Considered Multiple Products
Sage Intacct
Chose Sage Intacct
We replaced QuickBooks Online with Intacct. The main drivers were multi-entity, reporting and controls. We evaluated Netsuite at the time and they were largely comparable from a feature standpoint. Intacct won out in the end in that they seemed to understand out business …
Chose Sage Intacct
We did not select Sage Intacct, but went with QuickBooks Online. A much better program- easier to set up, easier to facilitate, and better support.
Chose Sage Intacct
The big advantage of Sage Intacct is that it maintains the "usability" of QuickBooks Online, but the multi-entity functionality of Sage is incredible. It does everything that we used to like about Quickbooks, but the additional features and capabilities better serve our needs …
Chose Sage Intacct
I think Sage Intacct is far better than QuickBooks for multi entity and how complex of a business we are.
Chose Sage Intacct
When we evaluated the above software, Intacct eclipsed what it could do and how we could have a system that mirrored our operations.
Chose Sage Intacct
Sage Intacct is very similar to Netsuite, but I think the project reporting within Sage is simpler and easier to manage. Sage Intacct is much more robust than Quickbooks or most other softwares, but it is also significantly more expensive. I highly recommend to use Sage …
Chose Sage Intacct
I have used all these software. as discussed earlier Sage Intacct helps us in Inventory management. which is not good in our previous accounting software so we moved to Sage Intacct from that one. Some of the above mentioned software is not good for large scale businesses. I …
Chose Sage Intacct
Sage Intacct has most of the best features but doesn't have things integrated that I don't need/use. It's very module based so you can add/remove modules as you need to. It's very scalable as well so as I add entities, there's not an incremental software cost like there would …
Chose Sage Intacct
For starters, ease of access works so much better in Intacct. Additionally, the availability of options for entering information into the software far exceeds what we've seen in other software, enabling more accurate reporting. The audit history also helps a ton when we're …
Chose Sage Intacct
Sage is much faster and better organized overall. It is easier to navigate for everyday users, and it is easy to find answers you may not know.
Chose Sage Intacct
I have used them in different ways and like both for accounting specifics.
Chose Sage Intacct
Sage 50 and QuickBooks are "smaller systems," whereas Intacct has the potential for system integrations, reporting and dashboards beyond what we've had in the past.
Chose Sage Intacct
Sage Intacct is no better and way too complex. If you are on QuickBooks, stay there.
Chose Sage Intacct
Intacct is significantly easier to use and more modern than Sage 300, and has a much higher "ceiling" than QuickBooks; you can just do a lot more things, and the system doesn't have the same training wheels that QuickBooks has at times. Being cloud-based and able to upload …
Chose Sage Intacct
I only used QuickBooks to export historical transactions to then import into Sage Intacct but Sage Intacct seemed to be laid out better and the interface was cleaner and intuitive.
Chose Sage Intacct
I think Sage's comparison with the listing system software has a better, friendlier interface that improves the user experience. The support videos are also a plus, as they are not offered by all other software, which makes it easy to train new hires of the company. This saves …
Chose Sage Intacct
I think that Sage Intacct is quicker, more robust, and easier to work in. While I think that most accounting systems offer the same functions, and can be figured out, I did find Intacct to be more intuitive. I also find it is easy to troubleshoot issues in the system. I can …
Chose Sage Intacct
Sage 50 has a legacy interface but seems to be more robust than quickbooks. However, Sage Intacct, while a steep learning curve, can be really dynamic if one approaches with an open mind. Quickbooks is great for small to mid size businesses, where as Sage Intacct is great for …
Chose Sage Intacct
With a medium-sized company, Quickbooks wasn't robust or as customizable for our needs. Similarly, Sage 50 (Peachtree) was unable to handle dimensions and detailed reporting like Sage Intacct. We currently use Square POS, but record all financial data into Sage Intacct, which …
