This is a comprehensive platform that is used throughout the collection. The purpose of using the SAP HANA platform is to integrate information and output detailed reports on the performance of different departments. It is widely used in sales, marketing, human resources, and management departments. As IT Manager and Organizational Consultant, I oversee performance monitoring and consulting. For me, SAP products and introducing them to large companies is like honesty in professional business. I am not a sales representative or marketer of this company, but I like good and creative platforms and companies that have a direct impact on sales. Everything we need is summarized in one platform. We connect all the database information from different sources into this platform and everything is processed quickly and easily in intelligence. Saving time, high precision, accurate processes without human error, and reducing costs are the advantages of SAP HANA for our business.
  • Transparency in presenting the reports of each department and department puts the organization in a position of progress. The efficiency of your business will improve with greater transparency.
  • Scalability, high availability, and disaster recovery are provided by its column-based data storage and access, along with the option to provision databases.
  • It was quite difficult to implement and maintain, and the documentation is somewhat lacking.
  • Some users have difficulty understanding UX.
There are two versions of this software: cloud edition and on premise edition. Cloud edition has the best experience. You can choose the on-premise edition. Hybrid edition has best experience on both platforms. The SAP HANA platform can manage data volumes as large as a petabyte in-memory while returning query results in seconds. Although if scaled-down, this would only be feasible for certain, time-critical, use-cases.

We are from the consulting world, and we build and help implement SAP Applications for our clients. We have also implemented SAP HANA for time-sheet management and resource management for our clients. We have also addressed the problem regarding payroll and on-boarding of new hires. We have also helped in transforming clients’ ECC/Legacy systems to SAP HANA. Developed multiple CDS Views and analytical views to help them reduce costs in analysis and data management.
  • Administration.
  • It makes it very easy for the end users from the company admin to provision access and grant users authorisation to use various transactions and perform their day to day jobs very easily and seamlessly.
  • Our clients have also mentioned that the extension capabilities, i.e. customisations availed were really helpful and made it more suited to their business.
  • Analytics and Data Processing
  • Our clients business has boomed after using this feature. Their sales have gone up and their costs to market have reduced drastically.
  • They come to know exactly what market to target and the variety of users to target.
  • Security
  • The security features and integration to various IAM platforms such as Sailpoint Identity IQ, SAP IDM, SAP Cloud Administration Platform has been seamless for our clients.
  • They’ve really appreciated the security features available built into the SAP HANA platform.
  • Roles and authorisation concepts, use of CVA, use of ETD, and cloud based security solutions provided by SAP has been a boon for them.
  • These are easily integrated into the SAP HANA platform on top of the platform’s security.
  • Web IDE is too slow
  • A better way to interface with Web IDE would be a boon for all of us consultants and developers.
  • SAP HANA is only compatible with SUSE Certified hardware or SAP
  • Compatibility could be expanded.
  • Expansion in support for the existing architectures would also help reduce our costs and time to implement HANA on a massive scale.
  • At times we have faced an issue of HANA shutting down due to heavy data loads.
I would recommend SAP HANA to a colleague for the following reasons:
1. HANA is all about in-memory computing, which means that you get immediate real-time results.
2. HANA has many advantages such as mass data, agility, total cost of ownership, any data type processing etc.
3. HANA empowers the business user as opposed to the developer.
4. HANA is available as a physical box. Hence this makes you feel secure that you have all your data under your control.
5. HANA helps a lot in predictive analysis and also has an analytical library.
6. iPad apps that are built on the HTML5 platform can connect directly to HANA.
7. HANA is available on the cloud and also has a mobility platform.

For these reasons, SAP HANA is one of the best an enterprise can work with.

SAP HANA was used to train on the business analytics subject. It is being only used for the education training purpose by the department.
  • Most importantly, real time connectivity the SAP.
  • Fast - because of the in-memory database.
  • Better connectivity between ERP and HANA.
  • It might require change in architecture to make it compatible with HANA.
I found the processing of the analytics was very fast and it helps make real time decisions on the tips.

