Veeam Backup & Replication

Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Backup & Replication

We use Veeam Backup & Replication to backup all of our virtual machines across our whole organization to an on-site NAS. We also use Veeam to send the file data from one VM to the cloud. This use of Veeam addresses our need for daily backups locally and daily backups for a single VM to the cloud.
  • Virtualized workloads
  • Application-centric recovery using Veeam Explorers (for Exchange, SQL, Sharepoint, etc)
  • Capacity Tier to store data within object storage for longer term retention
  • Application-centric recovery using Veeam Explorers (for Exchange, SQL, Sharepoint, etc)
  • Backup to local NAS
  • Backup to Wasabi cloud provider
  • Backup of Nutanix AHV
  • Nutanix AHV is new for Veeam and is not as polished as the regular B&R.
  • We use Veeam Endpoint Backup for Windows separately. Be nice if B&R did this.
  • We have to wait for our special B&R upgrades due to our use of Nutanix AHV.
We backup 15 virtual machines locally and send one of the 15 to the cloud. When we first acquired B&R we knew we would have no trouble backing up our relatively small number of virtual machines. Veeam has met our expectations fully in this regard.
  • We use Veeam B&R mostly for disaster recovery but have not had a need for it thus far.
  • We think of Veeam as insurance. We hope we will not need it but are happy it is there.
Our prior backup solution was the Arkeia from Western Digital. We liked the solution but WD cancelled the product so we had no choice but to look for alternatives. We have an IT consultant who recommended Veeam so we did not spend much time evaluating alternatives. We took his word about Veeam and are glad we did.
We only backup one virtual machine to the cloud. This VM has all user created files. We do not feel the need to back up or run our virtual machines from the cloud. This method works well for us.
We do not use this capability.
Veeam B&R works well for us. It does everything I need it to do. I am hoping Veeam puts some resources in to making the Nutanix AHV version easier to install and use.
