Largely the platforms relies on competitive intelligence, and features SEO staples like backlink checking, keyword analysis to refine SEO and PPC campaigning and locate low-cost / high-yield keywords, analysis of competitors who co-occupy desired ad and listing spaces, domain vs. domain analysis, as well as site audit and domain tracking. N/A
SpyFu is the eponymous SEO and PPC research platform from the company in Scottsdale, Arizona focused on "spying" on competitors, or basically using their behaviors to refine your own through keyword and content analysis, and backlink poaching. This positional search engine optimization and paid listings management platform touts the ability to lower costs and raise rankings via a Kombat-oriented approach... basically a cute way of saying "it makes comparisons" of how well your site does in niche…

Majestic SEO
Chose Majestic SEO
SEMRush, Moz, Ahrefs.
All of these tools have their place and they all are very good. I can't really compare Majestic to any of them as I have very specific uses of Majestic. If I had to pick one tool to use for the rest of my SEO career it would probably be SEMRush. If I could …
Chose Majestic SEO
Majestic is #2 on my list. SEMRush is my favorite because of its breadth of scope. The features it offers for a similar price are, in my opinion, superior. Majestic is better in terms of domain analysis. SEMRush is better in terms of keyword tracking, SEO Audits, PPC analysis, …
Chose Majestic SEO
Most of the SEO platforms have their own unique features. Majestic really focuses on backlinks, which is arguably the most important aspect of SEO. It is not a full-feature platform such as Moz or SEMRush, but they are the best in backlinks. Majestic fits in any large-scale SEO …
Chose Majestic SEO
Majestic is best used in conjunction with a tool like Moz and SEMRush. Although it can be used by itself, it is difficult to work with unless you really know what you're looking for and how to use that data when you find it.
Chose Majestic SEO
Majestic has features that most of their competitors don't. The backlink index is better than SEMRush in my opinion which also lacks being able to look at links from a range of dates. Their metrics are harder to fool when compared to Moz and I would say that AHREF's is a good …
Chose Majestic SEO
Majestic SEO is handy tool for SEO and you can easily navigate in it's dashboard. You can set everything and plan your preferences to have weekly and monthly reports. Respect to the other tools, Majestic SEO is doing well with it's performance and fresh database. It is really …
Chose Majestic SEO
Majestic SEO is very strong tool in all manners and compare to other digital marketing tools, we are working with many of other tools to create our clients recommendation but the most data is fetched by Majestic SEO tool. That's the main reason to choose this tool and we are …
Chose Majestic SEO
There are many tools for digital marketers on the web, so you just catch the right tool for a particular scenario and task. So we chose Majestic SEO for its competitive price, its features, ease of use, reporting manner with customizable options, and creative analysis of …
Chose Majestic SEO
Majestic has a reputation of being one of the best tools out there. Compared to the other leaders in the SEO space, Majestic is probably the best all-around tool, with very concrete capabilities in the areas of keyword research, backlink profile analysis, and on-page technical …
Chose Majestic SEO
Majestic was the tool the company was using when I came on board. And I think in the future, they'll have to pick a different more versatile tool that completes a variety of tasks.
Chose Majestic SEO
Majestic has the biggest index of backlinks. Also, it's list of parameters for backlinks is the biggest, which makes filtering backlinks a lot easier.

