SAP Business Lumira is a powerful tool for building Dashboard reports for Top management. It can be used to display reports with interactive charts. Very useful for any kind analysis top management. The multiple option to retrieve data from Excel, SQL etc. is very helpful. Also the inbuilt analytics and formula's are very useful. Option to Share the reports on cloud securely is helpful for customers. The speed of retrieving report data using queries is also very good. It is functionally easy to understand and it's easy to use the tool.
  • Report retrieval Speed is good
  • Nice options to design the report with parameters (Single or Multiple)
  • Easy to understand and use it
  • Multiple Data source options for Report data
  • Share Report Preview on Cloud
  • Unable to change PIE Chart Colors
It is well suitable for all Top management reports. With these report Dashboards one can find useful analysis data

Lumira is used by our organization for marketing and operations sales dashboards. Connecting multiple sources of data was easy. Creating different visualization that conveyed data in attractive formats enabled us to start utilizing the data in a matter of few days.
  • Simplicity of preparing data, setting up a few visualization models and then creating a stoy board.
  • Mulitple graphing & chart options.
  • Need more data connectivity & ability to connect to good analytics or other commonly used data sources.
  • More transformation options. For example connect 2 data sources, merge a few attributes and create visualization.
SAP BusinessObjects Lumira is well suited for:

  • marketing & operations sales dashboards
  • different visualization that conveyed data in attractive formats

It is not being used at all. I evaluated it for purchase but it is not nearly as good as Tableau or even PowerBI. I found it very frustrating and useless. Seems like the goal is to focus on users with HANA - which we don't have.
  • Connections to BusinessObjects Universes
  • Mapping/plotting data was poor at best
  • Number of rows was too small for the analysis
  • Publishing required more licenses (I guess if you have a lot of budget to waste...you might like it).
Connecting to a BusinessObjects Universe. Makes it easier to avoid SQL coding for the less adept users

As an option for use within SAP BI Platform for Data Exploration visualisations across the whole organisation. Allowing data to be manipulated and questions to be asked of it beyond standard reporting tools.
  • Integrates with SAP BI Platform Universes
  • Integrates with SAP BI Platform front end
  • Visual impact over WebIntelligence.
  • End User experience is not as refined or as focused as some competitors.
  • Not as feature rich as some competitors yet.
If you already have a SAP BI Suite licence which includes Lumira it is a good starting point for testing Data Exploration use cases. Reuse of existing Universes defined within a larger SAP BI system is also a beneficial scenario. A BI Platform you can publish visualisations to will help get the information out to wider audiences in a controlled way.

I used it in project for a non-profit in Raleigh, North Carolina. I used the product to geographically visualize the current need the non-profit was serving and used a model to visualize the estimated need. I also used various bar charts and other graphs for a presentation to the managers.
  • Data source integration was really easy, it populated the data columns as the appropriate fields.
  • Drag and drop functionality made it really easy to visualize data many ways.
  • Storyboard was a nice feature to compile all of the visualizations into an easily presentable format.
  • The geographic maps could be a little more exact. It would be nice to overlay counties within a state.
  • There could be better graphics to embed into the bar charts.
  • Making the storyboard link to PowerPoint would be awesome.
It's a good all around business software. It would be well suited for beginner to intermediate experience with visualization software.

SAP BusinessObjects Lumira is being used across the organization at the executive level for bench marking and performance comparison across the Health Care IT.
  • Integrating the SAP Lumira in SAP BI platform is a greater scope for Enterprise level reporting.
  • Hyperlinking webi reports in SAP Lumira storyboard for granular level of data analysis takes this to the next level in the performance Intelligence world.
  • SAP Lumira Data set sharing is another advantage to share the analyzed data sets across the organization or can be needed by other applications to capture the snapshot of analyzed and aggregated or detail level of data.
  • As a self-service BI tool, will give scope to the business executives across the organization to make data driven business decisions.
  • It will be good to have a hyperlink between 2 different data set stories or visualizations.
  • Creating a variables should have been more matured functionality, Lumira multi-sessions capability, More Visualizations formatting features, Scope for object level security.
Since it is a self-service tool, users need an extensive training about how the data sets are captured. SAP Lumira is really useful where there is an efficient data model available for the data savvy.

