Sococo is based around a decent concept but marred with technical issues and excessive running costs. The straw that breaks the camel's back is that the application requires a written notice of your intent to cancel a subscription at least 60 days prior to the end of your current subscription - and unethical and scammy practice. Good riddance, Sococo.

Great virtual office communication
Sococo was used across the whole organization of 30 members as a way of communicating with staff from a virtual office. Rather than using a phone line, we would communicate through Sococo. It also shows the availability of staff members and who is in the office.
We were required to sign into Sococo daily and update our status of availability (whether we're on lunch, in a meeting, or out of the office).
Sococo solves the issue of limited social connections in a virtual organization - we are still 'visible' to each other, and it was easy to arrange meetings or discuss things with quick 'office' drop-ins. I liked being able to know who was in the office if I had to handle a quick issue or even arrange a last-minute meeting. I also liked how I could see if a staff member was in a meeting with another. It brought visibility and accountability across the whole organization.

- Visual layout - the virtual office visible was very helpful because it made the organization feel closer and as a whole, much more connected. Further, you can group departments in your layout, so it gave a good visual understanding of who was part of each 'department/team.'
- Sound - the sound quality was good overall in meetings, and I liked the realistic sounds for opening and closing an office, etc. It allowed for a real office feel, and this is especially important since a lot of companies offer the option to work from home now - this removes the 'disconnect' that usually exists when working from home.
- Communication options - it allowed for multiple ways to communicate and places to communicate - i.e., in the auditorium, lunchroom, conference room, or a smaller room. Very realistic and a variety in that sense.
- Sound quality - the sound was not always great in some settings, and I think Sococo requires high-quality internet speed, which is a limitation for those who live in rural areas.
- More sharing tools - there need to be more tools to share items. It's not easy to send a colleague something via Sococo. It is limited in that sense.
- Room limitations - for bigger organizations, it would be hard to hold a meeting in one room due to room limitation capacities. The small virtual offices only hold four people, so if we wanted a bigger meeting, we had to 'book' the conference room in advance. This is limited compared to the limitless meetings you can book if you were using Microsoft Teams.

Sococo has a better visual appeal. It makes it feel more like an office space when you work from home. There is increased awareness and accountability of whose in the office vs. whose not. There is also a better social connection that directly impacts productivity and company success. Employees will feel part of a team and, thus, put more effort because of that.

Sococo - it's like being in the same room!
We used Sococo to facilitate a large software development project with teams spread across four countries. Using the virtual rooms that Sococo provides we found that we were able to collaborate with other engineers hundres of miles away as if we were in the same building.
Throughout the day we used the text chat facility. If we wanted to exchange more than a few words the we could immediately switch to a voice conversation. We had daily scrum meetings with each team every morning and these worked better than physical meetings because we didn't have to wait for people to file into a physical room. The order for speaking was easy as Sococo shows participants clockwise in the order they join. Simply make the last one in start then go anticlockwise.
As conference call software Sococo is much better than Skype for Business. You don't need to search for a special client as it sorks on the Chrome browser, it works on Linux and, most importantly, you don't need to mess arywith pre-arranged meeting invites. Just invite people to a room and have an ad-hoc discussion whenever you want.
- Conference calls. No need for formal invites, excellent call quality and reliability.
- Virtual rooms - see who's talking with who.
- Instant chat - can also use Slack as a backend.
- It would be great if it supported other major browsers. Not everyone has Chrome installed.
- The ongoing subscription cost is difficult to justify. This is the only reason we stopped using it.

Sococo lacks the power of Slack for storing and searching old messages but I think Dlack is overkill in most situations. When using instant messages ad an alternative to a quick phone call who needs a record?
Skype for Business is just awful for conference calls. You can't have ad-hoc meetings. Also people outside the organisation (contractors, etc.) won't have the client software.

Sococo
My team at work uses Sococo. We use as our 'virtual office space' when we're not all physically present in the building. The ability to have one own's virtual office allows us to easily hop into a 'call' with one another to discuss various projects. In addition, the presence of meeting rooms makes it easy to have larger team meetings. The screen sharing utility makes it easy to work through various bugs etc. that require some group effort to solve. My favorite part about Sococo is that it's easy to quickly hop between different calls within the virtual office.
- Good voice codex. Voices come across clearly and I've never had problems struggling to understand another person due to static.
- Easy screen sharing. The screen sharing is intuitive and easy to use. In addition, it's easy for multiple people to be sharing a screen at the same time, and viewers can easily hop between the different shared screens.
- Has a mobile phone application version, web browser version , and stand alone client.
- On rare occasions my co-workers have had problems where they open Sococo and it doesn't recognize when they're speaking. However, restarting the program usually fixes it.
- Users can 'knock' on another's 'virtual' office to come in to talk. Essentially, the same as waiting for a person to pick up when calling on a landline. An option to auto-let anyone in who knocks would be useful.

I prefer Sococo over Lync/Skype for a few reasons.
I feel the user interface is slicker, better voice clarity, easier to hop between calls. And, all call members can go to a common chat room on their own accord instead of one person trying to invite everybody. I also feel that it's easier to share one's screen and swap between different shared screens with Sococo.

Sococo is so great!
Sococo is used heavily in the development department. The ops and general company departments tend to use Lync, but some of the more tech savvy people in the company use Sococo to keep team interactions simpler. My department uses it to perform standups and meetings with people when they are working remotely. Some teams are almost entirely remote or predominantly remote. It's primarily used for meetings.
- The UI is more useful than you would expect floating heads in little rooms to be. Being able to get a visual of what's going on is very insightful.
- Being able to move around between rooms is a breeze.
- Screen sharing is very simple and an important activity to have streamlined.
- Audio quality is often a challenge. People will cut in and out.
- Video quality can be a challenge sometimes when someone is sharing their screen or camera.
- Moving between Sococo "Areas" can be a little bit challenging for new users not used to Sococo.

- Morning meetings are much simpler with sococo than without. Small powwows with coworkers to work out little bugs are also a lot more enticing since setup is essentially nonexistent.
- It might be argued that the cost of sococo isn't worth the benefits of simplicity and ease of use.
WebEx Meetings, Skype for Business, and Google Hangouts all require that you create some sort of "call event" that people can join or leave. Sococo gives you the ability to seamlessly move between meetings within one app and also provide a status of available or unavailable, or better yet, people can just see that you're in a meeting and who you're in that meeting with. This provides the opportunity for a boss to step in and determine a meeting isn't super important, so they can talk to someone in the meeting.
