What is Lansweeper?

Lansweeper helps organizations see, understand, and make confident decisions about their technology estate across IT, OT, IoT, and Cloud. Lansweeper automatically discovers and inventories every asset: hardware, software, and user—then connects that data to insights about usage, lifecycle, and risk. This is to create what the vendor describes as Technology Asset Intelligence (TAI): a trusted foundation of knowledge that turns raw inventory data into clear, actionable understanding.

• With this intelligence, IT, Security, and Finance teams can:
• Eliminate blind spots and security gaps.
• Identify cost-saving and optimization opportunities.
• Support audits, migrations, and strategic planning with confidence.
• Align decisions across teams using one reliable source of truth.

Lansweeper began as visibility tool and is now positioned as a decision-making platform. According to the vendor, it is used by more than 20,000 organizations worldwide, including CMA CGM, Rentokil, Fiskars, Nestlé, and Nvidia, to turn technology data into business advantage.

Lansweeper provides great details

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Lansweeper does a great job of scanning our network and providing data on our equipment. For example a desktop PC or laptop can be scanned and you are provided a detailed breakdown of peripherals, software, and hardware. It gives a quick snapshot with both high and low levels of information. Another great feature is that is can show switch information along with what is connected to all ports.

Pros

  • Gives me high and low level details of desktop or laptop - software, hardware, peripherals
  • I can see switches and what is connected to each port along with MAC and vlan information
  • I have the ability to install/uninstall software
  • I can filter by domain, type of equipment, operating system, etc...

Cons

  • Some of the installs need exact switches
  • Sometimes it takes a while for a new machine to show up in Lansweeper

Return on Investment

  • It has a track on the pulse of our assets
  • Keeps an eye on network

Lansweeper - ITs Best Partner

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Super tool to sweep our LAN to find IT assets. Anything from computers, servers, switches and printers etc to even screens connected to the computers. It helps us easily see what is connected to our LAN and even on which switch ports it is connected.

Pros

  • Asset Management
  • Sweeping the network
  • Find asset details broken down to component level
  • Software and license management

Cons

  • The cloud part/component is confusing - not very clear how and where to use it.

Return on Investment

  • Positive - it helps us a lot with asset lifecycle management
  • Easily helps us to identify who has an IT asset
  • Easily see who is connected to what switch and to map it back to a device/user

Lansweeper Review

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I use Lansweeper as endpoint identification on our network, we wanted to have a current list of addressable items at any time. Lansweeper simplified that, and would identify items that other tools weren't reporting. This helped fill a need for some cybersecurity needs that we were required to adhere to.

Pros

  • Asset identification
  • easy web GUI
  • Detailed asset attributes

Cons

  • Could use a clearer menu layout
  • the notifications at the bottom can become overwhelming
  • licensing updates and asset limits are not intuitive

Return on Investment

  • Adherence to cybersecurity
  • timesavings from collecting asset attributes
  • quicker troubleshooting with this information readily available

Good product - value for money for larger organisations

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Lansweeper is great took for asset management, we use it to track our laptops, desktops, phones and tablets and it works great with our ITSM and InTune. It makes asset tracking and management much easier. It helps us determine which laptops are not being used, track the major updates and unregistered software.

Pros

  • Its very accurate
  • Easy to use
  • easy to integrate with other relevant software

Cons

  • Their asset comments section is not indexable - if you leave a comment on certain assets you cant search for it - you have to open the asset properties and read the comment
  • The price could be lower
  • Sometimes you get false positives where drivers show as unlicensed software

Return on Investment

  • Its not easy to quantify but it helps a lot in day to day IT asset management
  • Probably helped us avoid potential security issues by showing what needs updating/patching or removing from the network
  • Probably saved us money by forcing the managers to return devices that are not in use more promptly