This is a great program to do initial visualization and analysis. Its simple enough that almost anyone can use it and be able to tease out some of the more detailed complexities of a dataset. It should cover all but the most complicated business scenarios and it has the advantage of close integration with SAP data sources. It's certainly worth a look by anyone considering a new visualization option.

I would note that it took a bit of horsepower on my system but that isn't unusual for visualization products such as this one. In general, the interaction was smooth but I would recommend running this with at least 8GB of RAM. It does run well under a virtual machine (Parallels, in this case).

  • Good for dumping it in and exploring the data.
  • Nice job of presenting options for visualization.
  • Decent output format.
  • Some of the dimension capabilities are buried under a weird menu system. One particular visualization required a particular order.
  • The online version is disappearing.
Well suited for initial data exploration. It takes a bit of getting used to but it has a relatively easy learning curve. They could really use some video lesson support for the product but please don't do the canned "non-examples" but go for some real interesting visualizations and then show how to build them.

We are still evaluating Lumira for our data visualization needs across many SBU's in DuPont. The goal is to have business leaders use it for analytics and reduce the need to rely on static BW Reports. The benefit as we see it is to provide a user friendly tool that business people can easily use to see and interpret data.

It's a great tool and provides good visualizations, user friendly like BO. Overall we like to use it for our business.
  • Handling massive data and quick response
  • One of the advantages is that we are able to integrate with ESRI Map, which is great
  • Easy to build your own dashboard without IT resources
  • Dashboard layout part could have been better,
  • What if analysis part is missing from the dashboard
SAP Lumira is well suited for self service and quick analysis

To create easy to use dashboard alternatives by business users themselves like the adhoc webi report creation. This provides a very quick visualization to understand the data faster than going through the actual data in tables and spread sheets. Sales forecast, revenue recognition are the couple of initial uses which convinced users to adopt this self service BI tool.
  • Good integration with existing BI platform
  • Easy to learn with experience of previous SAP BI tools
  • Improvement needed on the data manipulation
  • Improvement to front end design to match the competitor products in the same space
Good for organizations who already have SAP BI platform, but struggles in other organizations.

Our global organization is moving towards a much more a self service BI oriented model and environment. Our business is ever changing rapidly and needs to keep up with the market reality. Many new segments or pockets of opportunities need to be tracked and measured by the business. They often need to merge internal and external data. Lumira has been evaluated in that scope.
  • the learning curve is quite low as it follows the same look and feel as other SAP products
  • creating new data sets is done easily
  • connecting to SAP BW
  • Working with SAP BW queries where downloading the information requires too much memory
  • Visualizing the data should come quicker, not having to go through the data prep.
  • Building dashboards and visualizations should be easier and quicker with less steps
Lumira is well suited for scenarios where you need to connect to BW data and add some new data and push it back to a HANA table to be then consumed for either a POC or limited group of people. It's not as well suited for quick and easy visualizations to share and gain insights.

We used SAP Lumira as the front-end reporting solution for a data warehouse built to support alumni development and advancement at a small Nova Scotia University. It addresses the problem of using Excel for reporting, when a much more flexible and visual solution is available.
  • I love how Lumira allows connections to many leading industry OLE databases and data marts. It provides a much simpler way of performing reporting straight from the data source, opposed to connecting to a flat file or spreadsheet.
  • The geo-overlaying and GIS capabilities of Lumira impressed me quite a bit. I thoroughly enjoyed playing around with the maps, and it was very useful for making insights into trends when the data was geodriven.
  • The UI made for an incredibly easy learning experience. Any business end user can use this tool, with little to no assistance from IT.
  • A little less ambiguity about certain functions may help. Perhaps when you hover over a button there could be a little info note that explains what the function does.
  • Arranging the dashboards and labels with more independence would be nice!
Very well suited anywhere from basic reporting for small businesses to advanced analytics used by departments in major enterprises. For very small data sets, Excel or something may work better - but if comfortable with Lumira it works great.

SAP BOBJ Lumira is being used enterprise wide.It is being used by the management for the most part.

The limitation we have with Lumira is that not all the features are available when we integrate in with SAP BW.

Microsoft Excel users are thrilled to have it as an input source.

