What more could you ask for?TIBCO Spotfire is being used throughout the organization by various teams to analyze data, create workflow and performance management dashboards for leadership, and create easier solutions for regular reporting by the analysts. It addresses Excel's limitations with handling large data sets, performing calculations on those large data sets (quickly), and creating drill-down, interactive charts.,Spotfire can ingest extremely large data sets very quickly. We use Spotfire to analyze data sets of 5 million + rows - a feat Excel 2010 cannot handle. It is very easy to join tables and insert columns (VLOOKUP) in Spotfire. Spotfire is very user-friendly, and management loves to see the big picture, but then having the option to drill-down to the granular level of data as well.,We would like to be able to automatically reload data for Spotfire Library files for our Consumers, who do not have access to reload the data, without having to purchase another "module" or license.,9,Tableau Desktop,Microsoft Access, Microsoft Dynamics CRM,Online training,8Excellent Dashboard ToolIt is being used by multiple departments across Norfolk Southern. We have been developing dashboard type front ends for users using other tools for over a year now. TIBCO Spotfire has provided us with a tool that will allow us to deploy our dashboards to many users at one time utilizing the web client.,Great visualizations Easy to use once data connection/information links are established Scalable to multiple users via web client,Difficult to create data connections using custom SQL Limited support of DB2 connections (DB2 on the mainframe) Limited support of network connected documents on a shared drive,7,Microsoft Access and Microsoft Power BI,Microsoft Access, Microsoft Power BI, Teradata Database,Online training,8Business Transforming ProductI am able to quickly gain access to data of all types. It is able to dynamically develop visualizations that are both visually appealing and drive business decision making. I have developed many reports and dashboards that display operations performance to operators, managers, and leaders. The variety of available visualizations is vast, and it can satisfy most needs.,There are some visualizations that it is incapable of rendering including circular genome maps.,9,10,Online training In-person training Self-taught,5,9,I began using this product with zero training whatsoever. I found this to be an effective approach as I was able to dive in head first.,100,2,Dashboard Creation. Data Mining. Results Communication. Data accessibility for general users. Statistical Analysis.,8,Don't know,5,7,9,9,We would like to integrate Spotfire with our in-house dashboarding system to enable users to create their own dashboards.Spotfire is Great For Data Visuals! We use Spotfire for holistic business analysis. While we lack a centralized system database, Spotfire allows us to connect the right data points for comprehension in ways we would not have otherwise.,It helps us visualize and connect data into meaningful relationships quickly. Has the abilities to implement quite complex statistical models or down to just simple charts to help review connected or manually loaded data. Easy to use and learn. Great help topics and training tools available from TIBCO.,Could help to have better mobile support for on the go analysis of visualizations. Cloud architect support would be helpful to be able to manipulate and create new visuals when away from my desktop. Would be helpful at times to be able to connect more one-on-one with an individual vs. videos and help documentation.,9,Tableau,Adobe Analytics, Adobe Photoshop, Sitecore Web Content Management,Online training Self-taught,10,I would not recommend this approach. The online training got me a lot further, faster. You can certainly figure it out but the immediate impact after taking just a few weeks of training was a lot higher than trying to hack my way through the tool. The help section, though, is very good but just takes more time to piece together the topics.,Visualization creation Self selector creation SQL functions Database and information link creation User interface,Advanced features but not cumbersome.,No,8Great product with more great potential!Spotfire is a great tool. I didn't use it in my previous role, but I started using it almost 3 years ago when I moved into my current role. All the teams in this organization heavily rely on Spotfire on a daily basis and, from what I hear, it is spreading to more of the organization. We use it from production analysis to research projects.,I love that we can connect it straight to our database so that the data is continuously updated. I have used Spotfire to automate some of my repetitive weekly responsibilities and it has given me hours back in my week. There are so many functions that Spotfire can do that I haven't even been able to learn all of them. There are endless possibilities.,I wish that there was a way to put a background color to the visualizations. I take screen shots and put them in reports, but it's white on white which doesn't make for a very interesting report. I have tried to do an automated weekly email of visualizations that I put on a report, but I have to open the report and take screen shots because they don't have the same formatting when it comes in the email. Disappointing when you spend a lot of time getting the formatting just right. I wish that there were stacked area charts. That is the only visualization that I have wished to use and been unable to.,9,,SAP Business Objects Data Quality Management,Online training In-person training Self-taught,9,9,I would not recommend this to others unless they have the time to use Google for discussion boards and YouTube. There are a lot of moving parts in different areas that I think would be difficult and slow going if they had no training. I do believe though that if someone had a basic knowledge of the functionality, then they could then go to self taught to fill in gaps here and there as they expand their skills.Spotfire is an exceptional new analytics toolCurrently