Overall Satisfaction with Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT

We were using Financial Edge NXT as our accounting software in connection with Raiser's Edge NXT for our donor software.
  • Enterprise level accounting package
  • Ability to handle non-profit fund accounting
  • Bank feed functionality lost connection and took weeks to restore 1x-2x per year.
  • Financial Edge NXT did not have a payroll module, so you have to pay a third party if you need payroll administration.
  • Blackbaud's support staff had high turnover and front line employees have very little authority to solve the actual issues, so support cases could drag out weeks.
  • Financial Edge NXT did not have full functionality in the web view, so you had to go back and forth between web view and database view depending on the task.
  • The bank feed losing connection for weeks at a time resulted in having to switch internal processes without warning to revert to processes that did not rely on the bank feed.
The integration between Raiser's Edge NXT and Financial Edge NXT does make it easier to keep donation and deposit tracking in sync and up to date.
Financial Edge NXT may be a better option for a multi-location and multi-state organization.

Financial Edge NXT is a more robust accounting package than something like QuickBooks, so if you are outgrowing QuickBooks or need functions not in your current package, then Financial Edge can probably be set up and/or customized to meet larger entity's needs. However, Blackbaud added a "Payment Enablement Fee" in the middle of our fixed price contract, and despite being a loyal user for over 10 years, cited the fine print of the contract that allowed them to add this additional fee in the middle of our contract. This was in the wake of their data breach, and subsequently, support staff and front line customer contacts had high turnover and had to escalate support issues and related credit requests, dragging out support cases for weeks or in some cases, months.
