We use it in combination with our event management platform to provide attendees with a way to message each other during virtual shows. We embed it in pages on our sites and then direct attendees to engage with other attendees via Arena for ease of setup. Thousands of individuals have used it over the years.

It is well suited for situations where a chat solution can be embedded on a page. This instance requires minimal setup and allows you to add chat functionality to your site within minutes. I think it's less suited as an internal messaging tool- there are already other solutions like Slack that have cornered that market.

We've used Arena to provide the chat functionality aspect since it gives shows participants more control over who they engage with and how they engage with them. It's been used by tens of thousands of individuals across many shows, and participants have been quite happy with it.

It's well suited for environments where you have chat participants quickly dropping in and out of chat rooms for quick conversations. We use it in a virtual event environment where this is often the case. It's also good for an environment where each chat room has its own moderators who can control the individual rooms. It can also be easily embedded into sites and doesn't require development experience.

We've only compared Arena against building our own functionality for internal use. We decided that the cost of developing the service, maintaining the server capacity, and maintaining the code was outweighed by the ease of use of Arena's platform. It's difficult to keep server connections going for so many users and Arena does a good job of that.
