I think it all depends on what the client is looking for. I mean we have been using Vantage for the last 6 years and it has come a long way from where it started. The nice thing is we have been able to grow with it and configure things to how we need them to be for our business. So each business needs are going to be different and ADP Vantage can keep up with those needs.

Workday HCM

Workday HCM requires constant and a lot of HRIS support and in the event that a company cannot afford to staff accordingly it may create a lot of frustration. The system allows for a lot of flexibility in customizing and automating processes; however, that also requires constant maintenance by an experienced technical team. Workday HCM is a great solution for companies that are looking to capitalize on employee and manager self-service, standardization of practices, compliance and automation.

Pros

  • ADP Vantage HCM is nicely laid out so it is user friendly. It gives you the look and feel of what other popular apps might look like so there is a familiarity there.
  • ADP Vantage HCM being a one stop shop, makes it nice to only have to keep track of one log in and I have all of the information I need at my fingertips.
  • ADP Vantage HCM is always evolving and while at times this can be a challenge I find it to be a strength that they are always trying to improve the product.

  • Since it is cloud based, it does not have version control issues (e.g. get 10 years behind on versions that are no longer supported), or the need for constant upgrades. This is completed behind the scenes.
  • The flexibility of Workday HCM implementation and then taking it to day to day operations was superior. You can then blow and out and start using other system cababilities when ready.
  • To enter the system, we must use multi-factor authentication for additional security of employee data. A user downloads their reports and then they are shown in their archive of work transactions and history.

Cons

  • We just upgraded to Vantage Time Version 8. While we are glad that we do not have to worry about Java any more the look and feel is a little lack luster. The screen is boring and it can be hard to locate what you are looking for because nothing really stands out.
  • Since upgrading to Vantage Time Version 8 things have been moved around that we were not expecting so I think it would have been helpful to have that laid out during the implementation process.
  • The other item that I have personally had issues with is Employee Documents. This has given errors across our company so at any given moment you do not have access to obtain an EE's documents. This needs improvement.

It is work to make one system the source of truth for our data, but now that it is done, there is less work involved in staying on this path. This means for us that maintaining and/or implementing new modules like performance, finance, talent, etc. is simple. It's a no-brainer

when required to move from PayForce to Vantage we expected to have greater functionality and reporting - did not expect to be forced to move to a product that was not ready, provided less functionality, required more dependence on ADP Service Rep for day to day function and cost more - was a big swing and a miss for ADP

Workday's on a great path in terms of user experience. Their goals is to deliver a use experience that doesn't require training or instruction, like Amazon on the consumer side for example. That's hard to do when you're talking about complex business processes and important and sensitive employee information, but they're doing it well

From my perspective, the system runs like a well oiled machine and I have not had any issues with customers complaining about speed. If a report is taking long to run, the report can run in the background and you can go about your business. For larger enterprises, there is additional space and machines to process the application in what Workday refers to it as Extended Configuration Tenant

• We don’t use Workday customer service. We are obliged to go through our consultant, One Day. The level of service provided by One Day is poor.
• Turnaround time is terrible. People on tier one support don’t have enough knowledge. They spend a lot of time asking questions that they should know the answers to. Fix are often made locally to one specific area of the application. We often realize that the same problem crops up across the application and we have to make the same change everywhere – have to keep going back

Some training is offered online. Cost is per-person. This also gets quite expensive. Training doesn’t follow a logical path A to B. Starts in middle. When you try to do it afterwards at your desk, difficult.

A lot of set ups vary from company to company so parts of our training we found it difficult to relate it to our processes. They have TONS of training modules available and a streamlined process for what you should complete and when. Would have been helpful to have onsite training for how much one pays for the system.

• In-person training. WD was not very upfront about cost of training. It is quite expensive (had to travel to either Chicago or California, on top of training cost) and we could only afford to send one person (me) to get basic training. Basics were somewhat helpful, but could have been better. She got bits and pieces, but felt that a sold week of more rigorous, systematic training would have been better.

There were some miscommunications from the One Source team and the implementation was a little rocky.
• They entered employee data late in the process leaving us no time to clean the data.
• We did not get much information from the implementation team, on why things were being done the way they were, and we felt a bit out of the loop. Their process was very complex and communication with us was poor.
• In general, I would say that the One World team knew how to get our data in the system, but they didn’t know much about how the system actually works. Result of this is that we were left to our own devices once the implementation was complete. They didn’t provide any documentation or guidance on how to get up and running with the system. Some of this is a Workday problem: they have virtually no best practice documentation or admin user documentation, so we were on our own. Most of our questions were answered by other clients through the community forum / knowledge base, but the forum design is poor and it can be quite difficult to find the information you need.
• One Source did set up a sandbox environment which was useful; but unfortunately, anything we built in the sandbox could not be transferred to production, but had to be re-created

Previously I have used internally created tools similar to workday that are not available to the public, however, Workday is much more intuitive in comparison has much stronger impact than other tools I have used and many times easier to navigate to the areas where you want to be than any other tool I have used.

Workday has released Financials and is continuing to develop it's Human Capital Management footprint with the addition of Workday Recruiting. I think customers will find that is easy to add on additional functionality in the system.Workday does make it easy for customers to make changes without relying on IT resources. The Business Process framework is a visual tool that allows functional resources to make changes and see the flow of the transaction

Return on Investment

  • Positive - saving the admins time by allowing EE's to access their own information.
  • Positive - Managers being able to use Vantage easily to manage their employees.
  • Negative - would probably be when the system gives you errors randomly that are not true errors. Once you refresh the page or log out and back in then the error does not come up. Not sure if this has to do with connection as well.

  • Goals can be much more easily followed throughout the year
  • Updating information to reflect changes in processes or new ones altogether are easy to edit or add
