BigCommerce - the best shopping cart solution out there!
Overall Satisfaction with BigCommerce
After much research, I decided to use BigCommerce as my online shopping cart platform. I sell a few food based items online, and I found that the price and offering structure fit my needs well. The system as a whole is very stable and I was able to skin the website without the need for a website designer.
Pros
- Unlimited bandwidth - even on a low traffic site, you want this. Bandwidth adds up quick - both on the customer side and the management end
- Free template availability - they have lots - mobile ready too!
- Management portal - very intuitive and easy to use
Cons
- I'd like to have the abandoned shopping cart reminders added into my level
- Some default SEO - where keywords and metadata are automatically added based upon the data entered
- Included Amazon integration - there's already eBay - how about adding Amazon!
- Online Store
I am aware of the MailChimp integration - and I would say that this would be the one I am most likely to begin using in the near future. One thing about BigCommerce - there are a lot of add-on apps that integrate with a lot of third party systems. Definitely a plus for bigger retailers and those that expect exponential growth.
- Everyone needs a website these days, and many of us need one that allows us to sell. BigCommerce helps me accomplish this.
- Unlike other online shopping carts, I simply pay a low monthly fee - no bandwidth charges, no fees per order - and I have a fully operational shopping cart that I am very happy with.
- As stated earlier - a direct built in Amazon connection (aside from the newly added Amazon Payments) would be an awesome addition.
My personal business needs are small - I only sell 3 products (currently) online. Of the three solutions mentioned above that I interviewed, only BigCommerce provided me with a low cost, no fee shopping cart alternative that also gave me unlimited bandwidth, great support and an online shopping cart that is on and available 24 hours a day. Their system was a turnkey as you could get, to which only added to the value or the ROI.

BigCommerce Feature Ratings
Using BigCommerce
1 - I am the owner/operator of my website and therefore [run]my online shopping cart through BigCommerce. I do it all - from inception to reality - purchase the products, list them, reply to customers, package, and ship the orders and everything else in between. Hoping to grow this in the coming years.
1 - Well - to begin with, you do have to have a working knowledge of online sales. Better if you have experience in retail overall, but at least some familiarity in the online shopping experience - specifically with online shopping carts - doesn't hurt. You'll need some basic SEO knowledge (metadata/keywords/Google and search engine stuff) and be able to price your products according to the online trends. Some basic marketing knowledge is a great tool too!
- Online sales portal - best one out there.
- Ease of use - quick and easy setup/ability to do the setup work myself.
- Quick to market - from site setup to product upload/setup to first sale was very fast.
- The main thing was the ability to reskin the site on demand. Change the template, change the colors and I had a whole new site.
- Facebook selling - and other social media
- Amazon selling - hopefully in the very near future without the need of a 3rd party add on!
- Additional sales channels including drop shipping possibilities
Evaluating BigCommerce and Competitors

- Product Reputation
- Third-party Reviews
Unlimited bandwidth and no per sale fees were the primary part of the decision making process I used when evaluating this platform and the few others I entertained during my research process.
I am a consultant in the IT world, so I am constantly evaluating software and hardware solutions as well as various platforms for a multitude of client needs. The biggest change that I have already incorporated into my evaluation process is reading the professional level reviews as provided in forums just like this one (TrustRadius). Anyone selling something does their best to make their product look spectacular and perfect in every way. It's real users' reviews that show you whether there is any truth behind the claims.