Finally, Majestic has Bulk Backlink Checker, which saver a lot of time when checking backlinks of freelance link builders.
Chose Majestic SEO
We use Majestic SEO as the main tool for getting backlink data. Moz is a competitor that we also use but for a different purpose. With Majestic SEO we get a lot more accurate link numbers, where we use Moz for its rank tracker and metrics like Domain Authority. Moz doesn't …
Chose Majestic SEO
Ahrefs Site Explorer comes pretty close to Majestic SEO. I always used both the tools in parallel as some features were better in Ahrefs. But if you are looking for a cheaper tool and don't use the backlink research tool so often, go for one of the plans from Majestic SEO.
Chose Majestic SEO
I would say Ahrefs does somehow a better job in terms of data quality, ease of use and intuitiveness. Majestic SEO surely follows Ahrefs on the second position as per my opinion. Majestic SEO has a huge potential for improvement when it comes to the way tool portrays …
Chose Majestic SEO
Majestic SEO is definitely the top notch product for link analysis and no other tool beats Majestic SEO.
Chose Majestic SEO
Majestic SEO lacks some of the features of SEMRush and MOZ, but these features are simply not what the software focuses on (or even claims to focus on). Majestic's all about the crawl--from what I've seen (and I've compared monthly crawl data provided by these other platforms …
Semrush
Chose Semrush
We have used a few similar products to SEMrush at different points. Generally the breadth of information in SEMrush is one of the biggest reasons to use it. If your focus is more specific on SEO Moz Pro might be a better choice. If you are exclusively focused on SEM/PPC it …
Chose Semrush
SEMRush is definitely better than SpyFu in terms of the amount of data you get, the detail of the data, and the accuracy of the data. SpyFu is like a beginner's version of SEMRush. SpyFu is great if you're smaller, less experienced, and want to spend less money - but SEMRush is …
Chose Semrush
Compared to Moz: SEMRush is more down to the nitty-gritty. Less fluff.
Compared to SpyFu: SEMRush has more functionality and is easier to use.
Compared to BrightEdge: in an ideal world I'd want both SEMRush and BrightEdge in my MarTech stack, but SEMRush is inexpensive, and Brig…
Chose Semrush
Semrush is nice and working on integrating more SEM. It still does not have as many reporting features for SEM as RavenTools, but you can tell they are working on it. It has more features than SpyFu or BrightLocal. Although I like BrightLocal's interface a little better, …
Chose Semrush
For me, Semrush has a good UX and is a trustworthy source of organic traffic data. When compared to other tools, they sometimes could be pretty much off when I observe data in Google Search Console and Google Analytics. That's why I think Semrush does a pretty good job for any …
Chose Semrush
Better value overall. [Semrush] at the end of the day was better suited for our needs.
Chose Semrush
I've reviewed a number of tools, and continue to periodically. Semrush easily wins for the breadth of coverage, and it does them well. Some tools designed for a single task win in those tasks, but none compare overall.
Some other tools I've looked at are:
Authoritas
Semrush gives us all the data we need in one dashboard. It works much better than using many different tools. There are tools that are better for certain aspects, but none that provide the depth of data available in Semrush.
Chose Semrush
In general SEMRush is a great value compared to most of these tools, particularly the very expensive "enterprise" tools.
Chose Semrush
I alternate several tools. But for example, I used to use Moz and Ahrefs, now I only use Semrush for technical issues.
For Keywords research I use Semrush and others, to have different sources of information and compare to validate.
Chose Semrush
Semrush is the widest-reaching tool with the most features, however, I find the keyword and SERP reliability can be a little off fairly often, especially when algorithm updates are concerned. Generally, though the tool is the best all-rounder and offers the widest breadth of …
Chose Semrush
SEMRush is my personal favorite SEO paid or free tool to use. I personally love the way it breaks up individual projects and allows you to work on each client's site as a whole separate from your other internal or external work. I also love how it allows quickly exported …
Chose Semrush
SEMRush is really in a league of its own. I work with Screaming Frog, Moz, Hrefs, and MajesticSEO. None of them touch the comprehensive capabilities of SEMRush, especially for competitor analysis. SEMRush handles more than just SEO and SEM, but all things combined. Definitely a …
Chose Semrush
SEMRush blows them all away with the exception of Ahrefs. I think these two are the undisputed kings of SEO tools. Majestic is also an amazing tool - and I use it alongside SEMRush - but it's not as good with several of the key things I use SEMRush for. Ahrefs is also very …
Chose Semrush
SEMRush has more limited functionality than some of the full-suite options like BrightEdge and Searchmetrics, but the tool is more affordable and still performs to our expectations. We find it to be a good medium-use tool, and combined with some additional keyword-tracking …
Chose Semrush
The reason why I like SEMRush is that you get some of the best webinars in the business and it's really many software combined in one. They also keep adding beta features so they keep improving the software.
Chose Semrush
I used Botify, Oncrawl, Searchmetrics, MyPOSEO, XENU, ScreamingFrog, website Auditor, Link Assistant, GTmetrix, ahref, Majestic...