Chose Sage Intacct
Selecting Sage Intacct was not a choice that I was part of as it pre-dates my time at the company.
Chose Sage Intacct
QuickBooks is too entry-level. We outgrew that product. NetSuite is a good product, but I have a history with the various Sage products. So, I have a bias for Sage. I'm not sure I can give an accurate comparison with NetSuite. I like Sage and the company.
Chose Sage Intacct
Sage Intacct offers several automation benefits that can help streamline financial processes and improve efficiency. It's features and interface makes is better than similar other applications. Integration with different portals is easier in Intacct as compared to others. It …
Chose Sage Intacct
We still use BILL and Expensify to sync into Sage Intacct. The other accounting systems were not as strong on the multi-entity consolidation setup so Sage Intacct had made it easier for us overall, in terms of processes, closing schedule, and management.
QuickBooks Online
Chose QuickBooks Online
We use Sage Intacct for all the other companies that we provide accounting and IT services for. It is fairly convenient because we can use a single log-on and book intercompany transactions. It has more functions and the layout is more sophisticated which in our case, is not …
Chose QuickBooks Online
Other software packages such as NetSuite and Intacct I used in the past are more robust in terms of supporting a bigger organization, but at my current company we selected QuickBooks Online as our ERP because it is a perfect fit for the size of the company and our operations as …
Chose QuickBooks Online
I think QuickBooks Online is better than Xero. However I think is is lower then NetSuite and Sage Intacct. The system isself is great because it's cloud based so it can be accessed readily. However, in my opinion, it's not built for companies that are growing or expect to grow. …
Chose QuickBooks Online
Sage Intacct is very difficult to use and the inter-face is decades behind QB online. The ease to which one can find and manage information on QB online versus Sage Intacct is remarkable. QB Online is made for people who actually manage and facilitate financial information. I …
Chose QuickBooks Online
QuickBooks Online is best for small and mid sized businesses needing simple affordable accounting. Its starting price is from $19. Xero is stronger for collaboration with unlimited users. Their cost starts with 15, and they are good for flexible reports. Netsuite is built for …
Chose QuickBooks Online
Reporting is more diverse and ability to add multiple dimensions
Chose QuickBooks Online
FreshBooks is trying to do more bookkeeping and accounting, but QuickBooks Online greatly surpasses in terms of functionality and integrations. FreshBooks can easily manage invoices and very basic reporting.
Chose QuickBooks Online
It is a platform that we consider to be mid-range. Where we are below cost and functionality relative to the more robust players like a SAP Business One, but still powerful enough for a medium or large size operation. In addition to being one of the few global solutions that …
Chose QuickBooks Online
QuickBooks pales in comparison to netsuite. Netsuite is a fully functional cloud based ERP system that is a mid tier solution for companies that have outgrown small business solutions. It was intuitive and allowed for full cycle accounting, procurement processing with …
Chose QuickBooks Online
User-friendly and low cost for small size organizations.
Chose QuickBooks Online
Zuora was not as user-friendly as QB Online and the pricing was fair for what we needed it for.
Chose QuickBooks Online
Quickbooks Online made more sense for our clients who had smaller businesses and required more hands-on accounting help. The ability to access this cloud-based accounting software from our office and respond to needs quickly was a huge benefit and advantage over Quickbooks …
Chose QuickBooks Online
Most of the systems I have used are larger accounting applications that are not as comparable to Quickbooks. As I have demoed another competitor, I keep coming back around to using Quickbooks Online because it is usually the cheapest option with the most useful information …

