Planview Enterprise One (formerly Planview Enterprise and Troux)

I don't know if this is exactly what you are asking but the challenge I have had at ASU is overcoming the perception that Planview is only good for managing IT projects. Project management is project management whether it is an IT project or managing capital projects.

Pros

  • User customization for each individual and their responsibilities
  • Great support staff and update capabilities
  • You can see the early stages of the project and see it through in a clean and organized way

  • Planview Enterprise manages project resource planning and assignments very well. It is easy to assign tasks to team members and manage utilization and workloads.
  • Planview Enterprise provides a powerful reporting engine that produces a wide range of project and portfolio analytics reports for cost, status, schedule, risks, and health status. The export feature allows our users to export to several file formats to include MS Excel, .PDF, and MS PowerPoint.
  • Planview Enterprise in the cloud has provided more reliable delivery of status information and faster response times from our overseas locations. The cloud-based solution has reduced our costs as we were able to eliminate 8 servers and reduce our support costs.

Cons

  • Sometimes anyone who has touched a project still receive notification even if they don't need it
  • Having to manually enter information from other areas
No photo available
  • The overall performance, in terms of speed and responsiveness of the system, are far less than what they should be.
  • Some basic features, like sharing a list of projects (or resources) across large groups are lacking and are cumbersome to work around.

We have been a Planview customer since 1999 and have seen it grow and mature as a tool. We have looked at other tools and have found that PV continues to meet our needs and is easy for our resources to use. They work to stay up on the project management industry and the direction it is going, keep on on current technology so that we can work more effectively, provide excellent customer support and have great pricing for what they offer. We can purchase only the modules we need versus buying a tool where we would only use a portion of the functionality.

The previous version didn't have as many rich features available on the web (right clicks, sub-menus, etc.) that would have sped up productivity on many screens.

We are long time Planview users and its availability is only limited to our internal SLAs for nightly backups. I have never experienced any unexpected or prolonged software downtime from Planview itself.

Always have a pre-implementation meeting or conference call with Planview to ensure all are on the same page, disclosure of all and any customization (including reports) and plan for support after implementation of a specified amount of time with the assigned implementation resource. And document everything

Pretty comparable in functionality but we needed a tool that could do portfolio and investment/capacity management.

  • Planview was good after initial merger of Wachovia and Wells Fargo to provide a consistant, centralized location to help maintain project compliance but, longterm, it does not serve our needs.