Every tool listed above is useful (except Searchmetrix). SEMrush is just one tool which is necessary, such as Oncrawl or Xenu.
Chose Semrush
The only alternative that comes to my mind is Ahrefs. However, Ahrefs is more expensive compared to SEMrush. SEMrush is much more keyword specific tool so I believe for our purposes SEMrush is better option. Pricing also plays a role because Ahrefs has a lot more options that …
Chose Semrush
SEMRush has a much stronger position when you compare it to other alternatives. The reason being that there are only a few tools that provide an overall service including both SEO and SEM. Also, the fact that it allows competitor analysis and a side by side analysis of KPIs …
Chose Semrush
I like the UI of SEM Rush and the support.
SpyFu
Chose SpyFu
SpyFu is less robust than SEMRush in a lot of ways. Its keyword tool for example severely lags behind SEMRush. However, SEMRush does not have a solid PPC insight tool like SpyFu. This is reason alone to use both instead of just using SEMRush. We also see that SpyFu does a …
Chose SpyFu
I would say that SEMRush is the main competitor. I have used both, and I think they are both great platforms.
Chose SpyFu
As an independent company working on our own behalf, SpyFu seemed like a better fit than SEMRush, which appears to be geared more towards agencies or consultants. Additionally, SpyFu offers a lot more features than Linkody, which will be beneficial in the long term.
Chose SpyFu
I prefer SpyFu to SEMRush because, for a free version, SpyFu gives more information and has a better, easier to use interface. SpyFu also doesn't give you a max amount of times you are able to view it on the free version which I love and also use often.
Chose SpyFu
SpyFu is a better choice for competitive intelligence. SEMRush is better for running advanced SEO reports on a domain.
Chose SpyFu
SpyFu is definitely a lower-cost, more simplistic, easier-to-use, less robust tool compared to SEMRush. However, they provide similar information in similar ways. I would say for the serious, large business looking to invest in a hardy tool, SEMRush is great. For the smaller …
Chose SpyFu
Personally, the only tool I use as often as SEMRush. If you have the SEMRush paid version, I personally choose to use that over SpyFu. SpyFu is the best free search analytics tool online though. It has the greatest offerings in its free pack and allows you to have the most …
Chose SpyFu
It isn't fair to compare these two tools overall. They have a few shared pieces, but SEMRush is much more expensive but includes many more tools making it a full SEO suite. When looking strictly at the shared tools from both companies (the competitor keyword tools), they stack …
Chose SpyFu
When it comes to assessing the competition, SpyFu is fantastic. I prefer its competitor analysis features much more than SEMRush or any other platform out there. That is what I use SpyFu for. Regarding reporting and integrations, it doesn't quite seem like it's the best option …
Chose SpyFu
Currently we actively use Semrush and Similar Web, along side SpyFu. To be honest, the platforms are fairly interchangeable. Each one has one or two unique things that the other doesn't have. None of it is totally earth shattering. So often it comes down to price, and SpyFu is …
Chose SpyFu
I spent years exclusively using Semrush for this kind of competitor PPC data, and have used Moz in the past on several occasions. I feel that SpyFu is more well-rounded and provides deeper insights than these other products, and honestly, it's just more updated as well. Easier …
Chose SpyFu
SpyFu has what we needed from Semrush, and Spyfu is more reasonably priced. Spyfu does not have some of the higher level and specific tools, but is great for the price.
Chose SpyFu
Spyfu fails to hit the mark at least when it comes to SEO since both Ahrefs and Semrush has a bigger directory and fetches data from more countries than Spyfu does, however Spyfu offers a great deal when it comes to cost effective solution to almost every digital marketing …
Chose SpyFu
Compared to Semrush or Ahrefs, neither of the competitors stacks up against SpyFu in terms of competitor insight of paid ad performance. It can even identify specific ad copy changes, which can be crucial for high-demand periods like Black Friday. In my opinion, SpyFu is an …
Chose SpyFu
I was surprised to find I preferred Semrush when it comes to keyword research. SpyFu is great (and less expensive than Semrush), but I felt the data Semrush provided was vaster than SpyFu. I was able to get more competitors spending insights in Semrush than SpyFu. Overall, I …
Chose SpyFu
SpyFu is more cost-effective than both (Ahrefs and Semrush), but we have to compromise on the data's accuracy. However, the data reporting and user interface of SpyFu make it easy to decipher. For Paid Ads keyword lookup, we prefer SpyFu to any other tool maybe, because it's …
Chose SpyFu
It's a great little tool that offers pretty much everything you can get from Moz or Semrush at a fraction of the cost. My company uses a few different tools but I always come back to SpyFu because it is so easy to use and their build-in reporting is great.
Chose SpyFu
I've used Semrush as well. Semrush does organic SEO analysis better than SpyFu and backlink research. I find the data more intuitive. I much prefer SpyFu for their advertising/PPC analysis and use SpyFu when researching competitors' advertising campaigns. These are the main two …
Chose SpyFu
I use Ahrefs for Site audit, Keyword Research, Backlink analysis, and some parts of competitor analysis. SpyFu I always wanted to keep primary, but it's not doable with the limitation of their database, which forces me to use Ahrefs for that reason.
Chose SpyFu
SpyFu offers the best keyword research platform out there. I have used this for many companies that are still using this tool today. It's always been one of my first marketing software recommendations to companies I work with. For those who understand digital marketing such as …
Chose SpyFu
I would say that the above tools each offer their own unique skillset to be able to enhance what we find with SpyFu. For competitive analysis at a low cost point SpyFu really follows through on the promise of delivering actionable competitive insights with additional tools that …

