Social Mention has been widely used by users to track their social media mentions, tags, and campaigns across various platforms. It provides a convenient and comprehensive way to monitor online conversations about brands and topics of interest. With Social Mention, users can easily stay up-to-date with real-time data analytics on the impact of their campaigns and brand reputation on social media.

Reviewers have found the search and analysis platforms of Social Mention to be highly useful for obtaining valuable insights into their social media performance. The ability to gather and analyze data from multiple social media platforms in one place is a significant advantage. This aggregation feature allows users to gain a comprehensive understanding of user-written content related to their brand or industry, helping them make informed decisions and drive their marketing strategies.

Customers appreciate how Social Mention serves as a central hub for all their social media monitoring needs. By aggregating user-generated content from various platforms, it offers a streamlined approach to accessing information and tracking online conversations about their brand. Having all this data readily available in one platform eliminates the need to navigate through different channels, saving time and effort.

In summary, Social Mention is a powerful tool that enables users to track social media mentions, analyze campaign performance, and gain valuable insights into their brand reputation. Its ability to aggregate user-written content from multiple platforms provides a comprehensive source of information, making it an essential tool for businesses looking to monitor their online presence effectively.

Easy to use: Reviewers have found the tool to be basic and easy to navigate, making it accessible for all users. Some users appreciated its simplicity in gathering social media data without any complications or steep learning curves.

Consolidates information: Users praised the tool's ability to gather all Facebook content into one place, as searching directly on the Facebook platform was more difficult. This feature was particularly helpful for tracking their client's presence and engagement on social media, providing valuable insights about their brand.

Comprehensive monitoring capabilities: Social Mention received positive feedback for its ability to monitor various online websites that mentioned a user's brand, consolidating all the information in one platform. This allowed users to efficiently find and respond to inquiries/comments about their brand, even when there were multiple mentions scattered across different platforms.

Difficulty in Searching for Specific Information: Some users have found it challenging to search for specific information on Twitter or Facebook separately, leading to frustration and inefficiency in finding the desired content.

Limited Filtering Options: Several reviewers have expressed a desire for better filtering options to exclude unrelated brand information and focus on specific items from a certain location. The lack of comprehensive filtering capabilities has made it difficult for users to narrow down their search results effectively.

Inaccurate Data Tracking: A common complaint among users is that the real-time data tracking feature also tracks old campaign data, resulting in incorrect analysis and unreliable results. This issue undermines the trustworthiness of the software's data tracking functionality and hampers its usefulness for accurate performance evaluation.

Companies can't remove reviews or game the system. Here's why

  • Social Influence: Finds all the mentions on our brand throughout the internet
  • Reduces Social Mistakes: Helps us find and respond to inquiries/comments about our brand - which can be difficult when there are multiple mentions.
  • Scorecard: Helps keep score of the online passion for your brand.
  • Filtering - better filtering of unrelated brand info. i.e. we are only interested in @accav items from the US - not from overseas
  • Today - it helped me find a lead and respond - 2 days late but hopefully not a missed opportunity. Had responded on Twitter but they needed more followup.
  • Better customer service online - knowing that there really is monitoring.
How much time do they have to devote to monitoring the brand online? How serious are they about monitoring the brand and what other tools are they already using? Would it be helpful to have all the social media mentions in one place? And, most important is their name, or handle unique enough that social mention will pull only mentions about them. For instance Bob's Plumbing would probably get a lot of extraneous info.
Social mention is a useful tool to keep track of what is going on online regarding our brand. I recommend it to B2C companies who need to be especially responsive as a method to keep tabs on the brand without hiring a dedicated social media staff member. I find the periodic checkups on social mention to give us an impetus to keep up the good work or to make changes to increase our effectiveness online!
It doesn't work as well since we changed our name. We used to have a very unique twitter handle etc. so it was easier for social mention to find us. For folks who have unique names it's excellent if you don't it may not be that helpful.

