Considered Both Products
ON24
Chose ON24
ON24 blows away Zoom and GoToWebinar when it comes to customization and branding. Plus, ON24's overall event management is more flexible than these other platforms. The recording features of ON24 are a big plus. However, Zoom and GoToWebinar have a more solid interface for …
Chose ON24
Most of the webinars I attended were using the softwares above. Though ON24 is pretty unique among them, other softwares are more standout.
Chose ON24
Zoom is great for meetings and smaller gatherings. But if you want to really showcase your business, you cannot get around ON24. I notice that ON24 also offers breakout rooms now which is helpful. On ON24 the user experience is so much better. The user can modify their own …
Chose ON24
Zoom limitations that didn't meet our needs: No automated emails, no follow up with the recorded product, audience console was not customizable, audience console didn't contain all of the items we needed and was clunky for audience members to use
Chose ON24
I think ON24 sacks up pretty well against most of these the only downfall I have is that last-minute changes or quick turnaround aren't usually a good fit. During a call, they are amazing its those last-minute issues or changes that would need to get to the tech and have them …
Chose ON24
Easy to manage, no need for downloaded software, easy to navigate, easy to understand, and almost no buttons to click, no settings. When you go to the link it is as-is. No need to turn on videos no unmute button so it's safe on the background noise.
Chose ON24
I can't really compare those products with ON24 since the use case for the other products is less complicated. After using ON24 for a few webinars it's really easy to use. To compare ON24 and GoToWebinar: the whole look and use case of ON24 is way better, GoToWebinar feels like …
Chose ON24
Though it is more expensive then others I find it very user friendly and quick customer service assistants which is always important.
Chose ON24
Prior to ON24 we used Zoom for the majority of our webinars. We still use Zoom, however, this is for much smaller events and where we would like to encourage more interaction between attendees. Zoom does not have the same capabilities, it is not customisable and you cannot add …
Chose ON24
I like how ON24 gives you more of a robust platform that you can easily manage as the producer. I like that the presenters platform is separate from the attendee/viewer side. Overall it's pretty user friendly and attendees have a good experience.
Chose ON24
When i switched over from GTW for ON24 it was because GTW didn't allow videos and that was something we needed to bring our presentations to life and to hte next level. We do miss the ability to send a nicely formatted email and the ability for our clients to call into the …
Chose ON24
ON24 blows Webex Meetings and GoToMeeting out of the water for reliability. Zoom is comparable for performance but can't match the branding and flexibility offered by ON24. If you only have small meetings, Zoom may meet your needs okay, but for any meeting over a couple dozen …
Chose ON24
The quality of ON24 surpasses other similar software. I especially like the dashboard view for attendees. It is engaging and easy to use. Users can download materials, explore links, chat, and use Q&A without having to navigate to a different window allowing for a seamless …
Chose ON24
Zoom is definitely more user-friendly, especially when it comes to video and screen share. It feels much more up to date and streamlined, however it does not support the same type of events as the webcasting platform.
Chose ON24
On-demand library and integration with our CRM and email platform are what set it apart.
Chose ON24
I think ON24 is superior to both Webex and Adobe webinar products because, at its price point, it is very customizable, easy to use, and offers great reporting features.
Chose ON24
The ON24 platform goes further in-depth than typical web-based applications. I find that the service is much more reliable, more of a "pro" platform. I've found the ease of sign-in, and user-friendliness to be unmatched.
Chose ON24
I have not used any other products like this for live webinars. Unfortunately, I can not speak to how well this program stacks up against others as this is the only product of this type that we use currently. Soon, we will be adding an LMS to host our webinars.
Chose ON24
For recording Simulive, I prefer using Zoom instead of ON24 due to the speaker's name not popping up each time the speaker talks in Zoom.
Chose ON24
Adobe allows for a better in-class feel for online learning communities.
Chose ON24
Honestly, each has certain things that are more simplistic or granular than the other or annoying caveats the others may not have. ON24 having the ability to do the simu-live was what made us go with it.
Chose ON24
Poorly, and I am forced to use this product.
Chose ON24
Way better! I was not personally part of the selection process; that employee preceded me and has since left the company.
Chose ON24
ON24 is more reliable/stable than GoToWebinar and easier to switch between presenters, however GTW offers a much fuller list of local dial in numbers for speakers (most significant countries). Adobe Connect is more complex to learn from a admin console perspective but easier …
Zoom
Chose Zoom
ON24 is used for conferences, presentation at a higher scale.
Zoom is used as a cheap alternative to connect with individuals in small group for quick sessions.
Chose Zoom
The cost was just right for Zoom. Webex cost way too much and same with ON24. Teams just couldn't do webinars and external customers had trouble using it. Zoom seemed easier for the customer.
Chose Zoom
Zoom is easy to use. No conflict tools, bright video, and good quality of audio. I can also use it on my mobile phone.