Sage
Sage Intacct is well suited for organizations that have outgrown a basic accounting system and need real integrations, better reporting, and the ability to centralize financial operations without significantly adding headcount. For us specifically, it was the right fit because we needed to connect multiple systems, bring invoicing in house, and give leadership real time visibility into our financials. It works particularly well for small but complex finance teams that need the system to absorb work rather than create it.
The system is powerful but it requires someone who understands accounting well enough to configure and maintain it properly. It is also worth noting that some of the more advanced features, like bank feeds and certain automation capabilities, can be harder to fully utilize depending on your banking relationships and technical setup.

QBO is a great solution for small and midsize companies. If the goal is to record all transactions and pull reliable financial reports, QBO is a great option. QBO is also a great solution if most operations are run in a system like Ramp. It syncs well with systems like that and turns the data into something management can use to make decisions. QBO is great because so many people use it. It is easy to find training online, and many people have experience with it.

Whole funnel and specific channel performance from upper to lower funnel metrics. The ability to view full channel performance for some time, such as weekly, monthly, or quarterly, has truly been monumental in how my team optimizes specific channels and campaigns. Daily performance tracking is a bit overwhelming, with load times and having to refresh specific live views over time. It can be challenging to do so at times, as extensive dashboards take much longer to load.

Pros
Sage
  • Custom, real-time financial reporting. I am able to streamline my reporting to pull in various account groups and calculations which save me time from having to do it in Excel.
  • Out of the box standard reports for clients who don't require as custom of reporting or even as a great starting point to build out reports.
  • Integrations with other platforms, such as Airbase, various banks, Rippling, etc.
  • The dashboard module is extremely helpful in my monthly review of various entities.

  • Workflows for accounts payable invoice review are terrific.
  • Bill payment allows you to pay vendors online via ACH or check without having to write a physical check, which reduces admin time.
  • The cloud based login lends well to a remote or hybrid work environment for staff.
  • QuickBooks Online allows you to pre-configure vendors' general ledger expense accounts. This helps with general ledger coding accuracy and consistency.
  • QuickBooks Online integrates with Rippling HRIS, Coast, Capital One, JPMorgan Chase, etc., which lends well to an efficient month-end closing and reduced administrative time.

  • It's good at doing what it is designed for: accessing visualizations without having to download and open a workbook in Tableau Desktop. The latter would be a very inefficient method for sharing our metrics, so I am glad that we have Tableau Server to serve this function.
  • Publishing to Tableau Server is quick and easy. Just a few clicks from Tableau Desktop and a few seconds of publishing through an average speed network, and the new visualizations are live!
  • Seeing details on who has viewed the visualization and when. This is something particularly useful to me for trying to drive adoption of some new pages, so I really appreciate the granularity provided in Tableau Server

Cons
Sage
  • The budgeting module is archaic. It needs to have more application features, including tracking changes made throughout the year.
  • The creation of reports is complicated and lacks sufficient filtering options during the process.
  • The Purchasing module should be more flexible, allowing users to add change orders to an existing PO rather than creating a new one.

  • I dislike that the online bill pay option through QuickBooks is required for their invoicing.
  • The auto-fill portion of the customer setup, specifically the company name, is listed, but it also auto-fills in the name portion, which is inconvenient and time-consuming to remove.

It simply is used all the time by more and more people. Migrating to something else would involve lots of work and lots of training. The renewal fee being fair, it simply isn't worth migrating to a different tool for now.

Usability
Sage
The ease of use as a seasoned user is wonderful; however, new users struggle to adapt to the program efficiently. Better training videos--all in one location--would be beneficial. The use of a "sandbox" environment is a great tool for new employees or for the fiscal department to test certain journal entries or other transactions to verify accuracy of data.

Beyond being overkill for a small org's needs, QBO is constantly stealing screen real estate and attention by hammering users for account upgrades, connecting to one of their approved consultants or buying add-ons. The idea of using a simple configurable bookeeping and light accounting interface is completely missing. At the very least, we should be able to hide functions like inventory that we will never use.

Tableau Server takes training and experience in order to unlock the application's full potential. This is best handled by a qualified data scientist or data analytics manager. Tableau user interface layout, nomenclature, and command structure take time and training to become proficient with. Integration and connectivity require proper IT developer support.

As fas as integration is concerned I don't feel this slows Sage Intacct down at all. However, sometimes I do feel it takes some larger reports more time to load due to all the detail. As well as, I "move very fast" in my motions so sometimes I double click on fuctions too quickly and the system seems to think that I have a duplicate request.

