What is IBM watsonx Assistant?

IBM watsonx Assistant is a conversational AI solution designed to build AI assistants that scale across a business, while providing customers and employees with fast, consistent and accurate answers across any messaging platform, application, device or channel. Using generative AI and natural language understanding, Assistant learns from customer conversations, improving its ability to resolve issues the first time while removing the frustration of long wait times, tedious searches and unhelpful chatbots.

Most chatbots try to mimic human interactions, frustrating customers when a misunderstanding arises. IBM watsonx Assistant gives users tools to build AI-assistants designed to know when to search for an answer from a knowledge base, when to ask for clarity and when to direct users to a human agent for more assistance. And it can be deployed in any cloud or on-premises environment, offering integrations to a business's existing tools.

We deployed IBM Watson for a customer facing business unit that specializes in products that can be bought online after a review of the product features, looking at a demo, asking quick questions, answering a few survey questions. Prior to deploying IBM Watson Assistant - the process was manual and laborious. Deploying IBM Watson Assistant made the process much easier and efficient.
  • AI driven surveys.
  • AI driven database dips.
  • Data collection.
  • Data manipulation.
  • Integration with newer next gen non IBM centric apps.
  • A few challenges integrating with home grown databases.
If the initial configs are done right, IBM Watson Assistant is a very reliable platform that can be used in multiple business used cases / scenarios. The out of the box solution is very robust and can provide most basic functionalities. Testing the platform in a test bed (in a DEV or a UAT environment) is extremely useful to test all different used cases before deploying in Production. The IBM account team is also very helpful in gathering the overall business requirements and working on the UAT / DEV test set up.
  • Easy initial set up.
  • Efficient AI engine.
  • Out of the box integrations are sufficient to start testing in DEV/UAT.
  • Faster customer response.
  • More leads generation.
  • Better customer satisfaction.
  • Challenging to integrate with homegrown apps / databases.
IBM Watson Assistant is quite advanced as compared to most AI bases Customer contact management solutions available today. Where it does faces good completion from AWS based solutions plus emerging platforms by Verint and newcomers like Dragonfly, it is much better than most Microsoft based solutions which are much further behind.

IBM Watson Assistant is being used to handle various insurance questions from health care providers. For example, we are handling authorization, claims, and benefits related inquiries. This has reduced live chat volume and improved the customer experience. There are still questions the virtual agent is not handling. We will prioritize based on IBM Watson Assistant production logs and business input.
  • Digressions
  • Disambiguation
  • Intent detection
  • Tracking changes
  • Specifying values that are not an entity
  • Documentation
IBM Watson Assistant is well suited for simple, high volume customer interactions. Much of the challenge when building a virtual agent is around fully understanding the requirements. In insurance, there can be many edge cases. For example, perhaps there should be a separate flow for each state. Before beginning, make sure your customers are allowed to chat with bots.
  • Ease of development
  • Accurate intent predictions
  • Availability
  • Nearly 35% of in-scope bot conversations are contained
IBM Watson Assistant seems to be easier to learn while also having more functionality. Seems like IBM Watson Assistant can learn intents on fewer utterances than Lex. I also prefer the dialog UI. The UI shows a dialog tree with various drop-downs.

It has a user friendly interface with good control on Android technology that provides containerization. It gives control to the information technology administrator, including remote data wipe. It also has the flexibility to create multiple/different user group profiles and assign security policies to each group independently. Flexibility in billing and good technical support.
  • Billing Transparent.
  • Better security policies.
  • Easy to configure and maintain.
  • no better support on Apple products.
  • Technical support not based out of India
  • Dependency on vendors on billing
IBM Watson Assistant was good in implementing BYOD but if the using devices are only Android-based one's. It would be better if extended to other OS platforms like Windows and Apple IOS. other good features like location tracing etc., also could help better. Containerization giving the required security controls to segregated business applications from personal applications.
  • Good with Android devices like mobile phone and tabs.
  • Remote group policy updates.
  • IBM MaaS 360 along with Watson controls for mobile devices.
  • Conflict of interest with vendors.
  • IT team help to implement Bring Your Own Device technology.
  • Good security controls.

Based on our experience with usage, Zoho has good integration between security policy management and the hardware inventory management along with its in build service desk portal.

And also Zoho allows Google Play Store applications for business requirement. However, Zoho has no feature of containerization and not much economical because of the requirement of a bundle package. So for BYOD technology IBM Maas 360 with Watson option is the best one.
