TMetric is an online time tracker designed for freelancers and teams of any size.

With TMetric users can: set budgets for their projects; set rates on any task, client, project or team member; create tags and set them to any task; see their workday on a timeline; get detailed time and money reports.

TMetric integrations include Asana, Basecamp, Bitbucket, GitHub, GitLab, Jira, Pivotal Tracker, Redmine, Trello, Visual Studio Online, Wrike, and YouTrack.

We have used this tool for tracking time on projects, so the team could share a log while working from home. This way we can estimate better our projects and provide the ideal due time to stakeholders. It is great because we can discover how we are using our time, where we are putting our efforts into, and if will need some adjustments in the next plan.

The product has improved a lot since they started. It's becoming more robust, and still simple with a lot of great features. The interface, although has room for improvement, is easy to use and quick to learn, providing a pleasant experience. It doesn't require the user to spend a lot of minutes editing form fields, and at the end of the day/week, you will have your report of work done.

We have been using TMetric for time tracking with respect to several projects and clients.
  • Tracking time spent by a person or a group on a project
  • View report of time spent by a team in different tasks
  • We can install extension to integrate tmetric with GitHub, and if there is no project that has the name same as the name of a GitHub repository in which the work is being loged, then TMetric creates a new project with the name of that GitHub repository. That way, it becomes harder to filter the actual report. Sometimes, it is not needed to create a new project. It would be nice if TMetric give an alert message while creating a new project.
TMetric is very useful when you need to keep a record of time spent on certain tasks. However, if the tracking of time is not important, then it is just an extra burden.

We are using TMetric within our technical department; namely, for developers, quality assurance, as well as software configuration engineers.

The tool is used primarily for reporting of tasks and hours worked on different projects, which is needed by grant authorities and investors.

From a project management perspective, I can view at a glance the hours and costs associated with the work of my team in order to understand where effort and resources are going, in order to course-correct as well as estimate better for future projects.
  • Team time and cost pie chart overviews.
  • Integrations with related tools, such as calendar, browser, project and source code management - reducing friction for users.
  • Report exporting capabilities.
  • We use the integration with Zapier to connect our calendars to TMetric, and there is some limitation in that only one set of default settings (task, project) can be applied.
We started using TMetric in 2016, then re-evaluated our choice in 2018 in a beauty contest with its primary competitors. Our conclusion at that time was TMetric was the only solution that would meet all of our needs.
During 4 years, we have not needed much support, but when we did, the responses were fast and effective (although not always written in the most comprehensible English).

Our business is utilizing TMetric across the whole organization in an effort to more accurately track our billable service of time. As a software development shop, our product is our time, and TMetric has made it easier than ever to get instant reports from our team members, as well as progress reports/budget reports on projects, both internal and external.
  • I think TMetric is incredibly fast and intuitive. In a world of context switching, we need to be able to quickly switch between tasks and start timers accordingly. TMetric shines in this regard.
  • TMetric creates instant and detailed reports. All of your information is easily accessible.
  • It adds in your breaks! This is actually a really handy feature, as you can easily track when you are on breaks. With the use of the desktop app, it will even show you a snapshot of what is on your screen.
  • The inability to add time into the future, such as planned PTO days and holidays.
  • At times, the settings can be difficult to find and navigate, but that just takes some time.
  • It would be nice if the web app and the desktop weren't two separate apps. If the web app had the ability to capture what you were working on, that would be fantastic, and there wouldn't be a need for a second app!
When it comes to tracking your time for billable client work, TMetric does a fantastic job. It even allows us the freedom to track internal projects with great accuracy. If you are looking for a tool that sends frequent reminders to track time, and also gives you a clear and concise understanding of how your project budget is doing, this is the tool for you.
The only time I think this might be less appropriate would be if you aren't in the service industry. Even then, there are always ways of making your company more efficient!
We have had to use the TMetric support channels on multiple occasions when we first launched the product for our business. I have to say, the support team does an outstanding job of getting your teams set up and answering your questions/concerns in a timely manner. They are very well versed with the ins and outs of their product and it shows. They have fast response times and are very capable of solving our problems. I'd say the only weakness is that there are some key features that are still missing in the product, but those are apparently coming in the roadmap.
