When the data management with utmost security and safety is required this is well suited for a big enterprise. However due to costing may not be an ideal system for small enterprise.

IBM FlashSystem 7200

It should be noted that although this is marketed as a mid-range storage system, it has many advantages which includes the use of NVMe (flashcore) drives, IBM Spectrum Virtualize and AI capabilities. The advantages of a storage designed with end-to-end NVMe, i.e. IBM FlashCore, enables the system to provide ultra-low latency performance which is necessary for certain mission critical systems i.e ERP. Another cool feature is IBM Storage Insights, which allows the system to provide predictive analytics for storage optimization as well as simplifies management and support of the unit.

IBM FlashSystem 7200

  • IBM has been a leader in data management for a long time and Flashsystem doesn't give much to its competitors to challenge it. they're very robust
  • though the UI to work with takes some time to get used to for DataBase Admins

The results we have obtained are much better than expected, the amount of IOPS are good but the latency is very good, although it is not the best for databases and sequential writing, the team meets and exceeds expectations for secondary storage. , I am convinced that for small and medium-sized organizations it can be a great alternative considering the cost per TB, the ease of implementation, the ease of use and the support.

Alternatives Considered

IBM FlashSystem 5100

We liked NetApp but the interface legacy is not user friendly which doesn’t work well with our company. The cost continued to go up and no major changes were being done when there needed to be some before increasing the price. Tech support was also something that I believe could be improved.

IBM FlashSystem 7200

We ended up shifting from the IBM Storwize v7000 platform to the NetApp AFF platform and have been extremely pleased by the performance, cost, and efficiency thus far. The systems certainly have similarities but the NetApp AFF has met all of our expectations thus far and making changes to the storage being presented (i.e. growing a volume) is much more straightforward on our AFF system.

IBM FlashSystem 7200

  • When data is managed, the ROI is there, as the manual error is nullified.
  • Scalable-can be expanded in the future hence future proof.
  • Security is also there.
  • All of the above are making this future proof with ROI in the long run.