Only a few times have we had to reach out to support, and every time we did, we received a relatively quick response and a solution was found fairly quickly. Only once was there an issue that took longer than a week to resolve, but it still did eventually get solved.

We have consistently had highly satisfactory results every time we've reached out for help. Our contractor, used for Tableau server maintenance and dashboard development is very technically skilled. When he hits a roadblock on how to do something with Tableau, the support staff have provided timely and useful guidance. He frequently compares it to Cognos and says that while Cognos has capabilities Tableau doesn't, the bottom line value for us is a no-brainer

In our case, they hired a private third party consultant to train our dept. It was extremely boring and felt like it dragged on. Everything I learned was self taught so I was not really paying attention. But I do think that you can easily spend a week on the tool and go over every nook and cranny. We only had the consultant in for a day or two.

The free training is very minimal. For what we pay for the service, I would like more training. We end up training new users in-house because the provided free training is not nearly comprehensive enough. That being said, the training provided, for the material covered, was adequate and relevant for the given topics.

The Tableau website is full of videos that you can follow at your own pace. As a very small company with a Tableau install, access to these free resources was incredibly useful to allowing me to implement Tableau to its potential in a reasonable and proportionate manner.

Implementation Rating
Sage
I would not use a thrid party administrator to implement your system, especially if you are going to be modifying the system at all. Use Intacct implementors as they will be able to better support you on any issues that come up after you go live.

The person in charge of QB needs to be very accurate with record keeping and is recommended to stay on top of tasks. The biggest issue we have is reconciliation, and those issues occur only when too much time has occurred between reconciliations

Implementation was over the phone with the vendor, and did not go particularly well. Again, think this was our fault as our integration and IT oversight was poor, and we made errors. Would they have happened had a vendor been onsite? Not sure, probably not, but we probably wouldn't have paid for that either

Alternatives Considered
Sage
Sage Intacct was selected as the best fit for our core financial management needs, reporting requirements, and finance team operating model. Sage Intacct’s dimensional model was a major factor. It allowed us to report by department, entity, business unit, customer, vendor, project, or other dimensions without creating an overly complex chart of accounts. The approval workflows, transaction history, supporting documentation, and reporting structure helped strengthen financial controls.

As a freelance bookkeeper, the Desktop version of QuickBooks Online doesn't allow for ease of access from any device. Having to be on a computer with the software downloaded creates additional work to gain access to all required filings etc. Also, I personally find the linking functionality on the Online version to be much more streamlined and user friendly.

Today, if my shop is largely Microsoft-centric, I would be hard pressed to choose a product other than Power BI. Tableau was the visualization leader for years, but Microsoft has caught up with them in many areas, and surpassed them in some. Its ability to source, transform, and model data is superior to Tableau. Tableau still has the lead in some visualizations, but Power BI's rise is evidenced by its ever-increasing position in the leadership section of the Gartner Magic Quadrant.

As we have grown along our professional path, we have also expanded our use of QB. The scalability is easy and features seem to be waiting for you until you need them. We have increased profits by over 10x from our first year in business to the current and have yet to find a reason to look elsewhere

Return on Investment
Sage
  • Positive - It runs better than our old software when we all work together, rather than having to sign off on each other and deal with syncing issues.
  • Negative - It's not as easy to go back to fix an amount, a date, etc. Sometimes, a very small mistake needs to be corrected by voiding and redoing the entire transaction.
  • We can successfully sync other software we use with Intacct! It reduces workload when things are automated.

  • QuickBooks has given us a useful portal by which to get an overview of our financials.
  • QuickBooks has given us a relatively easy way to send out invoices quickly and efficiently.
  • Due to the customization limitations on QuickBooks, we've had to get creative in third-party implementations to better represent our brand and to track financials.

  • Tableau does take dedicated FTE to create and analyze the data. It's too complex (and powerful) a product not to have someone dedicated to developing with it.
  • There are some significant setup for the server product.
  • Once sever setup is complete, it's largely "fire and forget" until an update is necessary. The server update process is cumbersome.
