Adobe LiveCycle ES4

We use PDF forms for our submissions to the USPTO as well as for obtaining signature documents. With LiveCycle, I can update forms, save them, load them into my docketing database, and have them pre-populated with data. This process ensures continuity, less chance for error, and the ability to save the paralegals time when it comes to preparing filings.

Secured Signing

Anywhere signatures are required this serves well - except where signatories do not have their own unique email address.

Pros

  • It enables me to quickly update and distribute forms that have been changed.
  • The layout features help ensure that the forms look professional.
  • The ability to preview what the final form will look like and how it will work, while still editing, is extremely helpful.

  • Once clients have reviewed a draft document, we submit it to SecuredSigning, who emails the client(s) links to "sign". At the end of the process, we each receive a digitally signed copy.

Cons

  • There are so many bells and whistles it can be intimidating.
  • It is not a product you just pick up and use, there is some training needed.

  • We see no deficiencies in the product. Even the new anti-money laundering etc rules seem to be catered for. The few things we did wish were there have all been added as the product has developed.

Training users (and ourselves) to think differently is the challenge - but given most users are not as familar with the computer systems which run their accounting software, that's not new.

Alternatives Considered

I have only ever used LiveCycle for our PDF form creation. I am not sure what other options there are, but we have never needed to look into anything else as LiveCycle works for us.

I didn't really dig into this but looked briefly at Adobe and DocuSign. Talking with other users put me off - until we found SecuredSigning.

Return on Investment

  • LiveCycle has ensured that we are able to get a lot done, with little manpower.

  • The cost is generally cheaper than post, and the delays in obtaining signatures is now an unpleasant memory.
