With its comprehensive capabilities, it meets regulatory requirements for long-term data retention of 7+ years and provides access to datasets for recoveries and legal subpoenas. The software powers disaster recovery and business continuity plans for educational institutions, allowing them to back up individual VMs, files, and databases such as Oracle, MariaDB, Postgres, and MSSQL. It enables system administrators to manage restores remotely while empowering employees to restore data themselves. Additionally, CommVault offers secure file sharing, data protection, and remote backups over the public network. This software improves collaboration between departments and reduces data footprint through deduplication.

For enterprise-level organizations, CommVault is implemented to mitigate data loss and compliance with audit requirements. It supports various platforms and environments including MS SQL, MySQL, Oracle, AIX, Exchange, VMware, Azure, Office 365, Hyper-V, Loutas Note, Windows FS/Unix FS backups, and cloud storage. Customers appreciate its user-friendly interface and single console solution provided by the CommCell console.

Commvault's features are very usable. Other than having to understand the relationships that policies have to clients and subclients, once configured, the policies work well and are extremely customizable to fit your scenario. Commvault support is also one of the best support programs I have worked with. Their portal makes requesting help easy by automatically grabbing logs from your system and relevant information for your environment. Their support personnel are also some of the best I've worked with, which is hard to come by in technology.

Have a interface very user friendly. You do not need a lot of training, or any formal training really, to get up and going and use nearly all of the functionality of the product. This facilitates the post-implementation company as it reduces costs with backup specialists and any trained analyst can take care of its infrastructure. One negative point is not all the options and features are in the HTML view.

It's a 9 only because it is very complex to administer.
It would be good if they could transform the management console to be more user friendly, while keeping its functionality and wide range of features.
But it is a very complete tool, with a lot of fine adjustments to your backups, thresholds, policies, backup destinations.
We're really satisfied with Commvault protecting our environment.

The web interface is fiercely ugly, but it has a lot of functionality buried in there somewhere...if you can find it. I wish the command line interface was better, and better-documented, because that would have enabled better automation when we were still doing host-based backups (which we have since abandoned in favor of VM-based backups) -- and even now, it would allow for scripts to parse job data in a way that I prefer and not in their clunky HTML reports.

Not very user friendly. The interface is OK but takes a while to learn and navigate. Once learned, it is not too bad to use. They have an application and HTML version of the console. Not all the options and features are in the HTML version of the console but are supposed to be at some point.

Commvault is an enterprise-level tool that we use to backup all kinds of workloads. I have implemented Commvault Complete Backup & Recovery in many Enterprise-level, Corporate banks and financial companies to mitigate their data loss and compliance with their audit requirements. I have implemented it across many platforms such as MS SQL, MySQL, Oracle, AIX, Exchange, VMware, Azure, Office 365, Hyper-V, Loutas Note, Windows FS/Unix FS backups and many cloud storage and virtual environments. Commvault DR option as well. We especially used Backup replication (Dash Copy), VM Replication (Live sync) and DB replication and VM life cycling process. Customers like the Commvault CommCell console, it is a single console solution.

They product is built very well with all the features and support to different types of data but as an end user it is not simple to explore the server. Not easy to setup the features and make it operational as compared to the other competitor in the market.

CommVault is extremely flexible, almost to a fault. If you can think a a weird and crazy way that you want set up a backup option, schedule or rentetion, this suite of software is more than likely able to do it.

The ONLY time that I found where they couldn't do something was related to Content indexing and that was because of Microsoft's FAST engine. Luckily they have moved to One Pass so no problem anymore.