Spotfire is being used by the Global Sourcing organization with the aim of it being expanded throughout the organization. If it becomes popular enough, it will likely be implemented throughout the company on a more holistic basis. It is used currently for analysis, reporting and strategizing as far as indirect procurement.,Easily reads in multiple data formats GUI to alter and customize visualizations is user friendly Having the data cached in memory makes the application very fast,Integration with external data analysis tools/languages like R and Python Predictive analytics features like decision trees and Bayesian networks Ability to set up data pipelines to Hadoop clusters,9,,SAP HANA,Online training,81st Year of SpotfireWe use it for both ad-hoc analysis and for creating dashboards that are used at various levels.,Pulls in data from a variety of sources Quick and nice looking visualizations Filtering and slicing up data to see different metrics,Limited variety of specializations Limited ability to set some preferences (lines on tables, how labels appear, etc.) Some features are buried in non-intuitive places,9,,Online training Self-taught,8,It's easy for simple visualization and analysis; it's difficult to learn customizations (Dials instead of KPIs, linking multiple tables, custom expressions).Tibco Spotfire is the best product I've ever usedIt is being used for reporting purposes by reporting team. it addresses several business problems like crunching numbers and making sense with the data easily and in a better way, crunching numbers calculations customization, printing option is currently missing and the reports through spotfire are not printer friendly instead of using code for customization, we would like to see easy to use built in functions and drag and drop interface for performing difficult tasks exporting to different sources without losing the formatting,10,Toad Data Point and Tableau Desktop,Toad Data Point,Online training,10LucWe are using TIBCO SpotFire for technical semiconductor analysis and for high avenged analysis company wide.,Their strength is in their flexibility TIBCO SpotFire has a very nice full color presentations It's fast,It doesn't know engineering's format. Like pico, nano, Kilo, Giga ect It can't calculate with binary data (Octal, Hex ect) . SF knows only the decimal range.,8,Online training In-person training Self-taught,10,7,Besides SF we need also to know the database, this make is complexGet certificationTibco Spotfire is used in my company for different clients (energy mostly at the moment) and to develop business for other companies. It's focused on geo-localization data for the client. We use Tibco Spotfire to monitor the activity of the customers and we help the users to be confident with this tool in self-service BI scenarios.,Geo-localization is one of the strengths of this tool. Easy to use. Dashboard always available (linked to the source or embedded),It is not possibile to load XML files. In pie chart should be easier to set the category grouped as "Others". It would be helpful to insert a "fuel/liquid" chart to show the percentage of total as liquid.,9,Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition,Oracle Database 12c, Oracle Data Integrator, Oracle Data Warehouse,Online training,4AwesomeDifferent departments, including (HR, OM, etc..). Each department has their own unique KPIs. At the moment we've encountered no problems, although it would be nice to allow the user (developer) more "freedom" when it comes to modify and generate custom analysis.,Data Visualization Summarize Data Decision Making Analyzing different KPIs Trends across time Categorical Analysis of our KPIs,Customization on Visualizations Give more freedom to developer The user is unable to customize certain parameters (such as fonts, colors, ect),10,None,SQL Developer,Online training In-person training Self-taught,10,10,Yes, totally!! Intuitive, easy to use, the manual is well done and organize, so it gives you the possibility to consult specific points! A very nice product! Easy to learn how to use! Gives us the possibility to get data from different databases (which is a key point when working with different departments, because each has it's own system).,10,No,At our current project, the client wanted custom visualizations (not those currently present inside spotfire). For example, the wanted a full custom waterfall using jviz. We immediately communicated with the tibco spotfire team, and they help us design this full custom visualization. After it was finish, they offer support and help if something went wrongAwesome data visualization toolTibco Spotfire is currently being used to replace adhoc reports from legacy applications. We also use it to build useful visualizations about utilization, performance metrics, etc. It is currently being adopted across the entire organization and about 5-6 departments use it now. It has allowed the company to have a tool that's interactive and doesn't require using another program to manipulate data.,Helps users build advanced visualizations and does a great job of allowing users to make changes as needed. Offers powerful data transformation tools which allows users to make changes to the data as needed without affecting the source data. Provides automation services to eliminate having to export/email a daily report manually.,Its a powerful tool but often lacks some very basic things like responsiveness when viewing visualizations on a different platform/resolution. This should be a feature included within the tool. The export options are minimal the pdf export leaves much to be desired. It requires reformatting or switching the page layout until you find the right format for your visualization. Spotfire chart features/functions are sometimes over complicated.,8,Oracle Access Management, Tableau Desktop,Online training In-person training Self-taught,8,8,Yes, it was fairly easy to learn once you get passed the nuisances of the tool. I learned more by "playing" around in the tool.On-line Training experienceWe use Spotfire to analyze patient data from different sources including