Workspace ONE Unified Endpoint Management (UEM is a unified solution used by our IT teams to deploy and manage apps on our enterprise machines, including our Macbooks and Windows Laptops, as well as Android and iOS devices on which we use corporate apps such as emails and chat communicators. Workspace ONE Unified Endpoint Management (UEM works nicely to help install, configure and update these apps.
  • Works with all platforms - Windows, Mac, Android and iOS
  • Protects devices against attacks
  • Profiles and configuration can be easily changed remotely for all devices
  • In case the device is lost, wiping out the device is also very easy.
  • Onboarding new devices is not very intuitive
  • Some programmatic ways should be provided to manage devices
  • Installation of apps through the Workspace ONE Unified Endpoint Management (UEM master app is slower than the regular installing apps directly
Workspace ONE Unified Endpoint Management (UEM makes mobile device management very efficient. This is been a leading product in this space for a very long time. If you have multiple kinds of platforms being used in your organization, I would suggest going for Workspace ONE Unified Endpoint Management (UEM without a doubt. This will make managing multi-platform devices a breeze.
  • Works with all Platforms
  • Easy to integrate with BYOD devices as well
  • Managing app licenses is extremely easy through Workspace ONE Unified Endpoint Management (UEM
  • Managing corporate and BYOD device endpoints has become extremely easy
  • Peace of mind with regards to data security - data can be wiped if device stolen
  • Managing app licenses for Workspace ONE Unified Endpoint Management (UEM has also become quite easy
  • Pushing new configuration is very seamless now
  • Microsoft Endpoint Manager (Microsoft Intune + SCCM)
I was not involved in the product selection phase but have heard about Intune as a possible alternative and also that Workspace ONE Unified Endpoint Management (UEM is much better in terms of features and functionality than Intune.

I use it multiple times a week to look at device information to assist with investigations and management. We use this to manage our corporate deployment of Iphones and managed applications. Currently it is used only for corporate owned devices. Some of the application we use transmit patient data and we desire to fully manage those devices.
  • Per app vpn
  • mass management
  • policy enforcement
  • Logging any sort device data
  • User experience in the console is not very intuitive
  • Sometimes policies are not clear as to how to implement and what is ultimatley affected on the device. Lack of clarity
We feel that it does great when the deployment is pretty homogenized of devices that are fully managed. We dont fully trust mixing personal devices and managing single applications and fully managed devices. While it can mix this deployment we choose not to go down this path simply for the possibility of compliance issues that could arise. It is a trust level we do not have.
  • Being able to lock down devices
  • Controlling how the device is used
  • per app vpns
  • We do not have effective logs of which user is using the device simply because during deployment we had incorrect information. Now user is always a generic user.
  • Meets compliance guidelines for our organization.
  • Secure device communication on our corporate networks.

Our search started with the need for a system to manage our mobile devices (security)policy wise. When we were researching solutions and their possibilities the search broadend to other features and a UEM solution instead of MDM. We decided to go with a solution that tightly integrates with our current IT suppliers and decided between Microsoft and VMWare. We mainly chose Workspace ONE Unified Endpoint Management because it had matured more as the Microsoft solutions at that time and was managable through one Pane of Glass. We used it to restrict our mobile devices with policies, deploy some standard app store apps and content locker to access internal fileservers.
  • Integrate with on-premises applications and fileshares
  • Restrict and manage mobile devices
  • Connect to third party solutions like Samsung Knox.
  • You need to install too many components on-premises
  • The portal is not really easy to use
  • The combination with other VMWare solutions is not simple
Workspace ONE Unified Endpoint Management is best suited for mid to large-size companies that require all the functions that it presents. It is a plus if you are well known with the VMWare "Horizon" ecosystem and use some of these solutions. It's to hard and resource intensive to setup and manage for small companies. Next to that it is to costly for only basic functionality compared to other solutions
  • Deploying security profiles to mobile devices
  • Deploying apps to mobile devices
  • Access files and applications on our internal network from the internet
  • Workspace ONE Unified Endpoint Management provided us with opportunities to work beyond the limits of our internal network.
  • Workspace ONE Unified Endpoint Management didn't come cheap. Not everybody was allowed to use it.
  • Workspace ONE Unified Endpoint Management made us pass security audits on mobile devices.
  • Microsoft Endpoint Manager (Microsoft Intune + SCCM)
At the time (2017) the Microsoft solution wasn't fully cloud-native and you needed several tools to accomplish the same as Workspace ONE Unified Endpoint Management. This would have led to even more issues getting up and running as we had with Workspace ONE. Last year we made switched to Microsoft Endpoint Manager cause it presented an easier interface and was better suited to go with our business direction of Microsoft 365.

  • User experience
  • GUI needs to make simple
  • Support for the Product
  • Need to support more different devices
Workspace ONE Unified Endpoint Management (UEM having capability to add various devices with different OS into one single umbrella. If you are having such kind of environment, you can deploy this software without any hesitation. But you are having limited Infra with less of devices and your overall environment are small, you have to consider some other Software.
