The ability to seamlessly connect to multiple data sources (ODBC/OLE DB, Access, Excel, etc.) is the ultimate strength of Crystal reports. Almost any data source is accessible. Crystal pulls the data across the data sources in a much more meaningful way than is achievable by managing it by a 2-D tool like Excel.

As told before, Crystal works really well when connecting to SQL DB´s also other connectors available as ODBC, etc, we merge data from different DB and also different sources as from web (Dropbox, Drive) and it works quite good, we also pull info from xls spreadsheet, and from MySql databases.

Allows us to use diverse data sources. For example, we can use hybrid queries from the design using the ODBC connector in two different databases. It integrates very well with Visual Studio which allows us to make connections and use all the power of SQL Server using its views and stored procedures.

Crystal does provide access to a lot of data sources. The problem comes in setting up those data sources. You do not always get the correct driver in the install package and will need to go out and find your own drivers and install them. The install process itself is where the issues lie. There are also times when systems may be updated and Crystal Reports drivers are not updated in a consistent manner so it will break your connections. It is generally not too difficult to implement a fix but it is frustrating.

Upgrading to the newer version required us to relink all the tables. However, on the initial stage, after creating and setting up the reports properly with linking, it was possible to refresh and fetch data from as many sources as we wanted from various different sources of the data. The easiest and well-manipulated function is that you can connect a report to as many data sources as you like.

It works for me when I have to pull data from SQL server. I do not have experience beyond this. I have not seen any examples of merging data from different data sources. It seems to support ODBC quite well.

The reason for giving this rating is the ability of SAP Crystal to connect and collect data from any virtual source and this means that you do not need to have all of your data stored in a database. It may preserved from cloud, phone or even within your systems and SAP Crystal will connect to it and make a meaning from it hence become reliable and intuitive

Great possibility to extract data from multiple sources (even sources that are very different from each other) between different operating systems, (iOS, Android, Windows, Linux, etc.) and different types of hardware such as servers and embedded systems. There is also the possibility of reporting additional hardware or software on which one would like to operate.

Our team has used excel spreadsheets and relation connection for our project reports. Anyone can use other types of data sources too. It's very easy to use for someone with a lot of experience with this tool, but a harder task for beginners, that's why the rating I provided is an 8.

You can connect to almost any type of database that has an ODBC or JDBC connector. This includes real-time data sources.

Crystal is less adept at merging data from disparate data sources when those data sources are large because it will bring all of the data from each source into memory to merge it there which can cause high memory usage and a lot of disk IO as it swaps data into and out of its own temp files.

I have used Crystal Reports to access data from DB2, SQL Server, Progress database, Excel spreadsheets, XML data, and Lotus Notes databases. Crystal Reports makes it easy to included data from multiple sources in one report. Sometimes the report performance takes a hit when linking several data sources but I keep finding ways to improve the performance the more I use Crystal Reports.

The data source is very good. There is a bit of a learning curve but once you figure it out it becomes second nature. It is very good at allowing users to pick what datasource they want to run a report for. Also it can handle ALOT of parameters, which helps users nail down what data they want on a report

We use our own SAP Crystal Server we get the chance to run test and setup access and test features to get the merge between our third-party tools for BI analysis like Microsoft Power BI, by exporting data using ODBC calls or migrating the information into Access format. When you work daily setting up the connectors you get the chance to see its power by enforcing your real-time reports, for example we set at least 5 to 10 daily reports that come out from our SAP Crystal Server for Sage 300 CRE and allows to deliver that information in at least 3 ways at the same time, by email, by our intranet, and by standard PDF reports.

I have only used Crystal Reports within one stack configuration, although I have used it across multiple services and client end points. As far as I have seen, the results work real-time with our custom designed back end databases and data points merging product indexes along with customer and supplier information.

Crystal Reports can connect to a wide variety of traditional (SQL, Oracle, Access) and more abstract (logs, emails, XML) data sources. Once the source data becomes a data set in Crystal, it can generally be easily manipulated. You will still run into the general types of issues by merging any other datasets (data types primarily), but overall, Crystal can connect to whatever I need it to.

Crystal can connect to all ODBC or OLEDB data sources. It also provides legacy connectors for connecting directly to older spreadsheets and mdb files, including reading your windows file folders as if they were database tables.

Crystal will also allow you to directly link tables from disparate data sources, although this isn't always an efficient query.

Reports can be created straight from databases for operation reporting. But for that you should know first how to connect and use it. New users find difficulties doing that. It has a lot of features which help create a report using your databases. Financial reporting such as statements and revenue reports can be quickly created, and are nothing short of pixel perfect.
