Overall Satisfaction with Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT
FE NXT is our finance software we use. The largest business process it does is; we can track the funds and grants we receive to specific projects we do. We can easily produce reports on how specific funds we received was spent. Very important when much of our funding comes from government agencies. It also produces a solid audit trail.
- Tracking specific income funds to specific outgoing programs
- It can be set up to handle most types of accounting business practices
- Difficult to use - it is very complex and Blackbaud relies too much on the user community to help each other instead of clear help, or short simple trainings.
- They release new software without notification, and will often impact the user negatively.
- It is missing some simple things like it does not delineate first and last names. An addendum cannot be added to electronic payments.
- Many capabilities in their 'database view' is not available in NXT. Like accounts receivable, reports like 1099 reports, queries, etc.
- The system is so complex, it takes a lot of time to figure out where certain settings exist. Such as changing fiscal years, all the locations to add it, or change will take a day.
- They need knowledgably help staff. Many of my questions they have to bring to their design team. Also many of them do not have an accounting back ground, so difficult to communicate what is wrong and why.
- It has put our finance reporting in one place. Before, we had to interpret our finance system results and use a lot spreadsheets.
- We are also very confident with our auditing.
It has not affected our donor/funder relations because we always had excellent reporting and business practices. It has simplified our efforts.
Their dashboards, so far, are useless to us. This could be for a few reasons. It does not help with tacking our grants we received. It does not answer the questions that get asked that we need to run reports for. Also maybe not enough time to learn the details of the dashboard. dashboards.
FE is the only software package that can track / report our specific income funds to specific outgoing funds. We have about 12 different income streams, to be used for one of 30 specific purposes. Which all change every fiscal year, and some sources are on different fiscal years.
Quicken had to be 'jury-rigged' to attempt to do what we needed, but more importantly, changes can be made in quicken w/o leaving an audit trail.
Sage Intact was ok, but did not do what we wanted adequately.
Access database is where we started. It was ok for reporting but did not do some of the bookkeeping well, it became antiquated.
