    SurveyMonkey really excels in the survey design aspect of the surveying process. They have so many different question types that you can use to create your questions. The analytics and reporting are basic but ok for those wanting simple insights into their survey answers. Their free plan should suffice for any business that needs the fundamentals of surveying - i.e. survey builder, sharing, and viewing answers.

    Its strength is in usability testing and testing designs with users. Another key strength of UserTesting is its panel. Combined, it's incredible for getting quick feedback on usability. With that said, many of the panel members are used to taking tests and generally more technologically savvy. I've heard many words like intuitive more in testing now. However, I do think if you're focused on watching how people are using designs and are structuring tasks appropriately, you can still learn a lot from people who are familiar with design testing. With that said, I do not believe UserTesting and any qualitative research should be used solely for validation. It is important to think about sample size and confidence quality. It's not really appropriate for message testing. It also can't present multiple concepts in a randomized order, so I might defer to using a different tool if you're in that stage of design

    Momentive (SurveyMonkey, Inc)

    • SurveyMonkey templates have made it very user-friendly. It is very efficient to create a survey.
    • I love that they have multiple ways to answer questions. For example, short answer, paragraph, and radio buttons to name a few.
    • The surveys are very easy to share. You can import a large list of email addresses or free type just a few.
    • I like that you can test the survey before sending it out live. I send it to myself to verify how it will look and feel to the end-user.

    • Creating interview clips is simple. The video cutting software is easy to use and lightyears ahead of competitors like UserZoom.
    • The pool of participants is large in the US (likely the highest amongst competitors). This makes recruiting for my studies really quick and allows me to go for some segmentation and detail in who I target in my sample.
    • Chat support is responsive and helpful. It's nice to get connected to a customer care agent quickly and they almost always serve you with a solution to the issue.
    • The feature set of User Testing is constantly growing and getting more refined. I appreciate the ability to card sort or launch other types of methods.

    • Recognizing that there are more limitations when it comes to a mobile interface vs. a desktop interface, I would love to see more profound levels of programming functionality on the mobile side.
    • It would be helpful to have better access to greater levels of third-party results analysis, particularly as it relates to open-ended questions and answers.
    • As an admin, it would be very cool if SurveyMonkey were able to use AI to match the survey we're building (questions, topics, target respondents, etc.) to existing results that might negate the need to ask certain questions in our surveys.

    • Comparative tests on mobile devices is a major issue. Users find it very difficult to user test a comparative test where they are asked to compare two experiences.
    • Users sometimes hurry on to complete the tests.
    • Reusing a saved templated is sometimes tricky and qualifying questions are not saved properly.

      Compared to other competitors in the market (including a few I've used internally), if you're looking for a survey application, this one does the job and it's quite inexpensive too. Considering the fact that it comes with a handy mobile application too (on iOS and Android), you also get flexibility thrown in the deal too.

      UserTesting has drastically changed the way we research. We are now conducting research at a scale and pace that would be impossible to replicate using our traditional recruitment methods. Additionally, the ease of sharing information and findings out of UserTesting has made our research more dynamic and engaging to stakeholders. We can't imagine a situation in which we step backwards now that we have demonstrated the expansion capability UserTesting provides to an in-house UX research practice.

      SurveyMonkey should suffice for most simple use cases to collect responses or feedback from clients. The templates that they offer are helpful as well as the guidance on question formulation. If you just need a stand alone software to distribute and collect surveys, then SurveyMonkey will meet your needs.

      Usability is good on UserTesting. The back-end interface is easy to understand, navigate and set up your tests. From the user side, it's also easy to find relevant tests over your phone or desktop. I haven't tried other testing platforms but I think anyone of any level of web development can understand how to set things up easily.

In addition to their in-line help (which was top-notch), they have UserTesting University, which is a community of like-minded corporations and individuals learning and sharing their experiences. The content included webinars, articles, and a variety of user-generated topics.

      From a technical perspective, the implementation was extremely smooth. Most of the change management / implementation hurdles were clearing use of the tool through our various security, legal, and information privacy teams. Once these concerns were addressed (UserTesting.com was very helpful in providing all the needed documentation), the implementation process was very simple and we were able to get going right away.

      SurveyMonkey is easier to customize and provides much more in depth analytics. SurveyMonkey also provides better templates providing us with a better presentation to our employees. SurveyMonkey also comes with a more trustworthy platform that ensures confidentiality, which is incredibly important to our employees and means we're getting more reliable results from the surveys.

      Ease of use, features are consolidated in one platform versus the likes of Hotjar for example where it's one-sided in finding frictions on our user experience. Ethnio is another good tool however, there are 2 separate tools I have to use to get the scheduling and the actual user test insights.

      • We use this to survey vendors after a trade show and their comments to me have helped improve other shows. I don't have hard numbers but I know our vendors, some of whom are associate members, are very happy to give this feedback because it helps their ROI too.
      • I know it has saved us employee time as we aren't sifting through email responses and entering them into a spreadsheet. SurveyMonkey does that for us.
      • We often need to do quick polls to our members to make decisions. This makes them feel like they are getting value for their membership dues that they pay our association.
