. It offers a variety of questions and options and is a well-rounded surveying tool. It is not best if you do not create surveys often, typically use the same survey, or looking for software to create quizzes or assessments. Also, if you are easily overwhelmed by too many options, this may not be the tool for you.

Pros
FormAssembly
  • SalesForce integration is really nice. You can map to specific fields with form values, or you can use detailed formulas. You can also choose to bypass assignment rules on a per-form basis, and create customized logic for when cases are created, when leads are created/merged, etc. It's very robust.
  • Form creation in general is very simple. They've gotten good over the years of creating an intuitive, drag and drop interface that's quick to edit. I like that you can also assign values to fields so conditional form building gets easy.
  • I like that you can customize how responses are viewed in the response window. Choose what columns show up so you can find records with ease, and with just one glance. OR you can download everything to excel in a snap too.

  • SurveyMonkey templates have made it very user-friendly. It is very efficient to create a survey.
  • I love that they have multiple ways to answer questions. For example, short answer, paragraph, and radio buttons to name a few.
  • The surveys are very easy to share. You can import a large list of email addresses or free type just a few.
  • I like that you can test the survey before sending it out live. I send it to myself to verify how it will look and feel to the end-user.

Cons
FormAssembly
  • It may not be Salesforce Lightning Experience compatible - at least for us - in terms of linking to Lightning Experience Notes
  • Saving a form edit can be confusing depending on where in the form the edit is made
  • It would be nice to add a background image so that the desktop browser doesn't have so much white-space around the form.

  • Recognizing that there are more limitations when it comes to a mobile interface vs. a desktop interface, I would love to see more profound levels of programming functionality on the mobile side.
  • It would be helpful to have better access to greater levels of third-party results analysis, particularly as it relates to open-ended questions and answers.
  • As an admin, it would be very cool if SurveyMonkey were able to use AI to match the survey we're building (questions, topics, target respondents, etc.) to existing results that might negate the need to ask certain questions in our surveys.

One major point for us is our migration to a completely Microsoft infrastructure. IN addition to that, the afore mentioned need to ingest external data resources means that we do have our eyes open toward the landscape so that we can fill these needs. This in no way indicates a move away from FormAssembly: their support is first rate, and so far the product has always stood up to the tests we've put it through.

Compared to other competitors in the market (including a few I've used internally), if you're looking for a survey application, this one does the job and it's quite inexpensive too. Considering the fact that it comes with a handy mobile application too (on iOS and Android), you also get flexibility thrown in the deal too.

It does everything a survey software should do, and it does it very well. I can't speak for how well it would work for a business that was surveying tens of thousands of people - but for a small business of 50 employees with a couple of thousand clients, it does everything it needs to do.

still to many limitations for more complex surveys --skips, filtered questions, etc.

While it's not a true development package and misses some features like ingestion of external data for lists, etc... the product is fast, stable, easy to use, and will suit the needs of anyone needing online form functionality with SalesForce and other connectors available for your marketing needs.

I've never had to contact the SurveyMonkey customer care team directly, but they have a pretty good library of help articles on their website. Everything from designing and executing your survey to account and billing questions. I never had a need for further support from Survey Monkey.

FormAssembly
When we were researching options 2 years ago, FormAssembly beat other form tools hands down based on Salesforce integration features. The ability to declaratively set up prefill and post-submission data connectors supporting complex hierarchical data relationships was huge there. We also valued the ability to authenticate Salesforce users on the form. This allowed us to ensure that only authorized individuals could make updates to their records (and not other people's records) via the form. Since we embed it so heavily into Salesforce, we often compare FormAssembly to Salesforce's native Visualforce and Lightning Component frameworks when deciding how to fulfill a data capture requirement. Unless something very custom is called for, we very often choose FormAssembly first for the flexibility it gives us to build and iterate in the early phases of a new program.

SurveyMonkey is easier to customize and provides much more in depth analytics. SurveyMonkey also provides better templates providing us with a better presentation to our employees. SurveyMonkey also comes with a more trustworthy platform that ensures confidentiality, which is incredibly important to our employees and means we're getting more reliable results from the surveys.

  • We use this to survey vendors after a trade show and their comments to me have helped improve other shows. I don't have hard numbers but I know our vendors, some of whom are associate members, are very happy to give this feedback because it helps their ROI too.
  • I know it has saved us employee time as we aren't sifting through email responses and entering them into a spreadsheet. SurveyMonkey does that for us.
  • We often need to do quick polls to our members to make decisions. This makes them feel like they are getting value for their membership dues that they pay our association.
