For some small businesses that want a virtual phone number, Skype might also be an option. We use Skype as well, but it is not a replacement for the features of Grasshopper. Skype can give you a virtual number, but it won't provide extensions, caller directory, complex …

Webex works well for big group meetings and is free. WebEx does not require purchasing and has many great features for presenting. Skype is more well known in other countries.
Chose Skype (discontinued)
The company I work at uses both Slack and Skype and I have to say that Skype doesn't stack up against the competition. The only thing that Skype offers that Slack doesn't is the ability to make calls. Calls are pretty good quality, both audio and video. However, aside from …
Chose Skype (discontinued)
I think Skype far outways Google Hangouts in quality and features (whiteboarding, slideshows, etc.). Cisco Webex is nice, but I feel it's too expensive for its offerings.

Chose Webex Calling
Honestly, I prefer Webex over Skype calling. In my experience, the Skype calls have significant issues with joining/maintaining connections between meeting members. Additionally, the feature set of Skype can be clunky and hard to use. The only real positive of Skype over …
Chose Webex Calling
Teams and Skype are great products, but the company decided to go with Cisco Webex Calling because of its easy to use interface and most of its features (which other products have as well).
Chose Webex Calling
The best-known video call tools and with a service similar to that indicated are Skype and Teams. Some of our clients use them, but Microsoft Teams seems to us a much more complete tool than Cisco Webex. Skype is a lightweight tool, but it does not have as many options nor is …

By using Webex Calling, it's not only the call facility that I can get. I also get feature messages, events, and many applications that can be integrated with Webex meetings. And what I know is that Zoom is only useful for holding meetings. There is no OBTP (one button to push) …

WebEx is much better to use when it comes to a large audience, no technical glitch so far and a good tool to record meetings
Chose Webex Calling
Some of the other products I've used may have a little advantage in a specific feature or platform, or cost, but no other product achieves the quality level and has a complete portfolio of solutions as Cisco.
Chose Webex Calling
In my opinion, it is more practical to use it in the management of spaces and files

Chose Webex Calling
These are all very similar products. But in the end since we were using Webex Meetings and some Teams usage we have already kind of bought into the Cisco dream and suite of products so it just made sense. These other products are good but Webex Calling was above the rest …
Chose Webex Calling
Neither of the alternatives had the support, security, quality, and infrastructure that our business requires. As Cisco Collaboration is already widely used internally, Webex Calling was the best option for us.

The main reason for choosing Cisco over any other product was because of the confidentiality they provide. We knew that with trusting our information with Cisco that they had the resources to keep it safe and secure.

Grasshopper is well suited for basic needs of texting in and out as well as calling out if you would like to avoid using your personal line. It also eliminates the need to have a dedicated land land in your office or business. You can obtain a vanity number and forward calls through grasshopper.

Having interacted with a new replacement tool, Microsoft Teams, it is challenging to recommend Skype, as it lacks some essential features, such as being less equipped with the latest updates, and it is not platform-independent, causing issues on PCs and phones, as well as during calls that might hinder work.

It seems quite able to handle the normal day to day voice call requirements quite well. Our previous Cisco phones had cameras that could do video calls, but if we need that we go to a Zoom session. Conference room use is not terribly convenient, although this might just be a case of us figuring out how to adapt the environment.

Pros

  • I like that there are differing voicemails for each extension, to keep up with the image of calling a separate line.
  • I love the voicemail text emails. I believe we pay a little extra, but worth every penny for those urgent calls while I am in a meeting.
  • The cost is very reasonable for the value added to our company.

  • The instant chat function is great. Very straightforward, easy to use, easy to learn, no technical issues.
  • Video calls are pretty easy also, user friendly and a mostly stable connection with no issues.
  • Voice calls are easy also, eliminates the need for an external landline or the need to use your cell phone. Clear connections, not really any dropped calls.

  • Internal calling can be done by searching user in directory or by dialing short code extensions for users. Pretty quick and easy to reach internal people.
  • Webex Calling integrated seamlessly with call recording solutions making it very useful for compliance call recording which is needed by customer service centres today.
  • Features like call forwarding, call transfer, conference, voice mail, etc are available.
  • User authorisation for different types of calls is available.
  • It provides basic call centre features as well so that companies requiring basic call centre features can use it within Webex Calling.

Cons
GoTo (formerly LogMeIn)
  • It would be nice to have the ability to transfer some calls to another Grasshopper IVR, for those customers who mistakenly dial the wrong number (we have two incoming numbers, one for corporate and one for sales).
  • Likewise, it would be nice to have the ability to forward to a toll-free number, which would have allowed us to work around the inability to transfer between IVRs (see above).
  • Lastly, it would be great to have an 'emergency' switch setting (default off but could be toggled on) that would let us override all IVR settings and transfer all incoming calls elsewhere (either to a direct dial or toll free number) for those rare times when we cannot take any calls (such as a weather emergency OR the one time each year we take all of our staff on a retreat) - that would allow us to send all calls to a backup answering service rather than just voicemail.

  • Skype is a RESOURCE hog. People who have limited bandwidth will have poor call quality.
  • It is hard to figure out how to use emojis and upload images in the chat.
  • The background images do not fool anybody....it is clearly not your real background.

  • I think what it's doing is it is still the leader when it comes to being able to present calling platforms. And I mean I guess it's number one competitor from a software perspective is Microsoft Teams, Cisco is doing everything possible to provide open source to enable Microsoft and Cisco to work together, particularly when it comes to user room experiences so that no one is feeling like they're left alone or compromised or somewhat segregated when they're choosing one technology versus the other, which is a great thing.

The service can be intermittent and the call forwarding feature will not always work perfectly. There will be periods of time where the calling feature will not work at all and people on the other end can hear me but I am unable to hear them. It also requires a fairly strong signal which can be an issue if you work somewhere remote or a building without much service.

Skype is not as good as Facetime in terms of ease to glance at it and figure out how it works. I think that's a result of Skype trying to be too many things at once. A lot of the menu and UI could be streamlined, and I would jettison some of the additional functions that have been tacked on over the years to simplify. That being said, while some options are slightly hard to find, they all work flawlessly once found.

I don't really see this impacting any other system performance at all. The client is very light use on resources, even on my iPhone. I don't know what else it connects to behind the scenes other then the campus directory, but I haven't seen or heard of any impacts. It seems fairly self contained except for wherever it interfaces with the general telephone system connectivity outside the campus.

I am not aware of the current support level for Skype for business, as I have never used even though I have the product. However, the support for Skype's personal paid users is not where it could be. Users who pay for Skype features do not have a clear path to reach out to support. So, rating 6, can be better as soon as I need to use Skype for business support and get a good experience. I will say that I will renew Skype for Business subscription, which is a significant inconsistency on my end. The explanation is that Skype for Business comes bundled with Office for Business, with no additional cost, so why not.

I have been working for a long time with Cisco as a provider and also Cisco TAC and Cisco Support Engineers. The support starts right beforehand in the documentation of the product you are interested in. From the start you have a good, complete, and detailed and easy to read datasheet and there's always someone available to answer any questions.

The company uses Microsoft Teams. They do use Microsoft Teams right now and for a long time a lot of the different practices have been using on-premise, contact Call Manager and Unified Communications Express. But Cisco WebEx, the cloud-based product is one of the new ones. And some of our other site practices are also using RingCentral. So cloud calling is not new to the company.
