Adobe Analytics

Overall it is a strong analytics tool and appears that it can do a good job for most scenarios. Cost is a factor, as it is a considerable investment.

Amplitude Analytics

If you are working with a tool where tracking actions taken by users in that tool is very important. In tools with very few users and not a ton of custom editing, this may not be necessary

Pros

  • The consistency of reporting has always been good meaning that we have never experienced any major discrepancies. I obviously think this is a huge factor when considering a reporting tool because the company's performance is judged based off the data housed in here.
  • We have never run into any technical issues with Adobe's servers being down and Adobe Analytics becoming inaccessible. This could cause major problems if you are trying to take care of highly important reports or requests.
  • The customer service is also fantastic. Any time I reach out to my rep, they always respond in a timely manner. I believe this is important in every aspect.

  • You can always get up-to-date usage data on all of our users. It is really down to the minute information, with basically no delays.
  • There are so many usage events. Events basically exist for every possible action a user can take in the software.
  • The charts and everything are very customizable and easy to navigate even if you are not familiar with analyzing data.

Cons

  • Implementation is difficult - Both initial implementation as well as adding additional features. Adobe jobs implementation out to 3rd parties and I'm sure that a large part of the experience has to do with how well that 3rd party is at their job. Maybe this could be better controlled and made easier for clients by taking implementation back under the Adobe umbrella
  • Support is overseas and sometimes slow to respond - I've had issues with support really understanding my questions, often issues have to be escalated. Oftentimes it takes the full 24 hours to respond, not sure if this is because of time differences or what, but most other companies using overseas support agents seem to respond in a more timely fashion. Also, it is rare to have an issue resolved on first contact.
  • Context for the reports/metrics - It is easy to look at data but interpret it wrong because you aren't really looking at the right metrics or the right data points.

  • No capabilities to group numbers.
  • Impossible to aggregate the data altogether so sometimes it's hard to have a real overview of everything.
  • Even though I find the interface rather user-friendly and accessible to people new to data analysis, maybe it could be useful to have a step by step guide when starting using the tool.

We are satisfied with the product performance and are not seeking alternative solutions. Once you learn how to use this software effectively, it becomes very valuable. You just have to struggle through the learning curve

Usability

Again, learning how to use the system is difficult. It is nearly unusable if you haven't received training, and training from Adobe is EXTREMELY expensive

Reliability and Availability

Adobe Analytics9.0

Adobe SiteCatalyst has a good up-time track record, but there are cases in which the interface reports a "Network Acceleration" issue, which can be frustrating. There are also times when data can be "latent" for customers, but most of these cases are due to spikes in traffic or temporary server issues.

Performance

Adobe Analytics8.5

For the most part, Adobe SiteCatalyst reports work ok, but there are cases in which reports take a long time to return. These cases are usually when too much data has been stored in Conversion Variables (eVars).

Support

Adobe Analytics5.7
Based on 9 answers
I give the rating of a 4 just because it seems more like a process that is failing. Any time I have put a request in, they have taken days, sometimes weeks, to get back to me and even then, the issue may still persist. I believe this is the biggest weakness of the Adobe Analytics tool and has a lot of room for improvement.

In-Person Training

Adobe Analytics3.6
Based on 3 answers
Myself and others have found the in-person training ok, but not outstanding. Trainers are good at explaining how to use the product features, but sometimes lack "real-world" experience on how to use the product as they are people who have often not previously been web analysts. There is also a shortcoming in company-provided training on advanced uses of the product. The implementation training is very good.

Online Training

Adobe Analytics8.0
Based on 4 answers
The online training for Adobe SiteCatalyst consists of short product videos. These are ok, but only go so far. For a while Adobe charged a fee for this, but recently made these available for free. There are many great blog posts that help users learn how to apply the product as well.

Implementation

Adobe Analytics8.0
Based on 7 answers
The success of implementations depend primarily on the solution design, and also on the ability to work with developers to get the solution implemented correctly. This is not an aspect of the product per se.

Alternatives Considered

Adobe analytics has been selected as a platform to be used across a huge company, which tracks the performance of a hundreds of thousands pages with different type of content. It's believed to be the most accurate tool and the support on the side of the platform has been always strong. However, when it comes to campaign management, double click is a better tool, as it also can provide conversion data, but along with cost and traffic data, too.

Amplitude Analytics is an easier tool to use. It requires less knowledge of SQL and as long as you have notions of data analysis and retrieving data in general. It is much more user-friendly and allows for easy and quick reporting. It can be used by different teams and therefore can be an easily shareable tool.

Return on Investment

  • I have increased my marketing reach by understanding how people are using my website and been able to increase the amount of repeat customers. I attribute this to ease of navigation as a result of Adobe Analytics and my push to understand it.
  • I spend less time on campaigns that do not work and am more responsive to what viewers want.
  • I am able to see the exact point at which a customer leaves my site and have some insight into why that is happening where it is.
