We have several government departments and universities as our clients, and we conduct online examinations for them. Therefore, our servers require additional security to prevent unauthorized access to our systems remotely without our permission. We were performing an examination for one of our clients when someone from outside attempted to access our systems by creating a backdoor to our servers. Our team was busy handling the examination process and ensuring its smoothness. However, thanks to LogicMonitor, we were alerted at the right time, and we were able to save our data and clients' information with its help.

I have used New Relic in different scenarios like monitoring my production infrastructure and applications which helps us to reduce the downtime of my applications and websites and also I have used the synthetic monitoring feature which helps to proactively monitor our websites availability. Along with this I have also used New Relic for cloud resources cost monitoring which helps to reduce my cloud cost. [Splunk IT Service Intelligence (ITSI)] is well suited when you have a system that you want to visualize, and then layer in information from many different sources. This will allows ITSI to intelligently create alerts based on the system as a whole vs the individual components. In some cases, a simple splunk dashboard would really suffice over using ITSI. Teams deploying ITSI should really understand the use cases and consider using simple dashboards where they make sense, and use ITSI for topological views.

  • LogicMonitor is very customizable. We can build whatever modules we need, because it uses standard protocols like HTTPS, SNMP and WMI to gather data and metrics.
  • We like that LogicMonitor is an agentless solution for our use case. Not all customers will allow an agent-based approach to 3rd party tools.
  • LogicMonitor has thousands of out of the box modules, which work on their own and also act as good baselines for the ones that we will end up customizing more. We are rarely starting at zero when we decide to do something new with LogicMonitor.
  • LogicMonitor has great documentation, and support has been helpful in the instances where we've needed them.

  • New Relic APM allows us to follow up transactions across services and trace performance bottlenecks in real-time, crucial when monitoring the processing of energy loads or predictive maintenance algorithms.
  • It gives us deep visibility into our cloud servers, containers and IOT gateways, so we can catch CPU spikes or memory leaks which can impact the data we ingest from the field devices.
  • We develop custom dashboards for monitoring trends of power consumption, abnormality in sensors and API health. In conjunction with alerting, it makes sure we are fixing issues before customers even see them.

  • The terminology takes some getting used to: Aggregation policies, notable events, correlation searches, glass tables. If you're not familiar with ITSI, these terms can be a bit overwhelming and steepens the learning curve.
  • We have had some technical issues with the underlying support when used in a multisite cluster. We've had to build in several points of redundancy to make sure it works as expected.
  • I'd like to see additional types of notable events, like informational events that come in for when an incident is created or when an alert is acknowledged so all of those action steps can be viewed on the episode timeline without affecting the count of events.

This product has met virtually all of our needs. It was easy to implement and has been simple to support. Customization has been intuitive with many options available. They keep adding features and expanding available options. The future of LogicMonitor looks even better than it is today which is very promising. I have not yet found any similar product that offers me this range of features to help us keep our online service fast and reliable. Besides this, New Relic is constantly evolving by adding new plugins to emerging technologies and platforms. Server performance measuring features are a key point as our user database grows.

Usability
Set up is super easy. Just stand up a small Linux or Windows server to act as a collector. There are no agents to install on monitored devices and all you need is SNMP or WMI access. When creating dashboards, all you have to do is find the widget on the device you want to show up and choose the menu option to add it.

The sales team support we received was top notch. They worked hand in hand to make sure the product met all expectations. So far we have not really had to work with support that much; we have worked with setup team after purchase to deploy product fully. No issues so far and we are four weeks in.

The support team has been really helpful and resolved most of the issues on time. However, for a couple of issues, several follow-ups were needed to elicit a reasonable response. The issue was deeply technical and could have been investigated only by their Architects, and bringing them into the ticket took longer than needed

Everyone from sales & engineering to markets analysts to specific IT component SMEs, and a small professional services engagement to get started. They have all been exceptionally helpful and go above and beyond the call of duty. They actively reach out to ensure success is being realized and find ways to help proactively, instead of having to simply open support cases with the vendor.

However, I overheard the IT team members explain that "LogicMonitor is perfect for us as it has made most of the work automated, and implementation and training sessions were perfect for us." Thus, I can state that everything went smoothly with our implementation.

The documentation was clear and concise; the only issue we ran into was custom application naming. Due to HTTPD mod_fcgid and the need for the application name to be set in php.ini (not in .htaccess or the virtual host directive) ... we had issues setting this up.

We did not use software like LogicMonitor for the same work before, but I must say that my experience with LogicMonitor has been outstanding so far. It helps me to be free of tension. I can now concentrate on the actual work I was hired to do for my company.

Before start using New Relic, we had a custom Grafana monitoring tool configured for our clients. Altough functional, it took too much time to add new alerts and monitoring features. New Relic is way easier and simpler to to configure and saves us a lot of time spent not only on configuration, but also keeping the service working.

Splunk has raised itself as a platform not just as a tool unlike other products in the market. If I talk about Moogsoft it also has similar capabilities but Splunk ITSI has more visibility and its GUI is making a different impact on the users. ServiceNow and Splunk are equally capable products however Splunk seems to have more tech-savvy people tools than ServiceNow.

  • We have been able to eliminate multiple tools through LogicMonitor's ability to use collectors to run scripts and collect any numerical data from any reachable endpoint along with the customization and widgets available for dashboards. This has allowed for reduced costs and consolidation to a single point of view.
  • The ability to grant our clients access to see their data in real time has improved both our client satisfaction surveys and attributed to a few point gain in our NPS score. The ease of getting to the data has also reduced the quoting time for our sales teams during renewals to quantify what a client is consuming.
  • The amount of data that LogicMonitor collects affords our technicians a wide area of review when trying to isolate an issue and find a root cause. With the standard out of box data that is collected we have often been able to set a new threshold on something not previously thought of to proactively alert us in the future after identifying those root causes. This has reduced our Major Issues from 3-5 per month to usually 1-2 or less per quarter.
