We are a Managed Service Provider and as such, have multiple sized clients across many varying verticals. Cisco Catalyst Switches are our go-to switch internally as well for our clients. They are very scalable and make managing larger networks a very feasible task. They offer great speeds and are very configurable.
Pros
- Cisco Catalyst Switches are very easy to use and manage.
- Cisco support it top notch.
- Very easy to scale up as [the] network infrastructure grows.
Cons
- [It's] sometimes hard to justify high price-point to clients.
- I am not a fan of the new Cisco licensing portal.
- Cisco products are not an easy ecosphere for lower and mid-level techs.
- It will take some decent training to get low and mid-level techs up to speed on Cisco hardware, but once they are, you will save countless tech hours.
- Cisco hardware tends to last a very long time, so even with a higher entry price, these devices will outlast many other competitors.
I am trying to find time to start looking into these advanced features but have not as of now.
Cisco offers advanced management features that will make any engineers' lives that much easier. We love being able to mange our network equipment within a single-pane of glass. We can make customization changes on the fly and that saves techs a lot of time.
Cisco is top of the class when it comes to comparing them to other vendors in the network hardware environment. They may have a higher price-point, but they justify it with great support and a very long lifecycle.
