RUN by ADP is perfect, in my opinion, for any size of company. Whether you have 5 employees or 500 employees. I feel that RUN by ADP will meet your needs and help make processing payroll as smooth as possible. Using RUN by ADP is a huge time saver for me. I love how easy it is to add new employees. I work at a company that is experiencing big growth and I am grateful for how easy it is to add new employees. I wish RUN by ADP was more transparent about the cutoff times to process payroll timely. It would be very nice to know what is the latest I could process payroll to have it be processed on time

Workday HCM

Workday HCM requires constant and a lot of HRIS support and in the event that a company cannot afford to staff accordingly it may create a lot of frustration. The system allows for a lot of flexibility in customizing and automating processes; however, that also requires constant maintenance by an experienced technical team. Workday HCM is a great solution for companies that are looking to capitalize on employee and manager self-service, standardization of practices, compliance and automation.

  • Since it is cloud based, it does not have version control issues (e.g. get 10 years behind on versions that are no longer supported), or the need for constant upgrades. This is completed behind the scenes.
  • The flexibility of Workday HCM implementation and then taking it to day to day operations was superior. You can then blow and out and start using other system cababilities when ready.
  • To enter the system, we must use multi-factor authentication for additional security of employee data. A user downloads their reports and then they are shown in their archive of work transactions and history.

  • I often process a "salary" amount for my teachers who provide private lessons and an hourly amount for their standard classes. It would be helpful if I could enter these totals on one line without there being an error message. It gets tedious needing to click "add a line" for each different payroll category I need to select.
  • If ADP could also save the lines I've added for each employee from the previous payroll that would be helpful too. For example, if Sharon had three separate lines for payroll (one being her standard teacher rate, the next her office/admin hours and third being her private lesson lump sum ) on the previous payroll when I log in this time if those three lines automatically populated under her name that would be helpful. Or having a function where I can select how many lines the teacher receives and can click them on and off as their role changes.

  • This is very specific, but I wish there was a way to search by a field and see which reports are using that field. For example, if I want to see how many direct reports each of our managers have. I know I have a field called "Number of Direct Reports" but I can't remember which reports I have used that field in, so I end up having to create a brand new report.
  • I do wish some of the larger reports would run faster. I sometimes end up having to come back later to get the results.
  • The formatting of email notifications could be better. They come in plain text emails which are hard to read.

Workday's on a great path in terms of user experience. Their goals is to deliver a use experience that doesn't require training or instruction, like Amazon on the consumer side for example. That's hard to do when you're talking about complex business processes and important and sensitive employee information, but they're doing it well

In 2014, Workday has changed the update process. There will be two updates a year; the updates will be delivered to customers typically in a 24 hour window during these two weekends a year. They also keep the Community up-to-date about any planned outages, etc. There is weekly scheduled downtime on Friday night.

From my perspective, the system runs like a well oiled machine and I have not had any issues with customers complaining about speed. If a report is taking long to run, the report can run in the background and you can go about your business. For larger enterprises, there is additional space and machines to process the application in what Workday refers to it as Extended Configuration Tenant

Workday is still learning about the needs of higher education. I have seen rapid improvement in support and knowledge over the last year so am confident this will continue to improve. Overall however, I have found the Support Team to be extremely responsive and Workday offers the advantage of having support across several timezones so that we never wait more than a few hours for a response.

I have done for report writing and mass imports (EIBs). They give materials and you run through examples, i.e. you don’t just watch them do tasks, so that is helpful. Training is expensive – a single reporting writing class is $600 per person for virtual training

It was implemented before my joining the company. At my last company, we used Workday professional services.

Based upon my experience at my last company, I would rate the implementation experience an 8/10. There are different ways to set things up and we had different people telling us different things. It set us back a couple of times.

Regarding configuration advice, we could set things up where every manager has supervisory organizations, or have it financially based i.e. aligned to cost center/department. We chose the individual manager path and I think we should have chosen a department route. Going down the individual manager path, to maintain the information, we have to inactivate a supervisory org whenever a manager changes/leaves.

Alternatives Considered

Compared to Paycor, ADP's web portal is much easier to navigate and use which has made running payroll easier. While the overall features are similar, ADP has more options such as integrating an HR support feature and linking to a 401k that make it more flexible. I have also found that generating reports is much easier in ADP's site, especially since it auto generates some key reports as soon as payroll is run.

Previously I have used internally created tools similar to workday that are not available to the public, however, Workday is much more intuitive in comparison has much stronger impact than other tools I have used and many times easier to navigate to the areas where you want to be than any other tool I have used.

  • Positive: My business is home based so having professional checks and payroll processing services gives the impression that my company is more professional and traditional.
  • Positive: The return on my investment with this service is a good measurable in that it's worth the overall cost for my small home-based business. All the expenses (printer ink, check forms and envelopes) associated with producing payroll, are in one place and the pre-formatted reports have saved me the time and trouble of creating these myself. In addition, it's easier to comply with state and local agencies because I receive notices and information in a timely fashion and I don't have to search for this information myself...saving me both time and money.

  • Gave us almost 4 hours per HR rep back on new hire day 1. We have a start date every 4 weeks and the manual entry of paperwork that was able to be eliminated with Workday has allowed us to put more HR reps in the classroom to aid with more important day 1 tasks.
  • Simplified search - the backend information is now housed in a simple database that allows me to pull with employee first or last name, or user ID.
  • We paid more for this solution, but we've seen a 33% increase in employee interaction since doing so.
