Acquisio is ideal for marketing agencies, especially those that focus on serving a specific market. If your Agency has access to client data, depending on the data, Acquisio's software could be a powerful way to deliver that data in the form of online ads. Acquisio might be too powerful for a small business looking to manage campaigns in-house.

WordStream

I think WordStream is a great tool for less experienced AdWords managers (or those with a lot of other responsibilities) who want to get the most out of their account but can't dedicate as much time to it as they might like. We use it to manage a single account, but I could see it being especially useful for those who manage multiple accounts. For managers already implementing complex scripts, it may not be as worthwhile; it also might not be appropriate for those with small budgets, as it is somewhat costly on a percentage basis (but gets better the more you're spending).

  • Streamlining basic tasks. The 20-minute work week function is great for finding low-hanging fruit in your account (negative keywords to add, underperforming ads to modify, and groups to split, etc.) in a quick, checklist-like function. It keeps you motivated to do at least the basics each week.
  • Easy negative additions. It's much easier to add single-word negative keywords using the QueryStream tool, rather than the standard Google Adwords interface, which by default has you adding the full search phrase. This may seem like a small thing, but it can greatly reduce the number of clicks needed to manage a larger account.
  • Ad editing/creation is much easier within the tool than within the standard Adwords setup. I'm able to duplicate ads and make minor tweaks without going through many steps. I also appreciate the tips for improving ad performance during the creation process.
  • The premier consulting package helps with answering questions and has given me a lot of good feedback regarding the strategic approach to our account and helped me with restructuring campaigns for better ROI.
  • The ability to see Quality Score at all levels (campaign, ad group, keyword) has given me a much clearer picture of where my account's inefficiencies are and how I can adjust my strategy accordingly.

Cons

  • We had some really deep issues with incorrect data in our reports about a year ago - data just wasn't coming into the platform correctly.
  • We recently could not export any of our reports because we had updated to the latest version of Flash - we actually had to uninstall Flash and reinstall an older version. This issue has yet to be resolved after two months.
  • We have had syncing issues many times, and we still need to manually sync each campaign every month before the data matches the actual results in Google.
  • Recent updates to Acquisio and the new reporting did not carry over our old reports into the new layout - recreating the old reports in the new layout is/was time consuming.

  • While the basic tools are pretty simple to use, the platform is actually pretty expansive and I don't feel like I've taken advantage of it (yet) as much as I could. It does require some training to get up to speed.
  • Support for Display ad campaigns is limited - this is mainly used as a way to optimize Search campaigns.
  • Reporting. I find the reporting setup to be a bit confusing and still rely on other sources for building out reports on our Adwords performance (Adwords itself and Google Analytics).

Having had sync issues several times in the past, and with the recent Flash incompatibility issue, if there was a way to generate reports that had the same high level of control and professional, streamlined look, with less time investment, we would look into it.

Within the interface there is an instant chat support feature that you can use to get help right away without having to pick up the phone or look for an email address. We have have an account manager who responds to emails quickly and is always helpful. Anytime issues require further tech support we are kept up to date on the progress of the issue and they are usually resolved the same day.

For our needs, WordStream was the most cost-effective AdWords management solution (as compared to Marin). Our real alternative was to continue using AdWords only; we felt that the added benefit of time-saving tools and personal consulting made the added management cost worthwhile, though we'll be continuing to monitor the ROI to ensure that it keeps delivering for us.
