Considered Both Products
Atlassian Jira
Chose Atlassian Jira
It’s good overall as they respond well.
Chose Atlassian Jira
Depending on use and knowledge, both Jira and Microsoft SharePoint allow for task management, file sharing, communication, reporting, etc. However, out of the box, Jira is ready to go, whereas SharePoint requires more customization to get to the same point. Although Jira could …
Chose Atlassian Jira
These are not very efficient like JIRA is. It's easy to understand and browse this product. Not much of training is needed here. We like the ease and smoothness of using this product. The look and feel of this product is awesome. It's more cost effective than other tools.
Chose Atlassian Jira
We remain with JIRA even though our umbrella company is fully invested with ServiceNow(SNOW) as SNOW has just a portion of the utility of JIRA when it comes to agile development. SNOW also requires advanced technicians and an entire support team to maintain, whereas JIRA's …
Chose Atlassian Jira
JIRA blows Sharepoint out of the water. I've been a heavy user of both and the JIRA implementation we have now has reduced so many headaches within our organization. At one time, we had physical cards to track Sharepoint issues and were forced to stand around a board for 15 …
Chose Atlassian Jira
JIRA is by far more superior to Sharepoint, in my opinion, when it comes to tracking information. Sharepoint is very clunky and difficult to customize. We spent way too much time trying to configure Sharepoint into a useable product until we decide to just abandon the product …

We still have Confluence and Google Drive, but we wanted a product that could provide document security and a single point of access that easily integrated into our active directory. Since we use this for our intranet site, we found the features easier to stand up and the UI …

There is no competitor to SharePoint for an organization our size. The integration into our development environment, active directory, and other office tools just can't be matched (specifically from a contractual agreement and holistic perspective with ALL of our toolsets). Micr…
Chose Microsoft SharePoint
I think SharePoint has been around the longest, at least it's the first cloud-based collaboration tool I used many years ago. It has a very Microsoft feel which has its perks and drawbacks. Reminds me of when I used Microsoft mobile OS and how it felt like Windows on a phone. …
Chose Microsoft SharePoint
Teams is the new front end for SharePoint. So far, I like the look, feel and adaptability of it better. As for Confluence, I have never been a fan of it's searching capabilities. Additionally, we've encountered users having a hard time being aware of other "spaces" within …
Chose Microsoft SharePoint
we have tried Confluence as a collaboration tool as well. Confluence does have a steep learning curve in my opinion. I think SharePoint is easier to adapt to because it builds off of other Microsoft habits, but neither is super intuitive. If I were to pick one it would be …

Ease of use, ease of setup, ease of administration, ease of configuration, ease of customization... what's not to like? SharePoint's got exactly what you need. Just don't expect too many frills, bells, whistles in terms of UI, but even then, it gets the job done.

Jira facilitates software development, bug tracking, and sprints. It's ideal for structured workflows, issue management, and customer communication. However, more straightforward tools might be more efficient for highly creative, unstructured tasks or tiny, agile teams with quick visual overviews. Jira's complexity can be overkill for basic task lists.

SharePoint Document Management excels as a central repository for storing, organising, and retrieving documents. It supports version control, metadata tagging, secure access, and integration with tools like Power Automate. At our organisation, it's used for managing contracts, policies, and supplier documents. SharePoint Workflow Automation integrates with Power Automate to streamline approvals, gather feedback, and automate recurring tasks. This reduces reliance on email chains and manual trackers.

Pros
Atlassian
  • Integration of tools like Bitbucket, Github, etc., has made it easier to track the code changes, pull requests, and branches linked to the respective ticket.
  • The detailed tracking system in JIRA has helped the teams prioritize and understand the project tasks and issues.
  • JIRA's project tracking board helps you keep track of the project, its flow, and expectations in a structured format.

  • We track employees' performance sheets, which are accessible to the employee, his manager, and HR, and this helps with transparency.
  • We maintain technical process documents and SOPs, which help us quickly provide relevant documents during audits.
  • We maintain incident documents change request forms in SharePoint, which helps us in tracking the changes.

Cons
Atlassian
  • The interface is not intuitive to learn for new users
  • JQL is similarly challenging for newbies
  • It's possible to accidentally move issues from one sprint to another without realizing your mistake
  • Certain issue attributes aren't available in certain view (e.g. story points from the epic overview)

  • Windows Explorer users have some difficulty having to constantly UPLOAD / DOWNLOAD files. Specifically on the DOWNLOAD when they are used to Drag & Drop in & out of LOCAL folders via Window's explorer.
  • Microsoft SharePoint supports multiple "library" types. When implementing our "image" library the search function is done via "tags" and boolean logic. This is challenging to most end users. I'd like our users to be able to search our Microsoft SharePoint image library without having to enter KEYWORD or other BOOLEAN logic.
  • Microsoft SharePoint can also be an internal website for each department or company wide communication tool but I believe these features are geared for much larger organizations. Since we are a SMB we really aren't using these features. So maybe something more useful to SMBs would be nice.

This is because Jira Software generates a huge profit for an affordable price. Having a tool that makes team management transparent and effective is very valuable.
In addition, the renewal of Jira Software and all Atlassian tools is predictable and clear, as the prices are published on the Atlassian website and there is no pyramid of intermediaries.

It's integral to our business. It's already included with most of the Office 365 licensing we buy, so the cost is effectively zero. It stores our files, it is the foundation for custom applications, and Microsoft only continues to enhance its functionality and its connections to other Microsoft tools. SharePoint just keeps getting better and better.

Usability
Atlassian
The interface is simple and easy to use if you have some experience with it. Configuration is also logical most of the time. However, less experienced users tend to find themselves lost in some tasks - usually complex project configuration- but sometimes simple things, such as seeing why a user can't move issues in a workflow. Jira configuration requires a good amount of experience - and even experienced users often resort to documentation. It's a tool that's easy to use if you know what you're doing and where to find the proper documentation, but novice users tend to find it challenging.

No usability issues reported. Individual teams also have allocated areas which replace legacy shared drives on local LANs. Access to Sharepoint resources is fully integrated with corporate Active Directory with additional two-factor authentication required for administrative users. Users have access to Microsoft Services Hub which allows you to create, manage, and track support requests while staying current on Microsoft technologies with access to select self-paced learning paths

I have not had a chance to contact JIRA's customer support. It does offer extensive documentation, although it often feels too technical for me. There is also a JIRA training app that lets you take little lessons and quizzes on different areas (e.g., JIRA basics, agile). I did find it a helpful way to teach myself.

Support for SharePoint is quite good. Microsoft provides good support. Microsoft offers
  • Quick turnaround time for issues
  • A range of support services
  • Access to a network of resources
  • Escalation of issues
  • Ongoing development and commitment to produce enhancement
The majority of support is required for initial installation. Once complete and the system is operating we have had very few support issues.

One of their strong points i stheir documentation. Almost all of the basic set up needed within JIRA is available online through atlassian and its easy to find and very precise. The more critical issues need to be addressed as well and hence the rating of 8 instead of a 9.

I like to learn at my own pace and online training allows for that. Additionally, you can skip through pieces of content that you already know or are already comfortable with. Microsoft actually offers great videos on their website for basic fundamental SharePoint Training. I have used these training videos in some of my own training sessions with end users.

Take your time implementing Jira. Make sure you understand how you want to handle your projects and workflows. Investing more time in the implementation can pay off in a long run. It basically took us 5 days to define and implement correctly, but that meant smooth sailing later on.
