What is TMetric?

TMetric is a cloud-based SaaS (Software as a Service) Time Tracking platform designed to capture employee work hours and align service delivery directly with budgeting, financial invoicing, and client billing.

Key Capabilities

  • Automated Time Tracking: Captures labor hours across tasks and projects in real time. The platform provides desktop clients, browser extensions, and mobile applications for iOS (iPhone Operating System) and Android (a mobile operating system developed by Google) to capture time with minimal manual input, including offline logging synchronization.
  • Project Profitability Analysis: Provides real-time visibility into project costs versus revenue. Users can configure billing rates at the client, project, or team member level, and the system triggers budget alerts when expenditures approach predefined thresholds.
  • Billing and Invoicing Automation: Generates invoices from tracked hours with automated rate application. The platform synchronizes with QuickBooks and Xero to automate billing exports and reduce manual data entry errors.
  • Timesheet and Payroll Management: Compiles timesheets from logged hours and routes them through configured approval workflows. The solution calculates payroll based on verified time entries and cost rates to track labor costs.
  • Activity and Productivity Monitoring: Displays dashboards of work schedules, task assignments, and productivity metrics. The system offers optional activity tracking, including application and website usage monitoring, for remote and distributed teams.
  • Employee Time Off Administration: Centralizes leave requests, approval workflows, balance tracking, and accrual policies within a single system, providing real-time visibility into resource availability and delivery timelines.

Audience & Use Cases

  • Audience: Project managers, team leads, human resources (HR) professionals, and independent service providers.
  • Use Case: Aligning billable hours with invoicing, tracking project-level profit margins, auditing distributed team productivity, and managing employee time-off accruals.

Simple but fully-featured solution that met all of our needs.

Pros

  • Team time and cost pie chart overviews.
  • Integrations with related tools, such as calendar, browser, project and source code management - reducing friction for users.
  • Report exporting capabilities.

Cons

  • We use the integration with Zapier to connect our calendars to TMetric, and there is some limitation in that only one set of default settings (task, project) can be applied.

Return on Investment

  • Time savings in creating reports for administrative purposes.
  • The monthly cost is negligible compared to the amount of time and effort it saves us.

TMetric -- The Timetracker that gets it right!

Pros

  • I think TMetric is incredibly fast and intuitive. In a world of context switching, we need to be able to quickly switch between tasks and start timers accordingly. TMetric shines in this regard.
  • TMetric creates instant and detailed reports. All of your information is easily accessible.
  • It adds in your breaks! This is actually a really handy feature, as you can easily track when you are on breaks. With the use of the desktop app, it will even show you a snapshot of what is on your screen.

Cons

  • The inability to add time into the future, such as planned PTO days and holidays.
  • At times, the settings can be difficult to find and navigate, but that just takes some time.
  • It would be nice if the web app and the desktop weren't two separate apps. If the web app had the ability to capture what you were working on, that would be fantastic, and there wouldn't be a need for a second app!

Return on Investment

  • Fantastic time reporting means increased knowledge of project health and quarterly projections.
  • It gives detailed reports on your daily workflow.
  • It allows our developers to be accurate on their time entries. This tool even syncs with both Jira and Trello!

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We have used this tool for tracking time on projects, so the team could share a log while working from home. This way we can estimate better our projects and provide the ideal due time to stakeholders. It is great because we can discover how we are using our time, where we are putting our efforts into, and if will need some adjustments in the next plan.

Pros

  • Time tracking
  • Project management
  • Detailed reports

Cons

  • Mobile app
  • Integrations (too simpleton)
  • User interface navigation

Most Important Features

  • Time tracking
  • Project management
  • Team reports

Return on Investment

  • Estimate project time more easily without the need to postpone dates.
  • Reports clearly show how was our spending on tasks.
  • Brought individual aware about improving tasks time.

Other Software Used

RescueTime, Toggl, Paymo

A good time tracking tool

Pros

  • Tracking time spent by a person or a group on a project
  • View report of time spent by a team in different tasks

Cons

  • We can install extension to integrate tmetric with github, and if there is no project that has the name same as the name of a github repository in which the work is being loged, then TMetric creates a new project with the name of that github repository. That way, it becomes harder to filter the actual report. Sometimes, it is not needed to create a new project. It would be nice if TMetric give an alert message while creating a new project.

Most Important Features

  • Time tracking
  • Report visualization

Return on Investment

  • We can bill the clients according to the exact hours spent in a project. Keeping log is very easy, and we are not overcharged or undercharged. So, we have good utilization of resource with the help of the TMetric. And the impact has been positive.