  • Lumira does very well with MS excel as input. Ease of use and additional features are impressive.
  • ESRI map integration is one of the biggest strength.
  • Integration with HANA and HADOOP is a big plus.
  • Drill down feature apart from geo hierarchies will be much appreciated
  • Integration with SAP BW can be improved greatly.
  • Broadcasting storyboards with refresh capability is constantly being asked for in our organization.

It is not well suited for analysts who deals with big datasets.

Well suited for reports from different sources.

Well suited for management level reporting for a quick analysis.

It is used by our organization with numerous developers working on it.

It is used by business users to build their own dashboards. It is used by them for slicing and dicing of the data.

They also use it for publishing the data to their colleagues.
  • It is an easy to use tool and does not need any technical background
  • The tool supports almost all the data sources in the current IT sector.
  • Multiple data sources can be merged to derive the conclusions
  • The charts are not very extensive
  • The formula writing is difficult in Lumira and can be improved as it is in SAP Web Intelligence.
  • A free training sessions should be given by SAP when sale the product so that companies don't have to convince users to use Lumira.
I believe that Lumira is set perfectly in the market to be successful, but if something has to be improved then it have to be inter-operability / communication among the SAP products.

SAP BusinessObjects Lumira is being used by our organization for ad-hoc reporting. Is it being used by one department in the organization but could be extended to whole organization. SAP BusinessObjects Lumira is being used for smart meter analytics across the utility companies. The purpose was to replace SAP Explorer in the long run
  • UI is not intimidating
  • Can connect to multiple data sources
  • Natively supports HANA views etc.
  • Far behind Tableau in terms of functionality
  • Not Intutive
  • Chokes with large amount of data
I don't think that version 1.27 of SAP BusinessObjects Lumira is suited for anything. If SAP adds more functionality like Tableau then it could be more suitable. Clients that already have SAP HANA , for them it might be somewhat useful but I think Cognos, Tableau etc have already built connectors to HANA so Lumira would lose the edge in that sense too.

I implemented Lumira for one of my clients. It was used as reporting tool for a limited number of users. It was mainly used by sales folks where they wanted to analyze sales data. There were some canned reports also which the users are accessing through launch pad. The tool (Lumira) is very intuitive and can be learned very easily by anyone without any prior IT background. It helped the sales folks get insight about their customers, the price points they are selling, the material etc.
  • Tightly integrated with SAP BI landscape.
  • Very Intutive
  • Cheap Licence Fees Compared to other competitive BI tools
  • Integration with Cloud
  • Quick Sharing
  • Quick Development
  • Good for Analysis
  • Number of Charts types in Lumira seems to be less compared to other tools like Tableau / QlikView etc
  • Color Schemes are limited
  • the Table component in Lumira has limitations like we cannot export entire table components into a PDF
  • Exporting features also needs attention - Like we cannot export to Microsoft Power point
  • The overlapping of components is a tiring job. The components should adjust more dynamically on canvas.
The tool is very well suited for analytics users where they want to analyze data and share the results across the organization.

The tool is not good for EDW reporting.

It was used by business analysts. The main problem was performance. Users were uploading huge chunks of data and were trying to build advanced analytics on top of it. Lumira was not able to handle it all. We got Tableau in place and it is doing quite well.
  • Connection to BO universe is one big plus point
  • Full of bugs. Should be compatible to work with Cassandra.
Biggest competitor is Tableau. Tableau is sort of becoming answer to any traditional BI tool. It is very difficult to promote or justify a tool which is so full of bugs and less powerful than its competitors.

It is currently being used in the accounting department. It is being used to address the profitability of certain products that we offer. It is also being used to provide executive level management with summary dashboards. These dashboards allow management to see in real time what is happening with orders and production.
  • It has a little bit of a learning curve, but after some training it is a very powerful tool.
  • It makes understanding large data sets easier.
  • The dashboards are very intuitive.
  • It can be complicated to use.
  • I wish there was the ability to bring it into PowerPoint
I feel like it really shines when you can connect it live to the data set and see the dynamic updates.