all phases of clinical trials and marketed data. We develop visualizations and explore the data for analysis.,Analyzing the data is very quick. We can easily identify the areas which we are interested in through visualizations. We can automate the process by developing the visualization so it reduces repeated work.,Handling huge amount of data. More online videos for understanding the critical topics. Help button in Spotfire with detailed explanations regarding programming topics.,9,,Microsoft Access, JMP Statistical Discovery Software from SAS,Online training In-person training Self-taught,10,3,Learning Spotfire is ok as long as you have installed Spotfire on your machine and with proper material. However, I strongly suggest taking in-person training with Spotfire so that you can understand numerous tool options.Powerful and flexible software for analyzing large multi-parameter data sets. The software is very powerful and useful for in depth analysis of large volumes of data. It has multiple ways of visualizing and filtering data that helps to identify trends which are not visible in raw data. Spotfire is somewhat similar to MS Excel and compatible with it but has much greater flexibility and data visualizing power.,Data filtering is useful for customizing data sets. Multiple types of flexible visualizations help to discover important trends. Flexible data export function helps efficiently express the results.,Learning curve is rather steep. Some mutually-related functions and features can be grouped to make the software more intuitive. Pop-up hints may be useful especially for beginner users.,9,Online training,6,10Why Tibco SpotfireTibco Spotfire is being used across the organization for its analytical capabilities. It helps in doing predictive analysis, self-service BI and is an effective geo-analytical tool. Its near to real-time reporting helps do operational activities effectively.,Its recommendation engine for generating quick visual views and providing dashboard design & flow ideas Geo Analytics - Its Geo Analytical capabilities used in the Natural Resources industry are very helpful. Self-Service BI over the thin client. Their training videos and online community sites are the best! Its built-in support to scripting - Iron Python, TERR, JavaScript. Its basic ease of filter configurations and data mashups.,Its Server Administration! The node manager and server architecture is really good and makes sense. But when it comes to an administrator managing or building the environments, it becomes a nightmare. The logs need to be more descriptive and terms used should be user-friendly. While the KPI chart and Waterfall charts are a good addition to the visualisation stack, there is a lot of scope to add new visualisations in the kitty. Visuals that are available with jsViz - can be made a part of default visualization list or provide a template for those jsvis where users just need to feed in dimensions and measures. Images are limited to labels, tooltips or text area objects. Probably, object overlapping would give it a jazzy look. For example a background image for the whole page, currently we can only apply a background color via themes.,8,Tableau Server, QlikView, SAS Visual Analytics and Microsoft Power BI,SAS Visual Analytics, Tableau Server, QlikView,Online training In-person training Self-taught,1,10,I started working on Spotfire from version 5. It was pretty difficult to learn it back then but now with version v7.6, the tool doesn't seem that difficult to be adopted by the new resources and getting onboarded for this tool.,7Spotfire - complex and customizedWe implement it for our clients, it's one of the most popular technologies we currently offer.,Possibility of introducing custom functionality is much better than any other BI tool Able to do complex calculations,Some performance issues with large amounts of data Many simple or annoying little things that remain unsolved for years, even though regularly posted on Tibco Community Even with the latest version, the look and feel is a bit outdated,8,PowerBI and Tableau,Online training In-person training Self-taught,8,3,It was not easy. I learned from more experienced colleagues' materials.Spotfire - All in one tool for reporting, analytics and dashboardsTibco Spotfire is used extensively at our organisation and by our clients to leverage and gain insights into large quantities of data. We primarily use it for data exploration, reporting, predictive analytics and data segmentation. With Spotfire we are able to build comprehensive dashboards quickly and efficiently without the need for specialist BI developers.,Quickly build reports from large quantities of data and then publish those reports via the web player. Ability to work with data sets in different formats, i.e. data aggregation or SQL queries are not required. Out of the box analytics that makes it easy for business users to gain insights into their data. Ability to leverage R scripts in Spotfire.,Easier functionality of Python scripts. Stability improvements are required, software has a tendency to crash. Easier optimisation of reports for the web player especially where large data sets are involved.,10,,10,Spotfire is used company wide by approximately 30 consultants. We have a few data scientists that makes use of the more advanced features.,10,10,10,10,8,10Spotfire ReviewOnly a small portion of the organization has system access. The analytics team uses Spotfire to analyze product data and support manufacturing investigations.,It's really easy to create interactive visualizations Can quickly merge different data tables and manipulate the data using pivots and other transformations Great design and aesthetics,Sometimes runs slowly when working with large data sets It's difficult to add additional files after you've already performed a transformation on the data,8,IBM Cognos,Online training,7,7Excellent way to slice and dice your data and answer your questions! We are using TIBCO Spotfire across our business as a default analytics tool to make decisions across all functions in our business from Finance to engineering. The