Teradata Vantage is a connected multi-cloud data platform for enterprise analytics that unifies data lakes, data warehouses, analytics and new data sources and types. Supporting hybrid, multi-cloud environments and priced for flexibility, Vantage aims to deliver unlimited intelligence to build the future of business. Teradata Vantage can be deployed on public clouds-as well as on premises with Teradata IntelliFlex, or on commodity hardware with VMware.

  • Agile business user productivity – from Teradata Vantage’s fast parallel performance, 1012 compute node scalability, and workload management, driven by Teradata’s cost-based optimizer that minimizes compute and IO costs while delivering results faster. Teradata Vantage provides strong analytical capabilities for structured data that offers excellent performance even on very large data sets. Besides the traditional block storage Teradata offers other kinds of data storage that can be used in specific cases, e.g. columnar and object storage (NOS). Rich set of in-database analytical functions allows analysts to effectively get insights from data inluding machine learning capabilities.

the vantage platform offered from Teradata is the best option available for those who are interested in doing any serious kind of data warehousing, traditional analytics, BI reporting, advanced Machine Learning and AI. The ability to access the platform through a variety of methods (R, Python and SQL) is a very convenient way to access data that sits in the platform.

It works will with large amounts of structured data. The physical table design needs to be done correctly to get good performance, but when that is done creating performant queries is simple.
It works less well with unstructured data. It is best to split this out into more structured tables where possible.

Vantage is particularly suited for managing multi-purpose systems and getting the most value form a single copy of your data. It not only allows you to do all the normal batch processing required for warehouse operation, it allow you to build and manage real time workloads in conjunction with the large batches.

Best for large, complex, mixed workloads (tactical and analytical). In fact, our experience is that the more complex the query, the greater the differentiation from other platforms. Not pigeon-holed into a single type of query type or access path / pattern.

TV is well suited for high speed, which is a great for large tables. The workload functionality is very good when in Viewpoint. The BAR functionality could use a little work. QueryGrid is very useful as well. The client handlers are still a work in progress, as I keep hearing that they continue to fail. There are also many restarts on the systems as well.

Teradata is quite user friendly and is a boon to organizations where data safekeeping is a major challenge. Data privacy is of utmost importance these days and so as data protection as some of those vital data could lead to legal suits if not stored properly. Thus Teradata fits the bill completly

Teradata Vantage is an excellent Analytics solution overall. Very well suited for data warehousing, ETL, mass data handling, front-end reporting, etc. Its MPP capability is mature due to several decades of experience. MPP capability fits very well for cloud computing paradigm. GeoSpacial feature is fine too. It does not seem very well suited for non-structured data (NoSQL). Also not well suited to be a transactional /operational DataBase, such as Oracle or DB2.

  • Teradata is very good at handling tables with millions of records thanks to its distribution of the data in AMP handling the defined primary index.
  • Through its TTU the loading of the data is very fast, loads 54 million records to a table in less than 1 minute
  • It is very secure database

We use Teradata Vantage as an enterprise data warehouse platform. There are more than 50 systems integrated into the platform - also real time injection of data is used. Transformation of data is done in Teradata Vantage. We support many processes in the company with our integrated data, e.g. management reporting, financial reporting, products, fraud, AI/ML, commissions, customer value management and campaigns and many more.

the only reason i gave it 9 and not 10 is it only takes relational structured data but HDFS/Spark is a strong competitor which can do all this in conjunction with some other utilities and tools and can do more.

Teradata is most suited when needing to get data for a specific purpose. If you need to report data and display it, this application is not as well suited. It should only be used to store and access data. It does a good job of organizing the data. You can get your dataset at a place where little to no additional tweaking would be needed in other applications.

Teradata query engine is one of the best optimizer.s It's much faster and convenient to develop ETL process with Tetadata since it is designed to work effectively for most of the queries. Teradata provides support for connecting with many different systems to load and transfer terabytes of data efficiently with faster turnaround time.

Teradata is especially useful when you are dealing with a large amount of data which needs to be analyzed and then you need to draw meaningful results and patterns out of that for future reference. Its parallel processing architecture is super fast and accurate giving you the results in the best possible time. Its primary role is the enterprise Dataware housing model.
