Overall Satisfaction with Portainer
As I started with Docker I noticed the features of Docker Compose and how the help me to build up a scripted environment. But as Docker is CLI driven, I wanted some Web Interface to connect to and apply changes when needed.
This is the point, when Portainer catched my eye. After setting it up, I was able to connect to an environment and start / stop / update Containers. For some jobs, it was necessary to SSH into the Container, which is far more easy with Portainer compared to Docker CLI.
Now, I am using Portainer Stack in combination with the additional driver "local-persist" and my Docker Compose file is reduced to the Portainer part itself. Everything else running inside Portainer Stack. This let me changes configurations more easy by even using evironment settings multiple times.
So by now, Portainer is my favorite tool setting up a Smart Home environment.

- Managing Docker Containers
- Updating Containers
- SSH into a Container
- The "local-persist" driver (an add-on) is essential in my opinion
- With help of Portainer I would like to browse files of a volume
- Portainer Stack
- Container Management
- Remote Access
- SSH into a Container
- Saving a lot of time
- Docker and Proxmox VE
Docker is the basis I Portainer with, so nothing to compare here.
Proxmox is a different approach, letting VMs running on one platform. You have more options and duties, as the OS is always full scaled. This makes it much more easier with Network stuff, i.e. Broadcast / Multicast, but it' means more effort in my eyes.