capabilities Spotfire provides us with has been very helpful and powerful for our users to be able to help ask relevant questions and be able to answer them with a few clicks of a button.,Merge data from disparate data sources into a single tool. Visualize data of all kind,I would like to see some capabilities around emailing static reports.,9,,SAP Crystal Reports, SQL Server Business Intelligence Manager,Online training In-person training Self-taught,7,7,I believe it is easy to use without training for IT professionals who are acclimated to reporting software. If you are computationally inclinedGreat programIt is being used for reporting and creating meaningful visualizations.,Recommends visualizations for you Mapping capabilities - though having pre-set coordinates would be nice Filtering on historical dates and timelines,Mapping capabilities - coordinates, additional layers Calculations and formulas to be more user-friendly, like Excel,9,,Online training In-person training Self-taught,7,10TIBCO Spotfire is outstandingSpotfire is used in the whole organization for every kind of analysis (from sales to supply) and replaced all other solutions we had.,Predictive Analytics for trading and pricing Visual Analytics OLAP,More visual alternatives,10,Tableau Desktop, Klipfolio, QlikView and IBM Cognos,Informatica Enterprise Data Integration, Cloudera Enterprise, KNIME Analytics Platform, TIBCO BusinessWorks, Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2),Online training In-person training Self-taught,10,9,Yes, it could be done, but we recommend train-the-trainer.Robust visualization and analytics available for a small budgetSpotfire provides advanced visualization that can be further customized with custom expressions, which is a very powerful and versatile functionality. Coupled with property controls that allow users make various selections and changes to variables, this functionality allows creating pretty robust 'what if' scenarios. Such has multiple applications ranging from price analysis and price development to budgeting to cash flow to engineering. Spotfire is very good at data transformations and enrichment. This allows aligning multiple otherwise disparate data sources and analyzing data from those data sources side by side and on the same view. That in turn provides deeper insight into data. Spotfire offers a wide range of formula types including statistical formulas that allow for high degree of customization and flexibility in building visualizations and/or logic. This in turn again allows getting more insight into/from data.,Combination chart does not allow stacked bars along with a line. So, if the user does stacked bars i.e., based on one column but broken down with the column's individual values by color, then the line is not possible to do. The statistical table of the box plot visualization, though very useful and customizable, cannot be formatted and the default formats aren't based on the columns' formats either. Data transformations, though extremely useful and critical for data alignment for multiple data sources, cannot be changed once implemented for a data table. If changes are due, the entire data table must be re-done. There are multiple bugs that either unexpectedly shut down a Spotfire session or otherwise interfere. For example, if a data table has data transformations and columns inserted from external tables and if such a data table is embedded then it may become un-refreshable. Sometimes, that can be corrected by selecting "Linked to Source", saving the file and re-opening. But sometimes, it becomes un-refreshable for good, meaning that the data table must be re-done from scratch. If a column that is being used in any expression or as a matched column is deleted, the entire data table becomes embedded and will have to be re-done from scratch. There's limited functionality to personalize visualizations with colors, shapes, fonts, etc.,9,,9,In the first year of the usage of analytics developed on the Spotfire platform, we're expecting over 500-600% ROI, which is pretty hefty. It's not necessarily all the benefits directly from Spotfire but the analytics and logic built into it.,Online training In-person training,9,9,200,10,Analytics of Historical Prices: Price and strategy development. The online training is good, provides a good base of knowledge. The video demonstrations were well-done and easy to follow along. Provided exercises are good as well, but I think there could be more challenging exercises. The training has also gone up in price significantly in the last 3 years (in USD, which hurts us even more in Canada), and I'm not sure it is worth the money it now costs (it is worth how much it cost 3 years ago, but not double that.)

I think the training went very well. The instructor had a good flow and knew the material very well. I was probably the most experienced user in the room and still came away with a better way of doing things in Spotfire. I believe Spotfire will address a need we have in our department.

Great online training. Excellent video content and files to walk through the training together. The ability to go back and watch the videos would be helpful but understand the piracy concern. Great curriculum of courses as well to move from intro all the way to very sophisticated and complex. It also showed progress and broke content topics down into bite-size pieces.

I have taken both formal and informal online training. The formal was well put together and I enjoyed being able to take my time and do extra trials on concepts that I didn't get right off the bat. What I would call my informal training is just Googling questions which I find answers toon discussion boards or YouTube. It's great for quick questions to fill small gaps.

I think that the course has not been totally useful in preparing for exam certification. I bought the two assessments and I noticed that the difficulty of the questions was not in line with the arguments of the two assessments. I personally think that the two assessments are in line with the difficulty of certification, but are not in line with the course.
