3Com H3C Switches

As our company is growing we need to be able to upgrade our equipment. It is great for smaller companies.

Cisco Ethernet Switches

For mid to large organizations where you have multiple layers of switches and routing, Cisco is a perfect fit. If you have a smaller shop, with less than 100 nodes, Dell, HP, Juniper, other cheaper solutions may be a better fit.

Pros

  • Great product used on a budget.
  • It gets the job done.
  • Better switches than most competitors.
  • Quality of software is very high. Ability to configure is very high. Scaleability is very high.
  • Ability to tap into a vast network of knowledge outside of your organization is excellent.
  • Availability of training courses for this equipment is also very good.

Cons

  • Our network is slow.
  • Feels like things are not working properly at times.
  • Old equipment.
  • Compatibility. Cisco really likes to talk to Cisco. We’ve had bad experiences mixing Cisco and HP, Dell, etc.

Alternatives Considered

I used Cisco and Cisco is a great product but more on the expensive side. This is a great product for smaller companies.
Leagues ahead of the competition. May not have some of the ON features that competitors have, but scripting and automating make up the difference.

Return on Investment

  • Great price.
  • Great product for small company.
  • It was great before we expanded.
  • Uptime. We haven’t had a fault due to the switch itself, which has increased our uptime and reliability across the network.