Majestic SEO
Majestic is a really great tool if your company is spending considerable resources on ongoing SEO efforts. In general, Majestic isn't for beginner SEO users, but a more advanced tool to get into deep SEO tactics. I would recommend this for agencies that have a significant investment in SEO. If you're a small team or a small business looking to improve SEO for yourself or company, there are platforms that offer a variety of tools for new to moderate expertise.

This is suited to plan for keywords in a single market, but it struggles when you need to consolidate several markets. It is well-suited to discover new keywords directly related to the ones being used currently to expand the content the company is creating to get better results.

If you have a Google ads PPC campaign and then I would say this is more or less essential if you want to know what your competitors are doing. You can get very useful data out of it even if you subscribe for one month. And the pricing is very reasonable. Even if you don't use Google ads, I would say this is still useful for your SEO/SMO team since it gives you a great idea of what keywords and traffic your competitors are working on.

Pros
Majestic SEO
  • I like Majestic's own metrics Trust and Citation flow, that are very representative of the real value of the website and it's potential effect on the rankings of the website it's linking to.
  • Also, theme (topic) of the website is very useful in the backlink report. This allows to easily identify backlinks relevant to your business.
  • The index of number of backlinks that is provided by Majestic is usually a lot bigger than the indexes of their competitors.
  • Lost link tracker is very useful for tracking dropped links of your projects (you can verify and track multiple domains). This allows to keep track on how many of your ads and articles stay live and sometimes we contact publishers to tell them that their changes on the website (i.e. updates) caused our article or link to go down.

  • Great visuals for keyword position tracking, love that you can see the page that is ranking
  • Enjoyed the auto-generated reporting feature (specifically in the context of keyword position tracking)

  • Great templated keyword research tools for those who are not as hands-on with SEO
  • I LOVE the Keyword Magic Tool for honing in on longtail, high-opportunity keywords

Cons
Majestic SEO
  • Its API for developers and big companies sometime don't give the actual data.
  • Rank tracker is not 100% accurate, but you can create a rough estimate by the report.
  • Backlink history is also missing some links, but I found them mostly.
  • Sometimes site explorer does not give the actual report, so you should check manually too.

Once you've grown accustomed to the depth and accuracy of Majestic's crawl, it's hard to consider paying for anything else (or settling for free options). The interface is a little less intuitive than it could be. The data is often available but filtering and manipulating the data can be a little difficult at times.