On24 and Zoom both allow businesses to create web conferences that can support a large number of participants with audio and video.  On24 is a webinar software designed to support businesses presentations for large groups of people.  Zoom is a web and video conferencing tool designed to help businesses host internal and external meetings, as well as larger conferences.  Zoom is popular with businesses of all sizes, while On24 is most popular with mid-sized and large enterprises. Zoom may be more popular with smaller businesses due to the availability of a free pricing package.

Features

On24 and Zoom both provide essential video conferencing tools, but they also have some unique features that set them apart from each other.

On24 includes html5 support that allows users to participate in conferences without downloading an application. This is great for webinars as users who only wish to attend one webinar will not need to commit to downloading an application for a single conference. Additionally, On24 includes analytics tools businesses can use to see how many viewers their webinars had, as well as statistics like what percentage of users stay for the whole conference.

Zoom offers high quality audio and video for small internal meetings or large conferences.  Users can share multiple screens or use multiple cameras, as well as use the “touch up my appearance” setting to make sure their video is the highest quality it can be.  In addition to the video and audio quality of Zoom, users have access to collaboration tools such as whiteboards and drawing that allow presenters to make notes and highlight important information on the fly during a presentation.

Limitations

Though On24 and Zoom both enable businesses to host conferences and meetings, they also have a few limitations that are important to consider.

Zoom provides simple, one click meeting invitations, but all meeting participants have to download the Zoom application.  Businesses using On24 can allow users to join web conferences using the browser based application without a download.  Browser based conferencing can be important for businesses that frequently conference with external individuals.  Additionally, Zoom’s analytics features are not as detailed as those provided by On24, for businesses using their video conferencing software primarily for internal meetings this may not be important but it is relevant for businesses hosting webinars.

On24 provides support for large amounts of participants, but it can be more difficult to implement and use compared to Zoom’s simple user interface. Additionally, On24 provides excellent support for webinars, but does not provide a more inexpensive tool for smaller meetings.  For businesses that primarily need to support smaller web conferences, rather than webinars, other tools may be more affordable.

Pricing

Zoom’s Pro pricing tier costs $15.00 per host per month and allows meetings as long as 24 hours. The business tier costs $20.00 per host per month and includes custom branding. Lastly, the enterprise tier costs $20.00 per host per month and requires at least 50 hosts. This plan includes unlimited cloud storage.

On24 pricing is not detailed publicly, but businesses can reach out to vendors for a detailed quote.

ON24 works great for a 4 part webinar series we host every fall that is a annual legal update that allows us to reach a slew of clients that we would otherwise not. (if we conducted the same in person). We typically see 300+ attendees per webinar in this series. One component we focus on for some events is networking, the virtual break out rooms are a good add on when hosting but it does not replace the face to face component of networking. The ON24 ones are also more formal that a zoom breakout for instance, as ON24 is completely different experience than a Zoom webinar anyway

I think Zoom runs circles around Teams! I just wish starting meetings was easier - anyone with a link should be able to start the meeting the way you can in Teams. It would also be great to be able to see participants when you are sharing your screen.

Pros
ON24
  • Engagement tools to help audience members focus on the important pieces of the material.
  • Back end analytics allowed for us to understand customer sentiment.
  • Produce live panel discussions in addition to showing slideware and polls.
  • Use surveys to gather feedback and understand audience interest and intent with flexible question configurations.

  • I love how easy it is to set the focus on the presenter. It is annoying when people don't spotlight themselves as a presenter, so you get to see the whole gallery of attendees in smaller, two-inch windows.
  • I like the capability of having break-out rooms. Even though I don't use them very often, it is nice to have them available if the right situation presents itself for smaller group chats.
  • The recording quality is better than I have experienced with other products (Microsoft Teams, WebEx, etc.), and the fact that it is already an MP4, so I don't have to convert it for publishing on our intranet is huge to me.

