ADP is well suited when you have a large workforce. We have over 450 employees and frequently have those who are hired and those who retire. It's such a great opportunity to give employees ownership of their own employee information.I think if you have a small business, it may be hard to justify the cost of ADP. However, the fact that they can take care of your payroll and taxes and such is pretty awesome.

Zenefits is great for new businesses and smaller teams that need a quick platform to start recording their employees documents and generating reports, payroll and time worked. It is easy to use for a small HR team and helps keep everything in compliance. Larger companies (100 employees or more) might take too much small micromanaging to utilize this system on a regular basis

  • The reporting in ADP is second to none. The ease of creating ad-hoc reports is far superior to any other system I have used. As an added bonus the canned reports that come standard with ADP, are usually more than enough for any company.
  • The customer service is amazing. Anytime I am experiencing issues I can call them up and expect an immediate resolution. They have an excellent ticketing system that allows them and myself to track communications and look up prior resolutions for future reference.
  • Tax Payments and Reporting are a life saver. I can always rest assured that my deposits are accurate and made on time. If I get any tax notices in the mail I can simply forward them to ADP and I do not have to worry about them again.

  • On-boarding new hires- allowing newly hired employees to fill in their forms and upload supporting documents saves hours from their first day!
  • Time off tracking- the system auto calculates accrual however your company needs, and makes it easy for employees to manage their sick and vacation use.
  • The Business Intelligence section of Zenefits offers lots of helpful tools that new to HR professionals would find helpful as they set up features and processes for smaller companies.

Cons

ADP Workforce Now

  • The time and attendance portion could be more robust. If you have employees with multiple pay rates, pay types, and pay additions this may be a task to setup. My current company is driven by cost numbers and I we had to partner with another company that is another part of ADP called IDI in order to make things work.
  • Sometimes when working with records it is difficult to manipulate historical data. I guess maybe this is a good and bad thing because you don't want it to be easy for people to manipulate data, but if terminating an employee was a mistake I would like to easily be able to delete that record instead of rehiring.
  • The accrual setup is one of the biggest issues I have had with ADP. From the setup to execution this is a project that requires constant review even after the process has been completed.

  • Payroll reports are awkward. I get the data I need but have to download spreadsheets that have EVERYTHING and then edit and reorganize from there.
  • Termination/off-cycle payrolls are not the easiest to use- the system tends to leave terminated employees on the upcoming payroll roster even after they've been terminated and makes for unnecessary triple checking to ensure no additional payment go out when they shouldn't
  • employee time tracking function is good but it would be helpful if it had larger window for employee to enter their hours before payroll. If a payroll closes on a Friday or weekend, employee have to log in in their time off to ensure all their hours are in otherwise they have to have a manger do it for them.

We are happy with ADP Workforce Now. Set up is rather simple and will accommodate almost any/every need for your business in the areas of HR, Payroll., & Compliance. Support can be inconsistent but every process has an online manual with step by step instructions that make troubleshooting much easier. We rarely need to call support. Payroll tax is and tax filing are second to none and processing/importing is rather simple.

ADP has gone back to the designated "team support" module for clients on the newer versions of WFN, and the introduction of "The Bridge" has just added additional resources for problem resolution. It is a blog of current users who can share ideas/solutions in real time. And open case numbers are relatively east to track, and will allow the clients to view status of specific cases in the near future. We currently have no open items!

The instructions from the recruiting agency on how to use the system was pretty straightforward. It provided step-by-step procedures on where you would need to log in your hours as well as what you would need to highlight (i.e. regular, overtime, etc.) detailing the type of hours that were worked overall. The handout also provided some pictures of the application

Either assign more than one specialist to the implementation process, or assign less clients to the implementation specialist. The process requires attention to detail and the ability to test and re-test as well as verify the information. It also requires a lot of back and forth between the client ant the implementation specialist, so they need to be readily available during the whole implementation process.

Zenefits makes HR easier to navigate. The cost is better with Zenefits. It provides better HR and payroll reports. It was easier to streamline the process for onboarding new employees. ADP reporting for HR is not great. It does not allow us to filter. ADP does not give tracking for employee profile changes. Overall, Zenefits helps to improve the HR department