Currently we use Lumira as a dashboarding and data visualization/exploration tool. It has been very helpful for analyzing data on the fly from spreadsheets and flat files.
  • Dashboards, charts, and animations look fantastic
  • Easy to import your own data and merge with other data
  • If your data has large enough cities, the geographical hierarchies that can be generated are extremely useful.
  • The main output is an infographic/story. Would like to see other ways to output the reports.
  • Only able to author content if the client is installed. Would like web based authoring capabilities.
  • Most of the time, the data you work with has to be held in memory on your local machine. This can be problematic for performance.
It well suited for people who want to see data in a visualization instead of looking at eye charts. Conversely if you need a tabular output of your data, the options are limited.

I use SAP Lumira to teach BI students about data visualization tools and technology.
  • Visualization ease of use is an industry leader.
  • The ability to segment and create derived data sets is easy and straightforward.
  • Basic transformations and cleansing is easy to learn and use.
  • Flexible joining of data sets needs improvement (currently only one direction is supported making the use of this feature awkward).
  • Adding "targets" and thresholds to visualizations is lacking.
SAP Lumira is really suitable for a heterogenous collection of data sources that needs to be mashed up into one simple presentation. It should not be used to integrated and cleanse data where significant work is required. As such, I see it as a strong desktop tool that compensates somewhat for immature or incomplete BI data sources.

Lumira is used by our organization for giving an integration product to cater to SAP Lumira users. As SAP Lumira gives better visualization, better decision making, we made a plugin to record the objects through Lumira and use it efficiently for better decision making.

Business Problems:
Amazing data visualization, make better-informed decisions on all types of business data. Start combining spreadsheet data with trusted enterprise data and share your data-driven stories.
  • SAP Lumira works perfectly well as a stand-alone data visualization tool. If you happen to possess other SAP applications in-house, it instantly becomes an all-encompassing analytics powerhouse.
  • SAP Lumira makes a near seamless jump from being an enthusiast’s pretty graphing tool to a really serious enterprise BI tool in seconds
  • Share actionable insights with enhanced business intelligence reporting
  • Combine data from multiple sources
  • Visualize data and analyze trends
  • Share infographics and data stories
  • Deliver critical information on mobile devices
  • Drive better performance with high-impact dashboards and BI applications
  • Calculated measures with distinct counts not supported on SAP Lumira Server or SAP Lumira Cloud
  • In SAP Lumira, data acquisition from SAP HANA does not support the multi-db feature
  • In SAP Lumira Cloud and SAP Lumira Server, when acquiring data from a UTF-16-encoded CSV file, an error occurs. Only UTF-8-encoded files are supported.
SAP Lumira was mainly used in marketing to analyze potential markets and histories of sales. It was initially small exercises to learn the use of SAP Lumira, which were almost unnecessary because it was so easy to use, and beyond that was an actual analysis of data. We also used it for management reports and were able to use the graphics and features to make understandable charts and graphs.

We are SAP PartnerEdge partners. We develop data and visual extensions to extend the functionality of out-of-the box functionality. Currently we offer vSQL and vOLAP data access extensions. Both vSQL and vOLAP provide a visual interface to generate queries without having to know the SQL syntax.
  • Data access to disparate data sources.
  • Data mashup.
  • Ability to explore the data on desktop and schedule the scenarios on the server side to refresh the data real-time.
  • Trusted data.
  • Extensive mobile device support.
  • Add wow factors to data visualizations.
  • Performance improvements.
  • Native data acquisition capabilities.

SAP Lumira is a simple tool for data visualizations yet very powerful. I used it for data analysis( personal use). It was used to find the trends for sales in the oil industry. SAP Lumira was used to create a detailed overview of the data along with presentations. The overview of the data helped in quicker decisions and easy comparisons.
  • SAP Lumira has very easy to use interface which makes it very easy to use and it is a big plus. Also, the tools for data alteration are appropriately placed and you need not drill down for simple options.
  • Complete overview of the data on the PREPARE tab provides you with a very good overview of the data.
  • Dashboards can be easily created.
  • Dashboards can be easily created which are simple yet attaractive.
  • Creating custom measures in SAP Lumira can be made a little more user-friendly.
  • Automatically created measures by SAP Lumira can be made more appropriate.
  • More sample report types can be added.
SAP Lumira is most fitted for the scenarios where extraction of information has to be done from raw Excel data. This tool can be used to create a nice and crisp overview, and graphs and thus helps in easy comparison of the raw data. It thus also helps in making quicker decisions.