SAP HANA is being used as a relational database management system to store and extract data as and when needed by the applications. The SAP HANA standard edition provides services related to database, application and integration, series data, dynamic tiering, and more additional features. It address the systematic computational analysis of data or statistics through advanced analytics (streaming analytics option, spatial/graph option, search/text option, predictive option).
  • Multi Store Tables - allowing to store data in default store and extended store as per data ageing.
  • In Production Environment it allows same host deployments (Hana host + Dynamic Tiering). No need to have separate dedicated server for each of them.
  • Incremental and differential backups - Reducing backup times and storage requirements.
  • Implementing SRS patches incurs significant cost to upgrade the existing system.
  • It runs only in Linux Environment. Does not compatible in other OS.
  • The older version gets outdated more often due to frequent SPS updates and releasing enhanced SAP HANA’s versions.
SAP Hana has well suited for our applications as a primary data repository. One of the reliable and powerful DBMS with lot of advanced features of analytics and data privacy. It also provides ETL Capabilities (Extract , Transform and Load) as an application server. The maintenance cost is low with minimal development activities.

SAP HANA is one of the best and powerful tools for enterprise data management. We used it for ETL (extract, transform, load) and calculations. We were satisfied with the speed of each of those activities. The in-memory capabilities of SAP Hana has increased the performance of the time taken reports. We had moved away from a lot of the third-party databases and applications and it's allowed the consolidation of multiple systems.
  • Real Time Analytics along with fast operating speed
  • Very good Customer support
  • The read actions of Queries and aggregations are very fast
  • There is still not standard solution for Business Partners migration
  • Too heavy on end user machines , it hangs when you will use many other applications
  • It can be extended to integrate with few more other non-SAP data sources
1.It's scalable, stable, and easy to use.
2. Financial applications that can be built based on SAP HANA as it has Robust applications.
3.It gives faster and real-time results. The analytical process and transactional process run in the same place.
4. SAP HANA also comes with HANA Studio. So it provides users to build reports, joins, calculation views without putting development effort.

Our organization made a migration from SAP B1 to SAP Hana based on our user feedback that data retrieval time is not smooth and is consuming a lot of time which indirectly was reducing their efficiency. Hence to make a positive impact on the employee feed back we decided to migrate to SAP HANA being aware of the additional cost and IT infrastructure in mind .We were also aware that the current trend is focusing on cloud hence we were aware at one point we had to migrate to HANA. Our Enterprise ERP was utilizing an Oracle db since the onset of our organization ,i.e 20 plus years. Hence a simple query would be searching more than 10 mil records at any point in time which was responsible for the slow operating speed of SAP B1 .Thus keeping in mind the overall data retrieval speed in mind we decided to go ahead HANA.
  • A switch to columnar Database
  • Support for GUI in connected SAP application User interface
  • A highly effective data fetching algorithm
  • It's a really expensive solution
  • Switching from B1 To HANA ensured that the old infrastructure had to be rebuilt from scratch piling the infra costs
Extremely fast paced data recovery owing to the columnar Database algorithm.
Provides a good user interface with GUI which helped us heavily in our automation needs while enabling selectors
Supports Mobile apps
Disadvantages
Old hardware had to be scrapped
The infrastructure will be a one time high investment and the licensing cost will be recurring keeping in mind the no of users involved

SAP HANA is used by the consulting team, in cases where the client already has the SAP HANA and we need to deliver visions and database integration for different areas of the company, like marketing, sales and finance team.
  • In-memory Database.
  • Friendly Reporting.
  • Management.
  • Scalability.
  • Hard process to implementation.
  • Price starts high and scale.
  • Could be Improve the hardware compatibility.
SAP HANA is great for data modeling, creating a data warehouse and for storing data from many areas of the company. It is great for meeting reporting and analytics needs for different finance, sales, purchasing, billing, marketing teams. Sap HANA may not have such an appropriate cost-benefit for your business. It is important to understand the entire technology stack and not to adhere to a high-priced tool without first thinking about migrations.