Cons
ON24
  • We always have issues with the leaderboard in virtual conference manager not showing results in real-time (complaint from attendees)
  • Doesn't always work with CRMs to transfer reg into virtual conference manager - has been an ongoing issue the IT team at ON24 can't figure out with our account

Zoom
  • Sharing zoom complete information is not visible on the screen, and also a bit is confusing minimizing and maximizing.
  • Every time someone enters the chat, a chat box appears on my screen, and some features are missing from this version.
  • Automatic conference connection based on a schedule isn't an option, and neither is enhanced security measures.

ON24 is everything we expected and everything we needed. It's simple to use, extremely customizable, and scales very easily. The integration to our CRM makes ON24 major lead generator for our sales team from our established webinars series. We can automate lead delivery to our sales team as well. If anything, we will look to expand our partnership in the future.

We're sticking with Zoom for the foreseeable future--given its compelling feature set, ease of use, and advanced technology, there's just no other competition to be excited about. Plus it's a Gartner-recognized industry leader, so it's a rather easy choice.

Usability
ON24
97% of our attendees say it is the best trainings they have every attended. But they other 3% have a horrible experience (while watching the event live) interesting fact. On24 uses two different encoders for live vs OnDemand. I have never had issues with the On-Demand experience. My only complaints come during live events

Zoom is made for the non tech office. It has features that can be made to do what you need to run things on a day to day basis. Immediately we we able to get meetings going with remote employees. ON24 is always available when I have a question about a new feature, if I'm having issues during a live webinar, or if I'm having issues with a webinar on the backend. Performance
ON24
Loading depends on how large the files in the webinar for us - sometimes it takes up to an hour to upload and that impacts the loading when the webcast is playing. Overall I'm happy with the performance, however if integrated with other systems it does tend to slow down the process

Zoom has among the best performance of any video conference platform, as I've mentioned several times. Besides that, their Chat platform works great, and their back end always runs smooth. It's unfortunate that reporting can now only be done by one month at a time, but nonetheless, it only takes a second to run any kind of Zoom report, whether it's an attendee report, Poll results, a user report, a list of meetings from the past month, etc.

Support Rating
ON24
ON24 support is really good with the 24/5 support chat line, where someone actually responds within 30 seconds. The customers success team is also really good and our rep is very helpful with all our questions. Whenever we have more technical questions, she will bring on a IT designer or a tech specialist on our calls for additional comments and help.

As I've written before, Zoom makes us feel like we matter and that we're a client rather than a customer. They want us to succeed and they put in the time to make sure that we do. I feel like they're more of a business partner rather than simply a vendor or supplier. They spent a lot of time onboarding with us, giving us demos, helping us get set up, and then giving us follow-up to be sure it's going well.

Alternatives Considered
ON24
We previously hosted our webinars on Zoom, which was a much less interactive format and not really scaled for such large-scale events that we have been hosting. The On24 consoles are really great and we are able to have links to share with our audience. The on-demand format is also a lot better on On24 than it was on Zoom.

Zoom cannot be beaten for ubiquity - 100% of my clients and prospective clients are already familiar with Zoom. This is the #1 reason why I use Zoom. Additionally, Zoom integrates with AcuityScheduling, saving me a lot of time in creating meetings and adding them to the calendar. Zoom is disappointing in terms of video quality, interactivity features, and privacy. In cases where I need to use the recording of webinars for digital products, I will always use Crowdcast, and in cases where privacy is essential, I will use JitsiMeet.

The billing and price model is really fair for so many functions that they offer, our remote work requires each of the features that Zoom offers, so accepting payment for a tool like this is the least we can do. Scalability
ON24
We haven't scaled a lot through ON24 a great deal beyond the initial scale-up of going from 4 events a year to 1+ a month but we can see that you can scale. The one drawback we have found with scalability is that events over a certain amount of time cost a lot more.

Because the Basic licenses are completely free, and because it's very easy to configure and install Zoom, and because anyone can join Zoom from a link without needing an account, scaling is a Breeze. There are absolutely no roadblocks. My company keeps adding more Zoom Pro license every week since it's so in demand. We were able to convert users from several different platforms onto Zoom with no trouble at all.

Return on Investment
ON24
  • ON24 has allowed us to deliver meaningful pitches, promotions, and seminars to clients/audience members all year round, remotely.
  • The reporting available to us through the ON24 platform allows us to assess and review what is working and what needs adjusting with our events. This is valuable to us.
  • Using the tools available, we've doubled our audience engagement in the last 12 months, and this has allowed us to generate leads at a later stage of the "funnel."

  • It is possible to record online meetings for future reference and more effective customer service. As we dealt with a lockdown, Zoom helped our business run smoothly.
