BrowserStack is a test platform built for developers and QAs to expand test coverage, scale and optimize testing with cross-browser, real device cloud, accessibility, visual testing, test management, and test observability. BrowserStack states it currently powers over a billion tests a year for customers who include Amazon, Paypal, Well Fargo Bank, Nvidia, MongoDB, Pfizer, GE, Discovery, React JS, Apache, JQuery and several others rely on BrowserStack to test their web and mobile apps.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We primarily use the Live, App Live, Accessibility Testing and Percy for testing purposes across our estate. This is segmented across a number of different platforms we support within our support division. We are starting to move more into the testing automation space, however we still use other tools for that purpose.

Pros

Excellent live testing to simulate functionality across a variety of devices, operating systems and devices.
Good AI capabilities within Percy to help automate visual tests which speeds up QA and regression testing.
Provides a variety of testing tools and functionality in one suite of products which makes it easier to manage users and access.

Cons

For large organizations, any improvements that can be made to manage licenses and access controls would be helpful.
Integrate performance/load testing to replace other tools like Blazemeter.
Make it easier to migrate testing frameworks from other applications like TestRail and at a competitive cost.

We primarily use BrowserStack for cross browser testing and cross device & mobile testing.The main business problems which we are addressing using this tool is that we are able to test our application performance on real mobile devices not just emulators and validating the responsiveness and behaviour on different screens.Apart from that we are also able to emulate certain applications in Windows XP emulator( to test the applications running on old IE9 browser for few products of ours)

I am a staff SDET engineer, and we had an issue with not having a centralised place for storing all the test cases. So we contacted the team, obtained licensed versions, and eventually fixed the problem of sharing test cases among all team members. Another issue was that we want tiered licenses for read-only and full usage, so we can cover the entire team in looking into the TCs. It is one of the best tools I have used so far for test case management, with many advanced use cases to support. Had 1-2 basic feature misses as well, but that should not stop anyone from getting this tool.

Pros

Good Test case management.
Well structured access level for full user and read only user.
Good Integration with JIRA and support of many other integrations.
Good AI support as well.

Cons

Duplicating the TC. Its very tedious step for now if we want to do.

We primarily use BrowserStack to automate our workflow processes through the no-code automation feature that it provides. The prompts that we give to generate codes are very much simplified. Also, we use the website test management feature of BrowserStack to test the effectiveness of our website. Our Web Accessibility compliance is also greatly improved with the help of BrowserStack.

Pros

The prompts for the no-code automation is very much simple
It is very much efficient and easier to streamline testing and automation
The simple drag and drop mechanism while creating test platforms is very much useful for us

Cons

Integration with Slack is there, but integration with Microsoft teams is not that great
The dashboards sometimes feel rudimentary which can be improved
More help materials can be introduced to help first time users

The visual and textual code validation is a very good feature
I like the drag and drop capabilities of the test creation module
The mobile app testing capability feature is also something that I like

In my organization BrowserStack is mostly use for testing purpose, within my team it is used for both android as well as iOS app testing. We do manual app testing on emulators and real devices provided by Browserstack. It has a very wide range of Android devices with different screen sizes and OS versions to cover all testing scenarios.

Pros

It has very wide range of mobile devices available for testing, real devices from all major manufacturer like Samsung, pixel, vivo etc are available on BrowseStack.
We can simulate real world scenario of different network conditions like 2G, 3G, 4G, or 5G internet connecting, making testing more reliable and realistic
Uploading apk files or aab files on BrowserStack is very easy, the user interface is easy to understand

Cons

There is some latency while using the Android and iOS devices, the interaction with the mobile devices has a delay of few milliseconds which feels while doing rigorous testing
BrowserStack lack advanced debugging features, though we have the logs and can see the network calls, but advance features like layout inspector or adding breakpoints on debuggable app builds are missing
Pricing is little high for big team size and more number of parallel sessions.

BrowserStack has helped in making the release cycles faster, as it has wide range of devices it makes the process of regression testing on multiple devices faster and saves time.
It has feature of shared access of same devices and logs to both QA and developer thus making the process of debugging a lot easier.
Because of BrowserStack we dont need to have large number of real devices in house. Hence it saves a lot of cost.