My Organization Utilizes SAP HANA for varied purposes be it Employee Payroll, Creating PO & SO. The Production Department uses it to leverage & compile the comprehensive end of the month consumptions & production reports. This Tool has been helping us to keep our different Inter-Related processes unified & in sync with each other. Its advanced analytics capabilities are making our lives easier & our job simpler.
  • Real Time Analytics along with fast operating speed
  • Scalability & easy transitioning
  • Great Disaster recovery Support
  • Cloud Availability
  • Prompt & courteous Customer Support
  • Unavailability Of Proper Documentations for easy walkthroughs.
  • Initial setup & configuration can be a bit confusing if there isn't a expert assistance at start.
  • Pricing can be made more flexible & affordable for small business.
SAP HANA is most suited to the organizations having to deal with a large volume of data & transactions which has multiple cross-platform teams involved working in sync with each other. Faster Data processing will come in handy in scenarios like the one mentioned above.
It might not be a good option for those looking to achieve data visualization tasks in terms of tables & charts.

SAP HANA is a business intelligence platform and a suite of business intelligence tools that enables businesses to attain their goals. It provides flexible reporting and analysis tools to support businesses in evaluating and interpreting data, as well as facilitating its distribution. Businesses are able to make well-founded decisions and determine target-orientated activities on the basis of this analysis. SAP HANA is a combination of databases and database management tools that are used to support management decision making and management information reporting.
  • Near real-time data replication
  • Data exploration over longer time periods for trend detection
  • Diagnostic analysis of granular data without the need to download and manipulate it in other tools
  • Business self-service ability to develop and change reports
  • SAP HANA and Sybase do not handshake properly (e.g., if we load data into SAP HANA and in parallel execute the NLS offloading job, there is a serious performance issue).
  • Unfortunately there is a system stability issue when the data size (large number of nodes/server) is bigger.
  • Issues due to the dependent softwares--like OS-connected reporting tools
SAP HANA is flexible, data-source-agnostic appliance that enables customers to analyze large volumes of SAP ECC data in real time, avoiding the need to materialize transformations. HANA database is the heart of SAP's in-memory technology offering, helping customers to improve their operational efficiency, agility, and flexibility.

SAP HANA is used across the whole organization. CRM, ECC, and BW systems are used to manage and assist with the supply chain, the daily warehouse and manufacturing operations and to manage customers and provide insights about the sales from our advisors, contact center, and retail points. We also use it to analyze data in order to forecast sales and plan budgets and supplies.
  • Managing supply chain
  • Managing customers
  • Business Intelligence
  • Can be complex
  • Resource demanding
  • Can be expensive
I would recommend SAP HANA to those who want to manage their all business process using a single suite of products that is well integrated. SAP HANA is an excellent CRM to manage customers' information. It also does a great job in planning resources and is ideal to analyze data with the goal of managing the supply chain in a more efficient way.

SAP HANA is used in my organization to perform ETL operation and to generate results for analytical activity. We get data from big Data servers we process it, and SAP HANA generates reports. It works on real-time data on the fly--the beauty of on-the-fly processing is that it solves our real-time data analytics activity issue.
  • In-memory database
  • On-the-fly feature
  • Queries and aggregations--the read actions are very fast
  • It is the best business solution (especially ERP)
  • It is very expensive
  • HTML analytical editor needs to improve
SAP HANA was built as an in-memory database from the start--a technological leap ahead of other databases. This is an advantage because the vast amount of memory is greater and more affordable than what is available elsewhere. For queries and aggregations the read actions are very fast, so when we need to perform very fast calculations or calculations on the fly, SAP HANA is the best fit.

SAP HANA is used throughout the whole organisation as leading database, particularly warehouse management, where we can make quick and efficient decisions. As the product is multi into memory, it's hard to beat it's proformance with other products which was a deciding factor when we purchased [SAP] HANA, along with real time analytics and reduction in MRP times.
  • Proformance - MRP times reduced
  • Report / Analytics - real time decisions made easy
  • Easy to use export / excel integration
  • Scalability
  • Support - hard to find resources online so you are often dealing with an issue for a while.
  • UI could be more intuative, takes a while to get use to or train users.
  • Using a couple of models can make it not respond effectively.
  • Doesn't support text data type.
You can quickly get the data you want. It would be well suited to a manufacturing company who wishes to reduce MRP times in their ERP. It's a SAP product, so will suit companies who use other SAP products or have time to learn as resources are limited online. It would suit large companies willing to dedicate time and money.