Great PR Tool

I used Social Mention to look up certain keywords in tweets. I wanted to see the content my client was being associated with and how many tweets I could find on a specific PR initiative. The sentiment tool helped me see how my client was perceived on social media.
  • It grabs key words from tweets and lets you see the frequency of those tweets in real time.
  • It's basic and easy to use. I mainly used it for Twitter; however, it helps with Facebook searches too. Finding Facebook content without Social Mention was harder because you cannot search directly on the Facebook platform; Social Mention grabs all the content into one place.
  • The number of "unique authors" was especially helpful in providing me with more insight about my client in social media.
  • I was never able to find where I could search only Twitter or only Facebook - that could be helpful.
I mostly use it for monitoring my clients and how they're being perceived on social media. It's hard to search on these platforms by yourself and you would never be able to create a credible analysis on sentiment or strength of the content around your keywords without a tool like this. It makes monitoring easier and less time consuming.
  • Overally, it had a positive impact when we needed to get numbers and monitoring context on social media in real time. It gives a great overview while doing a deep dive into more intricate areas of social content.
I've also used GroupHigh to evaluate blogs - I like this tool because it gives me exact numbers on impressions and Twitter and Facebook followers. I can also search keywords on this database and search by location to pull blogs with the content and level of popularity/credibility I need for a project.
I love that Social Mention is so easy to use. It does not take a long time to learn how to navigate the site when you need information quickly. I don't use it as much in my new job, but I recommend it for basic monitoring and when you need social media information right away.

I have taken the liberty of using Social Mention for researching sentiment about my brand and to see what consumers are saying. It is useful to see what buzz is being said about your brand, positive or negative. It is a great tool to feed various social networks all in one site. It is also useful to see what key terms are being said about your brand or product so that you can use those same keywords on your own site.
  • Find sentiment of online buzz for your product/service/brand
  • Monitor many different online websites that are talking about your brand all in one place
  • Find keywords that are being used by consumers when they think of you
Social Mention is not for a specific scenario nor does it have a time to be more appropriate than others. Streaming all of your brand's online buzz, calculating what is being said, seeing what age/who is talking about your stuff and what they are saying and associating with is always something you should know, need to know and can use.
  • Increased our awareness of market segments
  • Increased our ability to reach out to our consumers
  • Helped to position products
  • Ice Rocket,HootSuite Pro,Topsy,Worlde
Social Mention streamed everything together, calculated my sentiment for me, allows me to filter what results I am personally looking for, extract my RSS feed and navigate to one of the channels of buzz.
It works.

  • Filters the firehose of social media data that inundates everyone worldwide daily.
  • Allows topic-based email alerts (the best feature of all).
  • Provides positive/negative sentiment and hashtags.
  • It has problems sub-filtering keywords by sentiment or by source.
  • It has no advanced features in the API addressing the problems with sub-filtering keywords by individual source (like "LA Times" or "Huffington Post").
  • When I search, I will get results by default in multiple languages.
  • It doesn't provide the power of Moreover for filtering content sources and outputting the results through API.
  • The paid-version actually had a negative ROI for us as it would sometimes feed us topically inappropriate articles and didn't allow us to filter by source so as to eliminate inappropriate blogs and inappropriate news sources (like highly politically partisan ones).
Because while it's actually a nice, free solution that can help with novice research, it needs to add a lot of the features you can get with Moreover if it is going to mature into an enterprise-level topic-based news, topic-based buzz sourcing solution.
I would recommend it for free and research usage only.

  • Social Mention does a great job of in-depth searching the internet for mentions of your subject.
  • Social Mention accurately records time of last mentions.
  • The absence of Social Mention alerts is disappointing. It was a great function.
  • Sometimes, Social Mention pulls up hits that are not particularly what I was searching for--even when using advanced search. It's hard to sift through all the hits.
  • \
Social Mention is a good product, but could be better in overall functionality. It gets the bare bones job done, but is time consuming to sift through all the hits that aren't related to my overall search.
Use the advanced search.
