Planview Enterprise One (formerly Planview Enterprise and Troux)

PVE1 is ideally suited for a mature enterprise. One with a need to map strategies to outcomes, one with top-down support and direction that will ensure its data integrity and value on a persistent basis. It is not suited for project execution or collaboration. It is best served as the system of record for project intake, resource management, and performance reporting.

Pros

Actionspace

  • User customization for each individual and their responsibilities
  • Great support staff and update capabilities
  • You can see the early stages of the project and see it through in a clean and organized way

Planview Enterprise One (formerly Planview Enterprise and Troux)

  • Out of the box analytics. Canned, but modestly configurable reports that provide quick insights to project and resource performance.
  • Flexible configuration enables resource management at a macro or micro level.
  • Modeling (what-if). I can create projects, load with resources and quickly stack it against our existing portfolios to identify conflicts and optimize scheduling.

Cons

  • Sometimes anyone who has touched a project still receive notification even if they don't need it
  • Having to manually enter information from other areas

Planview Enterprise One (formerly Planview Enterprise and Troux)

  • Until the version of Planview Enterprise that was released in November 2015, it relied upon Silverlight technology for some of the user interface... which made it slow and difficult to use with Chrome.
  • Planview is like a Swiss Army Knife for project, portfolio and resource management - but it is only useful if people enter accurate data into the tool... To that end it needs to be something that is supported by senior team members that can monitor and enforce usage of the tool. The difficulty is that it's easy to configure Planview to be simple for the people who use it, or you can make all the tools in the Swiss Army Knife available at the risk of alienating project and resource managers who are less sophisticated. Organizations shouldn't start a Planview implementation until they have alignment from the executive level down to the project and resource manager level around how they want to use the tools.
  • Integration with ServiceNow is still in its infancy - more robust integration around how these two tools handoff work tracking will be a huge win.

We have been a Planview customer since 1999 and have seen it grow and mature as a tool. We have looked at other tools and have found that PV continues to meet our needs and is easy for our resources to use. They work to stay up on the project management industry and the direction it is going, keep on on current technology so that we can work more effectively, provide excellent customer support and have great pricing for what they offer. We can purchase only the modules we need versus buying a tool where we would only use a portion of the functionality.

The previous version didn't have as many rich features available on the web (right clicks, sub-menus, etc.) that would have sped up productivity on many screens.

We are long time Planview users and its availability is only limited to our internal SLAs for nightly backups. I have never experienced any unexpected or prolonged software downtime from Planview itself.

Always have a pre-implementation meeting or conference call with Planview to ensure all are on the same page, disclosure of all and any customization (including reports) and plan for support after implementation of a specified amount of time with the assigned implementation resource. And document everything

Planview Enterprise One (formerly Planview Enterprise and Troux)

As previously stated Planview provided the enterprise view needed into work and resources as well as allowed for better reporting. Users could perform work based on their license type that could be configured by role. It held historical data that could be leveraged later as needed, is web based, so there was no individual client installation needed and the support offered by Planview made it easy to maintain and/or upgrade the tool as needed. It also was easy for our endusers to learn and use.
