  • One of the oldest distributors of enterprise standard Hadoop.
  • Distribution is based on open source Hadoop even though customizations are done on top of that.
  • Faster updates and bug fixes to the products as they have Apache committers.
  • Central configuration and control of your Hadoop platform (but still needs improvements).

Cloudera is expanding with varied range of products and it looks to me as a challenging company and very competitive in the Big Data market. I would recommend to using the latest stable version as new features are added with each version and different bugs are fixed. As Big data is a constantly evolving so trying new Cloudera products helps businesses to stay competitive in the market domain as every big organization is now trying to move to Big Data.

I have not evaluated any similar products, and in fact, don't know of any direct competitor. Amazon's Redshift has a similar spirit.

IBM Db2 Warehouse

Db2 Warehouse provided more flexibility than another tool in the market for a hybrid solution. The ability to integrate with Oracle also was one of the useful features for our business case.
