Constant Contact is great when trying to target specific market segments. We typically like to segment our master list by region, but also have product segments, as well. They do provide pre-made segments to start you off too.We don't usually use their email builder, we find others to be more flexible, intuitive, and have more variety. We do prefer emailing from Constant Contact, however.

I think Hootsuite is a great starting platform for anyone who is looking for a tool to help schedule content on multiple social channels. I think it's a great tool to help with distribution and keeping on top of comments on those social channels. It's also a really great platform for anyone on a budget because their free version is really robust for what it provides. However, Hootsuite does not have the best reporting platform (when I used it anyway), and if you're managing multiple brands, it's tricky to add several accounts that you manage in one account.

There is always room for improvement. I don't know how they test their systems, but they should invite not-so computer savvy people to test it. If I, as an expert have problems, they need to think like the technophobe. Since I've used Constant Contact in the past as part of my former employment, I have not viewed any of the tutorials and just jumped in to work on my client's newsletter. With that said, I found some areas easy and some a bit cumbersome

The layout of horizontal columns for each stream or search is a very cumbersome way to display information. There isn't an easy way to sort, filter, or otherwise re-organize the streams to limit the current view to relevancy. This is one of the primary reasons why we plan to move to another platform.

The system seemed quite slow sometimes. Specifically, there was sometimes a delay in sends if it was during a high traffic period. There were time-outs when uploading new code for an email, and a lag in reporting analytics which was sometimes as long as 72 hours

Hootsuite makes passing on articles from the web very easy- when it works! I have had a number of gliches with Chrome where it does not open properly and the solution (after some toing and froing with support) was to uninstall and reinstall. The support staff are always very helpful (which is great!) but the gliches..... well, they suck when you are already busy!

I think the overall support for Constant Contact has always been incredible; I have nothing negative to say. Our customer support representative was attentive, easy to understand, and very knowledgeable. Would rate it a 10. We received two hours of online training and it was of very high-quality. HootSuite also offers HootSuite University which is an extremely comprehensive training portal with self-paced quizzes, training webinars and videos, best-practice papers, product certification, and access to a network of external experts. This is a fantastic resource.

Implementation is very easy for someone who wants to send out the “batch and blast” type newsletters. If you want to use their templates with no customizations, the product works fine. However, the more customizations you get into involving link color, etc, that’s where things can get tricky for someone who may not be familiar with coding

One person of the organization must take the time to understand the product throughly. Next that person should work with the Hootsuite team to maximize the architecture of your platform and mitigate any problems that may crop up. Also, if a team members voices a concern or is having a problem roll your sleeves up and help them if not it can kill support for the product and end any chances of a renewal. Lastly, set aside enough time to allow for training and refresher training. Solve all problems ambiguity can not be permitted

We tried Mailchimp. We could send messages to larger groups for free with Constant Contact. And we simply found more people read the emails and responded more frequently when we used Constant Contact. I think it's because it didn't feel as much like a marketing tool as when we contacted them with Mailchimp.

Hootsuite is a budget-friendly option for us because it has a free version. I know that the other social media management software is more powerful, but they are also a lot more expensive. We've used the free version and been happy with the benefits it can provide. It's also pretty intuitive and user-friendly, so not a steep learning curve, just jump in and start working.
