Veeam Backup & Replication

Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Data Platform

We use Veeam Data Platform and the free version of O365 to backup all of our physical and Hyper-V servers. We also replicate between sites for DR. We archive backups at each site for addition gap protections against ransomware etc. Exchange backups are also a part of the deployment.
  • Virtualized workloads
  • Endpoints and physical servers running Windows & Linux
  • In addition to back up, we also replicate some of these workloads
  • Application-centric recovery using Veeam Explorers (for Exchange, SQL, Sharepoint, etc)
  • Utilizing backup copies for secondary purposes via DataLabs
  • Automating test restores to validate recoverability
  • Immutable storage to protect against ransomware
  • Failover or recovery scripts/plans for orchestrated recovery
  • Application-centric recovery using Veeam Explorers (for Exchange, SQL, Sharepoint, etc)
  • Whole server image backups
  • Exchange granular backups
  • Site repliction for DR
  • Make image management a little easier to manage

We are protecting 10 physical servers along with 30 VMs. We are also protecting a Linux VOIP box along with an Exchange environment and a small Microsoft Office 365 deployment. We are replicating workloads over MPLS for two different geographic sites and plan to use replication to migrate our main datacenter to a new physical location in the coming months.
  • Protection of physical assets for DR
  • File server protection against ransomware and accidental data loss
  • server restore after failures
Company was using Barracuda appliance when I started which, in my opinion, was an ugly system. I brought my previous employment experience using Veeam Data Platform to replace this bad expensive Barracuda system and also implemented an in house replication DR which I think was a 1000% improvement over the previous Barracuda system. In my experience, the previous system was expensive, slow and cumbersome with very few granular options. It was also very dependent on cloud access which I do not care for. I prefer to have internal control of all systems and data.
We do not use cloud features, prefer internal control.
As long as the system is properly configured and monitored I have never been let down when needing to recover granular items or entire servers. I used the replication abilities to migrate a small datacenter group of Hyper-V VMs to a new datacenter with zero downtime which was invaluable. I have also used the product in VMware environments where it was rock solid.
