- Moodle is deeply integrated into our product offering. It serves as the foundation of our platform.

Moodle on a Small College Campus
- Our campus made the switch from another LMS to Moodle for financial reasons, and overall it has met our needs for a better price point that another LMS.

- We had a negative return in that we spent a large amount of money converting courses to Moodle, then shortly after we moved back to Blackboard and had another large outlay of cash to convert them back (not very successfully).

Moodle vs everyone else - why it is time to embrace open-source
- ROI - Using Moodle as our LMS platform has allowed us to cut over $100,000 out of our development budget as Moodle, as a platform, does not cost any money or require special development work to set up. Our in-house developer spun up a server farm, installed Moodle, and we were on our way.
- Credibility - Using Moodle as our LMS has allowed us to develop credibility with staff, vendors, and volunteers. Online learning has become the norm and without Moodle, we were not keeping up with the times.
- Efficiency - Because Moodle is mobile friendly, our theme is responsive, and all of our content is viewable on mobile devices (not flash based) we have been able to extend the learning environment, not only out of the typical classroom, but away from the computer as well.

Moodle at McNeese
- Moodle has had a positive impact on our business objectives because we went from using another service that cost us $60,000 per year to Moodle, which is open source, which we self-host and it is basically free.
- We are able to upgrade from 2.0 which we started on, to each of the upgrades relatively quickly. We have recently upgraded to 2.7 and we test it out on our Moodletest site first and then we upgrade to our actual site.
- We definitely have increased our instructor efficiency. The only issues that we had this semester were with the quiz settings, and we taught several lessons in this to clear up the miscommunication among the instructors. I also have a "Moodle for Instructors" course that I put all of these instructions and many more for the faculty members such as how to make the courses visible for their students, how to transfer a block of students from one course to another, if they wish to combine two courses, how to import materials from last semester's course into a new semester's course. They may refer to these at any time. It saves me tons of email time!

Moodle, Tough to master but worth the effort
- It's a user engagement experience, more users engaged with the product as they used it. The downside is that you do have to dig into it to really use it effectively.
Great for startup initiative.
- The time to implementation was virtually zero which allowed for quick revenue generation in a new line of business.
- Basic functionality was sufficient to launch meaning that upfront costs were very low.
- Allowed organization to meet demand for new product quickly and at low initial investment.
Moodle is Free (but there is a price)
- Positive: Can track the completion of a training module, and then determine the effectiveness of the training.
- Positive: State employees can now go to one source for all training-related materials. There is no need to search throughout the department for appropriate education.
- Negative: Company was surprised that the "free" LMS actually cost a lot in man hours. However, this was still cheaper than purchasing a commercial product.
Moodle in Medical Education
- We've had Moodle since 2011 and it's the main CMS for our institution. It helps to deliver our curriculum more efficiently.
- We keep student access to all courses from year 1 to year 4. Moodle provides a platform for faculty and students to manage teaching and learning systematically.
- It helps with communication across departments on campus and regional sites.
Moodle, an LMS for the People
- Better access for students - Students can easily access course content, take assessments and view grades at any given moment, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
- Low cost - Moodle is free--as in beer--so the cost is very low if you have your own server. We save tens of thousands of dollars a year by using Moodle instead of the other managed LMS options out there. Managing our Moodle instances is just one of my assigned tasks, so it doesn't necessarily require a dedicated staff member to manage it as their only responsibility, depending on the size of your institution.
- Other savings - There is no real way for us to assess how much time is saved by faculty using Moodle to manage their courses, or to figure out how many pages of paper aren't printed out because students can access those documents electronically, but we believe they are significant. Consider the following for instance. Suppose you had 200 courses per semester, each with an average of 15 students, and 50 pages worth of documents, and documents cost $0.05 per page. All of those pages not being printed out for students would save you roughly $7500 per semester in printing costs, not to mention time saved by not sending an order to print services or printing on a local printer, not replacing paper/toner, and not distributing them in class.
A Trusted LMS That Does (Almost) Everything
- We simply couldn't do what we do without Moodle. The free and open-source nature of it is of huge benefit to us. We also use a third-party host whose cost is reasonable for us.
Moodle for the Corporate Noodle
- Moodle has allowed the business to track all training initiatives. Since, November 2014 we have loaded 54 courses, 339 users, 889 resources, issued 719 badges, and created over 100 course modules.
- Our company just got a new applicant tracking system for the recruiters to use. In order to get all of the employees up to speed we created trainings that we loaded into Moodle. The participants and participation was tracked and we were able to find correlations between users engaged in training and their activity in the new applicant tracking system. This is a significant win for the training department, our learners, our company, and especially Moodle.
- Moodle also provides great customer service for our internal employees. They now have one place to go to find all their resources, all their training, and all the help they need for any training questions. Instead of scattering information on the intranet. Training is more official when it has its own domain.
Moodle in Education
- Positive impact technologically - It has allowed myself and other educators to explore the technological side of online education. Learning how to teach and teaching online are really two different things. Using Moodle allowed me to see and feel what the end user, in our case the students, were seeing and feeling. It takes hours on the back end to save students minutes/seconds on the front end.....and it was worth it since it was a matter of keeping the students focused on the content of the course rather than the technical aspect.
Moodle 2.8 Review
- We left our previous LMS due to high costs and poor technical support. Moodle is less expensive, more reliable, more user-friendly, and our service provider is more responsive than our former LMS.
- We have experienced increased use of the LMS by our faculty since switching to Moodle and more interest in trying new features.

