Amazon Chime

I would LOVE to be able to recommend Amazon Chime but as an enterprise solution is simply is not there. It is perfect for small business or office settings who do not rely on conferencing as a major function of their business. If your organization is constantly relying on conferencing there are other market leaders. Amazon is a leader in so many ways, [with] conferencing they are still playing catch up, but they will get there.

TeamViewer

In general, as a piece of software, TeamViewer is excellent. It is fairly easy to both set up and to use, while also being quite feature-rich. Screen sharing is generally both high quality and responsive and adjusts to bandwidth demands and requirements on the fly and effectively. In addition, because TeamViewer can be used as both an on-demand type system (mainly for tech support sessions) as well as an always-on type system, TeamViewer can be used as a one-stop shop for remote access, screen sharing, and tech support.Unfortunately, TeamViewer's licensing system is borderline awful. Not only is the base price ($50/month) extremely high, making it out of the reach for many small businesses, it is nearly impossible to switch from a business license to a personal license if that is needed. To make matters worse, TeamViewer support is generally unresponsive when it comes to licensing requests.

Pros

  • Audio and video quality is very good
  • Easy to sign on and start conversations, other tools I've used sometimes can be confusing or don't always work properly.

  • Concurrent user licenses (called Channels). This was probably the most important factor for us. No wasted cost for Named User licences who rarely used the product. Only need to budget for how many licenses may be needed at the same time. We may have 20 supervisors that need to use TeamViewer, but never more than 3 would ever need it at the same time, so 3 licenses is all they need instead of 20.
  • When we purchased, there was the option for "permanent" licenses, so we paid more up front, but don't have to pay an ongoing fee. This would require another large cost to upgrade to a new version, but our use case has not required the new features, so our costs have been low. This was a large deciding factor when we purchased.
  • Fast remote control of user computers. Has been less laggy than other remote control options we have used. I know there are many options and updates over the years, but TeamViewer was better back when we got it, and it has not let us down yet.
  • The ability to have remote access to the Login screen, so we can still gain access after a computer reboots and has not been logged into yet.

Cons

  • Sometimes people are confused because they don't necessarily know or understand what Amazon Chime is because they haven't heard of it. However, they trust the "Amazon" brand, so once they click and sign in, things are fine.

  • The default settings aren't particularly secure or easy for people to remember.
  • It can be a bit tricky to walk remote users through downloading and installing it the first time.
  • Like many other remote access programs, it doesn't always update the display of some programs since it's essentially mimicking a monitor and not every program will update its interface unless a real display is viewing it (e.g. Handbrake).

I gave this a 5 rating as I'm thinking that is as close to neutral as I can get. I have never used the in-person training but to complete this review I need to answer this question. As I already answered I learned the software on my own without the help of any resources at TeamViewer.

I have never used the online training either. I have watched a few informational videos that were helpful when learning how to do a specific procedure within TeamViewer and get the most out of the software by utilizing one of the many features that are available with the software. Again, 5 if for neutral.

Alternatives Considered

Chime and Biba are interchangeable to me, both accomplish the same task. We have transitioned to Chime as it was created by Amazon and we support Amazon, so it was an easy decision for us. I do enjoy Chime more as it just seems to work effortlessly. I would recommend it to all.

Teamviewer is the easiest solution when needing to talk a user through helping an IT professional get remote access to their computers. Most other programs have many more steps and complicated passwords that need to be shared before you can log in and help someone remotely. Teamviewer gives users an easy and quick install process and then provides them with clear ID number and passcode to share with a remote support professional to help them get connected quickly and help out.

Return on Investment

  • Cost is very comparable to Zoom meeting, can even be cheaper per month depending on use
  • Most cost-effective product on the market

  • TeamViewer has had a positive impact on our loss of productivity due to snow days because now our users can work from home on snow days and not lose a day of work and fall behind.
  • Teamviewer has proven very useful in connecting to our servers to manage them remotely from a mobile phone when a computer is not available, helping our IT support team fix problems faster even when a computer isn't handy and they are at a remote location, thus increasing our productivity.
  • TeamViewer's only negative impact is that is can create a blurring of the line between home life and work life because you are always just a few clicks away from being able to connect to the office and catch up on things.
