Lumira is a junior version of Tableau. I would go for Tableau in an instant but it is also 10 times the price. For smaller jobs, Lumira can do the job but it has a lot of growing up to do.

Not as easy to quickly connect to data sets and create and share visualizations with others. Lumira has other strengths in which it allows to push back data or data schema you've created back to HANA. Also, SAP roadmap to integrate it with Design Studio will allow it to have a bigger and broader reach for local and global dashboarding capabilities and data visualization.

The field is fairly even. I'm a big fan of SAP products so I found it a bit more interesting and less complex to play with. Tableau may be more powerful, but for powerful BI works SAP has other tools. This tool works great for the average companies small and medium analytics and visualization needs just as nicely, if not better than, Tableau or SAS.

Just for trial since its SAP product and the lisence was free intially for SAP Lumira if you have HANA but I would not recommend it for people who would have to buy this product from SAP. The other ad hoc tools are far ahead in the game. Please look at Gartner for BI tools Quadrant

Other products cannot work with existing SAP infrastructure. They cannot leverage the security and trustworthiness of SAP infrastructure. They provide the native connectivity to SAP systems and data warehouses. SAP provides good support for these analytical tools such as Lumira and design studio. Also we are a SAP shop obviously our IT supports anything from SAP.

Ease of use was the reason I recommend it. Also I really enjoyed the "story" feature which had a really nice professional looking template that was impressive. I especially liked that the charts and data can be exported as a pdf or image file or just data as an Excel file.

The main advantage of SAP Lumira is its ability to connect to the servers quickly and it is more ideal for connecting to SAP. We wanted to connect to the SAP HANA server to analyze the data and we thought Lumira was an ideal choice.

PowerBI - very intuitive - more so than SAP Lumira with a very small learning curve. Able to plot graphs and charts by typing in natural language. IBM Watson - not as intuitive, but quite powerful. Able to plot and suggest or propose findings by parsing and analyzing data (very cool) Lumira is not able to plot by natural language or propose charts as well, but it is overall much more friendly and robust. It comes in cloud and desktop client versions.
