  • It's fast, very very fast.
  • Dual controllers built-in so nothing goes down when we lose a controller.
  • Data dedupe, so we are not growing and will have plenty of space.
  • Better active design.
  • The cost of the product is a little high but it is well worth it.
  • They do not have a NAS front end.

  • Easy to manage. When compared to HP EVA the GUI and the available options are logical and easy to understand. Our administrator needed very little to none training to use it.
  • Low Latency and high throughput. Normal business operation is around 20K IOPS and < 1 MS.
  • Support. Knowledge engineers that will ' stay with you' till the issue is resolved and provide assistance even when the root cause is a, for example, a faulty transceiver in an FC Switch or an MPIO issue on AIX.
  • Pure1 portal provides enough information for basic capacity planning and the new VM Topology is helpfull to quickly get information about which VM Vdisk is having latency issues.
  • Excellent integration with VEEAM. For example, using the VEEAM console we can restore a file from any of about 130 snapshots that we take on the SAN.
  • The portal provides some basic information on the deduplication and compression ratios but is not very helpful when troubleshooting a sudden increase in utilization.

  • Fast
  • Works extremely well in a virtualized environment.
  • The snapshot capabilities allow for easy creation of a test environment that takes very little extra space.
  • The support is awesome.
  • The ability to update the controller to the latest firmware with no downtime.
  • I have not run across a con to using Pure.

  • Management/Admin software - Unlike legacy storage platforms, PF's administration is simple and flexible. We no longer require an SME, all engineers can manage the arrays with a high degree of confidence.
  • Excellent support organization - Pure requires very little engagement from the customer for issues. Simple email communications will address %100 of our issues.
  • Evergreen program - Allows it's customers to upgrade to a new storage head assuring they can take advantage of Pure's technology road map.
  • Cars Inc has always been interested in a file storage solution. However, the Flash Blade has lacked built-in replication.

The best Flash Array

  • Support: the support is excellent. You can call or open a case using the web, and you always have someone willing to help, even if it's just a question or a complicated issue. Even with issues with other vendors, you can feel there is someone interested in helping you to solve the problem.
  • Easy to use: The GUI is really intuitive and easy to use. There are a lot of videos and documents to guide you through.
  • Performance: We have more than a year of managing these arrays, and we don't have any issues with performance.
  • Some of the options at the GUI need some warnings. Even if you are supposed to know what are you doing, some warning or questions, such as "are you sure you want to do this," are always welcome.
  • I would like to have a training class. It's good to have all the online training, but if you are taking the course on your laptop, there is always someone needing something, I'd rather have personal training where you can disconnect, provide your full attention, and receive feedback to your question at the moment.

  • The Pure Storage solution handles upgrades very well. We have both updates and upgrades in place with no outage or impact to our systems. This included hardware and software events.
  • The management is very simple and straightforward. There are so complex options or need for Pure SMEs every time a storage change is needed.
  • VMWare integration is simple and effective. You can use one screen to manage your complete environment.
  • Initial expense. Although the solution with the recommended support had higher upfront costs, the ROI has been excellent.
  • Limited NAS support, although there are options to enable support for file protocols.

  • It hosts our virtual machines with great performance.
  • It's used for RDMs to attach to clustered VMs.
  • It's easy to manage and configure volumes, and connect to VM hosts and host groups.
  • De-dupe works very well and results in great space savings.
  • The ability to present CIFS/SMB storage is lacking, but I believe this is being addressed very soon.

  • Ease of use - The general layout and order of operations is very logical, unlike a Hitachi array.
  • The functionality of the API and CLI is very intuitive and easy to learn.
  • Utilizing support for upgrades and repair.
  • The initial configuration of the flash array is a real pain point. The need for physical presence to configure things is burdensome and slow. We would prefer to connect a serial connection and configure remotely, like an Isilon cluster.

  • The FlashArray is easy to setup and maintain once it is up and running.
  • The data reduction helps increase the usable capacity of the array.
  • The speed of the array helps our application users get more from their applications.
  • The type of maintenance Pure has to cover the arrays is great.
  • The overall data reduction is dependent on the type of data you have. So, make sure your account team knows your type of data before they size the array.
  • Make sure you test the stated vendor integration with the PureArray in your environment to make sure it works as expected.
