ADP RUN

RUN is good for companies that don't have a dedicated team for payroll and human resources. Everything you need can be found within the platform, including recruiting, forms and templates. If you don't want to take the time to add employees to the system, you can simply enter their name and email and turn it over to them to enter their info. Employees have access to their check stubs and can adjust their taxes, etc. on their own, saving the employer time and overhead. I don't believe that the platform is ideal for companies who have zero experience with payroll, as I believe having a dedicated representative for questions is more beneficial in those scenarios, but anyone who has done it for a few years should find the platform ideal and user-friendly.

This is a perfect solution for a large workforce with multiple moving departments. This allows for people to have access essentially 24/7 to some of their most commonly asked questions. The ability to track vacation time off, sick time, leave (parental/military/medical), and personal days is seamless. Another function our employees seem to like is the ability to track all of their work history in one place. There is a consistent timeline that lets them see where they have been and how they have progressed. With the addition of our leadership development schedule, it becomes very evident what their next step is

Pros

  • Everything is clear and concise. It makes using the program very user-friendly.
  • For running payroll, each employee can be set up in a way to make running the next payroll smooth. Details can be set, including workers comp codes and pay rate, so that each employee is already customized. It helps running payroll be more efficient.
  • Help is always available. When state taxes or local taxes are changed, I can send them a copy of the notice and they will take care of it quickly.

Cons

  • Adding columns to a payroll on the fly could be made easier.
  • I would love to have a more robust Paid Time Off Tracking tool.
  • Speeding up the site so that pages load faster would be nice. Especially when accessing the company directory.

We have dubbed Workday the 'Georgetown Management System' or GMS for short. I expect Workday will be around for quite some time to come. I hope that we can continue our partnership with them to build a great product that will continue to serve higher education as well as the commercial space.

The object-oriented model makes it very easy to navigate. The UI is very user friendly with icons. One of the biggest obstacles to overcome from an end-user perspective is the fact there is no menu; but everything can be driven off an object and through a related action. Again, if you can buy something off your favorite consumer website - you should be able to easily learn navigate

• We don’t use Workday customer service. We are obliged to go through our consultant, One Day. The level of service provided by One Day is poor.
• Turnaround time is terrible. People on tier one support don’t have enough knowledge. They spend a lot of time asking questions that they should know the answers to. Fix are often made locally to one specific area of the application. We often realize that the same problem crops up across the application and we have to make the same change everywhere – have to keep going back

There are 11 different courses. They have on-demand training one hour sessions and host half day training sessions – e.g. report writing split across 2 half days, where you go into a classroom online instructor led. The online stuff is all provided by Workday.

It was implemented before my joining the company. At my last company, we used Workday professional services.

Based upon my experience at my last company, I would rate the implementation experience an 8/10. There are different ways to set things up and we had different people telling us different things. It set us back a couple of times.

Regarding configuration advice, we could set things up where every manager has supervisory organizations, or have it financially based i.e. aligned to cost center/department. We chose the individual manager path and I think we should have chosen a department route. Going down the individual manager path, to maintain the information, we have to inactivate a supervisory org whenever a manager changes/leaves.

Alternatives Considered

Paycom was very good - but RUN is just so simple! Granted when using Paycom, I was processing payroll for some 50 persons. My ADP RUN experience is for a client that has only 3 employees. But RUN is very simple and straightforward - simple to use and setup. I would continue to use ADP RUN just because it is simpler, and provides mobile access.

Previously I have used internally created tools similar to workday that are not available to the public, however, Workday is much more intuitive in comparison has much stronger impact than other tools I have used and many times easier to navigate to the areas where you want to be than any other tool I have used.

Workday has released Financials and is continuing to develop it's Human Capital Management footprint with the addition of Workday Recruiting. I think customers will find that is easy to add on additional functionality in the system.Workday does make it easy for customers to make changes without relying on IT resources. The Business Process framework is a visual tool that allows functional resources to make changes and see the flow of the transaction
