  • What-if analysis allows me to simulate any scenario and visualize results of any business decisions.

We use SAC as our tool for budgeting. We decided not to move forward with a SAP BPC project and decided to implement a budgeting solution from SAC that was ready in less than 5 months. We also use SAC as our tactical reporting tool for the finance department. We are covering the commodity reporting for controlling, treasury, AP and also more innovative approaches based on rolling forecasting, predictive Ema en arios for working capital and finance war room for the CFO.
  • Budgeting
  • Rolling forecast
  • Predictive working captital
  • Integrating digital data
  • Consolidation
Well suited in transactional reporting and what-if scenarios. Room for improvement integrating digital data.

Reporting, e.g. for Financials
But we are also thinking to expand to other functional areas, including logistics/SCM.
We had a really interesting use case for identifying our exposure to operations in Russia, following the recent invasion of Ukraine. Our teams were able to come up with a report - for our Finance community - in just 1 week. A real success story for us.
  • Financial reporting
  • Could also work in other areas, e.g. logistics/SCM
  • Fast deployment
  • Hard to get started with: technical set-up
  • Hard to get started with: not very intuitive for functional resources (many hours need to be invested to start to get results)
Speed of development and flexibility/convenience for users
Great user experience, with really good looking dynamic dashboards
Use cases are not limited to any functional area (e.g. finance/controlling)

We use for group reporting.
  • Dashboard
  • Visualization
  • Connecting data to S4.
  • Performance optimization of live data connection.
If the reports are not volume intense and require visualization with slice-and-dice options at the user's discretion, SAC is good.

Real-time analytics help customers in making decisions and using a single application for cross-functional analytics.
  • Executive Dashboards.
  • Self-service models for super users.
  • Planning capabilities with in reporting platform.
  • Competing with other peers in expanding footprint in non-SAP platforms.
  • Shaped up well in the last three years, advanced capabilities in AI/ML play a major role.
  • Simplify SAC connectivity with non-SAP peers.
Apt for super business users to generate stories for agile needs in their community. Helps businesses to setup a landscape on the fly than following traditional on-premise hosting; a single platform serves various reporting & planning needs. Not reliable for large datasets within a story/application.

SAC [SAP Analytics Cloud] is globally used for all reporting needs. At the beginning the main focus was on FP&A but it has been extended to all other functions.
  • Live connectivity to SAB BW
  • Using all BW features out of the box (hierarchies, objects attributes...)
  • Ability to widely share dashboards due to data access control coming from the source (BW)
  • Available visualizations (very limited since the start)
  • Mobile application, allowing side by side widgets
  • Not providing anymore concurrent session license model
It is particularly suited for live data consumption from BW for all kind of reporting / dashboarding when data doesn't need to be transformed.
Particularly for Finance, sales and marketing, all types of corporate reporting.
It is not appropriate if external data sets need to be linked to data exposed from BW.

Reporting Visualization for core Finance reports. In addition we use SAC Planning for basic financial cost center planning.
  • Nice Dashboards
  • Self Service creation of reports
  • Good way to simplify access to data for F executives
  • Performance is still an issue
  • Query capabilities are limited
  • Adhoc analysis
Predefined standard reports and dashboards (especially when getting data from multiple backends).

Use SAC to dashboard and share financial metrics to users of other departments
  • Visually display data
  • Makes data easy to understand
  • Simplifies data
  • Tells a story
  • Beginner users may be overwhelmed
  • Sometimes graphical display can be too busy
It is best suited to easily form data into a visual story to share results/info to end users.

  • Planning
  • Connections to SAP sources
  • Connections to non SAP sources

SAP Analytics Cloud is a great tool for planning and works seamlessly with the cloud connectors connecting to the backend system and hardly with any maintenance efforts.

I currently use SAP Analytics Cloud for planning and reporting purposes. We currently use SAP Analytics Cloud for 5 Year Planning on both an operational level and HR level. Additionally, we use it for our monthly reporting for our business partners to provide live dashboards on their current expense management.
  • Dashboards
  • Report Creation
  • Planning
  • Key Driver Planning
  • SAP Analytics Cloud can be daunting for new users, plus the unfamiliar user interface behind the designer panel can be daunting for new users or users who've predominantly only used one system previously.
  • The timing of how long it can take to pull reports from large data bases.
  • There is currently no line item commenting that can be done to specific measures that will remain in place. Such as Budget line item planning in BPC AO
SAP Analytics Cloud is a great reporting tool and can provide a lot of added value to make decisions. This tool is powerful and the planning portion is well done especially the customization down to a user level. One of the main features that can be worrisome is the new user experience and the potential errors for disaggregation.

It is a challenging product to use. First it is complicated and not intuitive. If you don't have a model in mind the tool is not going to work well no matter how well intentioned you are. That may not be SAP's fault but an important prerequisite that the marketing team ignores because they will not sell the product if that is acknowledged up front. From a business perspective, SAP is to blame even if the model is weak.
It is also very expensive, twice as much a Microsoft's visualization products. So comparing the two just for visualization, Microsoft wins hands down for cost and intuitive use. That is not a winning combination. We had to back away from the product because of thee challenges that SAP was not in a position to help us will.
  • Connection to SAP, therefore a much more secure and SOX compliant tool
  • Master data is aligned and less data cleansing is required.
  • Hierarchies come from the HANA system and are intuitive and prebuilt
  • Too expensive. Twice the cost of Microsoft
  • Not able to one click into a report. Requires too much set up and replacement when updated.
  • A more intuitive interface, there were a lot of gotchas when building a model from scratch.
A SOX compliant report - excellent
Hierarchies required - excellent

Detailed modeling - hard to do
Inputting new data - hard to do.

I use SAP Analytics Cloud to run some of financial reports where it can be published to our team and leadership for progress and status. As a cloud solution, it easy to access and operate with consistent training provide to understand and operate. Plus, there is less issue with installing application on to our laptop.
  • The menu is well organized for our team to use.
  • I would like to see a community of online support to recommend solution--such as FAQ
I believe some of the roles design for our team are not quite clear and sometime a user could have elevated access to run the financial statement such as the Profit & Loss statement to see globally which could provide a risk and harm if the user was to leak the information to the public.

SAC has been used for Financial dashboards as well as the SAP Control Tower, the ESG reporting solution from SAP.
From development point of view, creating a dashboard is fairly easy. Controls around accessing certain types of data are also straightforward. End-users will get a consistent look and feel between different dashboards, which is great.
  • Consistent look and feel, regardless of the type or content of the dashboard
  • Planning capabilities
  • the way to implement complex calculations and filtering accross tabs/tables is not intuitive in the beginning
well suited for dashboarding and consistent look and feel accross dashboards.
using the analytics slice-and-dice is less intuitive, but that is more getting used to how to use the tooling.
SAC delivers on what's promised.

We use SAC to report our Financial Statements and review the inventory subledger. The product allows use to utilize hierarchies to enhance our data and reporting. The product allows us to easily create visualizations based on models where multiple data sources are combined. The tool also integrates with Excel to allow for flexible financial reporting.
  • Easily create visualizations
  • Apply master data properties to transactional data
  • Upload data from multiple data sources
  • Enhanced modeling capabilities
  • Blending data from multiple models
  • Accessing live data via Excel
SAP Analytics Cloud is well suited to apply a structure to your data to allow for the creation of helpful visualizations and easy KPI creation. SAP Analytics Cloud is well suited to allow for mobile compatible reporting. SAC is less appropriate for blending data from different models.