Reflections on Moodle after returning to Blackboard
- Since I used it in the capacity of a faculty member of a college, the default benefit is just the cost of doing business. If set up properly, it can accelerate the speed and flexibility of assessment and feedback.
- Outside the education sector, monitoring the training steps completed (particularly for refresher training) would be greatly improved. Such seemingly dull tasks like "how to use the phone system" or the photocopier would benefit from small online training classes, since the majority of features in modern office appliances go unused.
Moodle - Free Learning Anytime and Anywhere
- Students love being able to access class content and enrichment activities outside the school day.
- The schools system can offer credit courses in the summer without having to open buildings and absorb those extra costs.
- Students are better prepared for a world that includes online training and content delivery because of their exposure to this environment.
Moodle Review: It keeps on truckin'
- With our hosted environment it is much more cost effective for us. We cannot afford to have just one person overseeing a Moodle instance. If Moodle is self-hosted, the more you utilize it and the additional features the more a person needs to be dedicated to it support.
- Don't feed the alligator. Do not jump into an LMS because everyone else is doing it. They do consume resources even if a product is free. It is the cost behind the scenes that can create issues such as the need for a separate server, will you need increased bandwidth, training a second person in case someone goes on vacation, or gets sick.
- One of the big pluses is the ability for Moodle, or another tool, to develop community within the organization. Multiple studies have been done with regard to best practices. It is worth the time and effort to check into the topic of building online communities.
Open Source Moodle Review
- It is pretty good for delivering e-learning content and student management.
- Needs beter reporting tools and graphs.

Moodle Magic!
- While it certainly takes more time to develop an online training vs a face-to-face we can offer the same content over and over again and meet a larger audience. There's no way we could have offered these trainings face-to-face to the same size audience. Economically it's just not feasible. Moodle allows us to share multiple trainings on a variety of topics over extended periods of time in a cost effective way.
- The impact on early interventionists is still being evaluated, but we do know that early interventionist now have more ways to access professional development than in the past. The ability to customize the registration page has allowed us to track which agencies in Virginia are having their staff participate and we can see which topics are favored above others.
- Other LMS's were far too costly. Aside from the monthly hosting fees (less than $200 a year), and the time it took to do the initial install and setup, Moodle is free. Once it's setup the only elearning costs are related to the development and creation of each training and then the setup of training on Moodle. This allows us to devote more time and money to the development and creation of more courses vs. the management of the system.
- Minimal tech support for the users is required and most requests are limited to lost/userid passwords. The course designer is able to manage tech support needs for the users because so few requests are received.
- Moodle is a great open source investment (free) where your software development is driven by the specific needs of your program or institution.
- The time that would spent supporting technical aspects of the LMS can be dedicated instead to supporting faculty development and instructional design.
- Moodle does require personnel to support it and help it grow to support your faculty, staff and/or students. It is not the complete answer to your online institutional needs.