We have two different HANA installations. One for SAP GRC and another database for SAP BI. These two HANA databases are serving the whole organization as both GRC and BI are core elements of the IT infrastructure.
  • It is as fast as promised
  • It is a very good foundation for integrating SAP technologies with non-SAP
  • SAP is constantly providing new updates to it, so it is easy to keep it updated
  • The whole branding strategy, so many different names and the constant rebranding of the same concepts
  • Enhancements in the XSA platform
  • Alignment between the Cloud and on-premise solutions
It's well suited when performance is key, specifically from the front end perspective. When using it for GRC and you want to build complex CCM controls, HANA is the only way to go. We run complex queries with more than 6 billion rows involved in less than 2 minutes.

We’re using SAP HANA as a database for a custom web app. The application performs thousands of calculations per day, all requiring some level of database query. We needed a fast, reliable database for this application.
  • Great documentation
  • Large community
  • Easy integration
  • Cost
  • Limited compatibility
SAP HANA processes large amounts of data very efficiently and very quickly. It allows for parallel processing, which speeds up everything you are trying to do while interacting with the database. If planning to connect to an ERP system, beware, as there may be some compatibility issues that require some architecture changes. Depending on the scale of your systems, this may or may not be problematic, but something to keep in mind.

[SAP] HANA is used across all functional areas. Pre Hana response rates were slow, however. [SAP] HANA has resolved this issue. [SAP HANA] allows extraction of data to make better and faster decisions.
  • [SAP] HANA provides faster access to data where BW AFO is implemented
  • [SAP] HANA provides faster query runs on transactional queries within SAP.
  • [SAP] HANA provides features which allow easier access to set variables easily and quickly
  • [SAP] HANA generally processes queries much faster as there is a reduced module rate
  • [SAP] HANA variable setting process can be improved by better menus
  • [SAP] HANA response rate for larger queries with lower granularity could be improved
  • Some options still available by right clicking , better to have in ghf display pane.
[SAP] HANA is well suited where volume of data can easily be extracted in excel (eg. Via AFO) or exported through transaction queries. Would be great if some kind of visualization tool is available in [SAP] HANA so not always necessary to export to excel to drive better and faster decision making.

SAP HANA is an in-memory database. Therefore, its data retrieval is very fast and efficient. SAP HANA is being used in my organization as well as with our business partner to develop, maintain, enhance and support SAP HANA views. Primarily, we are handling SAP HANA calculation views. Generally there comes the problem of enhancements in various SAP HANA views, be it adding a new column or some logic that needs to be embedded in views. As SAP HANA is a very powerful product being provided by SAP, it is being used within the whole of the company to support various projects of our business partners.
  • Faster data retrieval process, as the whole of the data is stored in RAM
  • Efficient way of storing data in the form of column store and row store.
  • Data compression techniques are advantageous. Therefore a large amount of data can be easily stored and managed.
  • SAP HANA on its own is a very powerful product provided by SAP. But I think SAP HANA can improve a bit in providing parallel activations for the views being worked on by multiple users
  • SAP HANA can improve in terms of heaviness of the desktop version, as sometimes it gets stuck and becomes very slow.
  • SAP HANA can innovate more and add more functionalities, keeping in view the common business problems or issues that we encounter across multiple projects involving SAP HANA. If this is done, common issues or roadblocks encountered in SAP HANA can be speedily resolved.
SAP HANA would be well suited to a scenario like when we have to work on large amount of data. We need to process the data efficiently and we need to retrieve the data fast. We can create various SAP HANA views and store them in the repository.

