Overall Satisfaction with SolarWinds IP Address Manager (IPAM)
We use it for tracking IP address and subnets in our organization. IPAM worked very well in our department, making it easier to manage and visualize the IP addresses and even find duplicates used addresses. In conjunction with been able to connect and manage our DHCP servers. The ability to pull together data from multiple DHCP/DNS servers is a big win. It has a simple UI, well designed, intuitive and clearly laid-out.
- Charts show status of subnets at-a-glance.
- Top 10 lists identify which subnets and scopes are low on free space from DHCP.
- You can search by vendor, mac, ip address and a lot of more options.
- You can create reports and export them to csv.
- If your network is too big, IPAM takes a long time to rescan all the devices.
- You need to install IPAM in a killer server to at least do not decrease the performance of other Solarwinds products running in the same server.
- With the IPAM help, we put away the spreadsheets, and now it is easier to manage the network.
- It's a cost-effective tool that integrates with your existing infrastructure easily.
- We had found a lot of hard situations (duplicate IP, rogue routers and more) thanks to IPAM in just a few clicks.
I think in general that SolarWinds has too many features, more than Infoblox. Infoblox has a simple interface but uses too much cloud resources. We like SolarWinds because it is more on-premise and we have more control on it. Infoblox is also a little pricier.