SAP HANA would be less suited to a situation when users want to create data visualizations in terms of charts or dashboards and want to make the dashboards more interactive. We would need another front-end reporting tool provided by SAP (e.g., SAP BI/BO). In this situation, SAP HANA would be lacking, as we wouldn't be able to create very meaningful and interactive data visualizations through SAP HANA.

We have used different SAP HANA deployments in our testing environment:

Native SAP HANA:
In this deployment, we have developed a SQL Data Warehouse solution in SAP HANA, showing the benefit of using SAP HANA as a SQL Data Warehouse solution, if a department has not many SAP source systems as well as previous SQL skills from another vendor.

SAP BW/4HANA resp. SAP BW on HANA:
In this deployment, we have developed our Data Warehouse solution in our BW system, showing the benefit of using SAP HANA as a database for BW systems, if a department has mainly SAP source systems as well as SAP knowledge.
  • Best integration with SAP systems.
  • Fast in-memory technology.
  • Single node / scale-out deployments to support any sizing requirement.
  • Great High Availability & Disaster Recovery support.
  • Mature product.
  • Licensing might be a bit confusing.
  • Fast hardware is required.
SAP HANA and Business Warehouse are a perfect match for leveraging the speed of SAP HANA. It is the technology to go for if SAP source systems are used for easy data integration. Further, with SAP HANA Smart Data Integration (SDI) a great possibility is offered in order to integrate various heterogeneous data sources in (near) Real-Time, Batch or Virtual.

My company purchased SAP HANA to help bring our entire International organization under one roof, so to speak. It is an on going process that has taken two plus years and will continue to grow as we add more divisions. Due to the Pandemic we have not been adding any divisions but it is still in the works. Meanwhile, we use it every day.
  • SAP is able to include other software like LCR Dixon, for example.
  • It has brought us closer to our International offices.
  • SAP has been simple to convert and learn. User friendly.
  • Getting information uploaded to the master data has been long and difficult.
  • The security for who has rights to certain processes is very tight.
  • The password protection is also very tight but can be joined with your log in info.
For me, I love how SAP allows me to create reports from data that has been entered from several different departments, making it easier for end of the month reporting and audits. What took several days in the past to create can be done in only minutes which leaves more time for analysis.

As a consultant, I implement business scenarios in SAP HANA. At my current project, we implement solutions based on BWonHANA and use SAP HANA developments for more complex use cases, e.g. where we need to join various sources (and/or) texts together or need to do some sort of pre-selection/ranking based on certain measures. For this we use calculation views. We currently do not use HANA for XS applications.
  • Graphic view modelling.
  • Easy joins and unions.
  • Easily calculate new columns.
  • Better input parameter functionalities.
  • Code auto-fill in formula editor.
  • Simpler authorization/role concepts.
SAP HANA is well suited for more complex business use cases where different data needs to be joined together from various sources or if there are some pre-conditions/queries that need to be executed to return a reduced data output. It is also well suited to apply out-of-the-box machine learning algorithms from AFL/PAL library directly within BW/HANA ecosystem.

We were working on a supply chain project for a customer where we have build applications on top of the data that is dependent on SAP, as well as a third-party application. 3rd party application data varies quite frequently, which has a huge set of master data and can be accessed via files. We brought this data to SAP HANA on a cloud platform, which gave us access to unify data coming from ECC and 3rd party. It also provided the capability to server better user experience for accessing this data via Fiori applications.
  • Ability to access SAP and non SAP data at one place.
  • Performance
  • Data level access with the help access control.
  • Multiple versions of HANA.
  • Unique and Nice to see Container concepts like HDI, but there's a learning curve.
  • Sometimes unable to understand best practices when looking at performance.
For our use case, we would confidently say SAP HANA was the best-suited approach, as it simplifies the process in consuming SAP and Non-SAP data for applications. However, modeling is very important in HANA. If you are looking at scenarios like storing the images, then this might not be a good choice. We do have to store multiple images for each material for our application provided by the 3rd party that we are leveraging a document storage solution for, but we did tie the links into our HANA data. Similarly, if you are looking for a time-series database I probably would not recommend this too, instead, look for something like Influx or Prometheus.
